Sliding bypass doors are a great choice for places where a swinging, hinged door might take up too much space. In this video series learn how to design sliding bypass doors, choose and use the hardware, and build strong doors with haunched tenon construction that will be beautiful, last for years, match your decor, and slide easily.
Part 5 concludes this series with the insertion of the door panels, glue-up, finishing, and installation of the rolling door hardware. The finish is shop-mixed shellac and General Finishes Arm-R-Seal.
While building these doors, Steve developed a spreadsheet that will help with the calculation of door height, door width, and rail length. The spreadsheet also includes supplementary instructions for the rolling door hardware. It can be downloaded for FREE by clicking on this link:

I love how you take your time to do the job right. Getting in a hurry almost always lets a little mistake into the project. Very nice work Steven. Thank you for sharing it with us.

The outcome looks really nice... :) Though, the interesting part is that you put the hardware in top AND bottom. Never saw this variant before here (Germany); usually it's installed in bottom only... As for the "missing instructions" for the hardware: I am pretty sure I saw some once.. Might come back to you if I can remember where...

Loved the sliding door series. Just a heads up, ArmRSeal is a wiping varnish, no an oil/varnish blend. My favorite finish also.

ArmrSeal is an oil and urethane blend. I have a can not 3 feet away and it says it right on the front in huge bold letters. ;-)

Arm R Seal is a film forming finish...its a diluted varnish. Don't believe everything you read on a can of finish.

If we can't believe what the manufacturer says, we're all in trouble.

to insert those wheels into the holes... try pressing it in with a clamp and counter the force needed with your workbench top or a board on the other side... you can get a lot of pressure with those things by hand and it might be safer for your fingers as well ;-)

I tried a regular bar clamp and it kept slipping off because the wheels are slightly rounded. But now that you raise the question, I am betting a wood screw clamp would do the trick. Thanks!

I for normal use a one hand quick clamp (ratcheting type) or a regular F-clamp with a piece of thin plywood for such work and for normal this works pretty good on me... I don't have wood screw clamps but they indeed might help you as well
