I'm as excited as a kid at Christmas over this news. I feel confident that they will bring back Slingerland in a way that honors it's past. They have the unique combination of manufacturing expertise and marketing prowess to make Slingerland drums relevant to a whole new generation. This made my day, maybe my year!

Very pleased! Been a Slingerland fan for many years, all my years! Now I have to work very hard to draw up a sales pitch to my wife to get a new Slingerland set in the future! My first and only set has been a 70's Slingerland 3-piece set "red sparkle". I have since added other slingerland pieces through out the years.

This is just outstanding...As a member of the Slingerland team in the early 1980's, I was fortunate to be able to assist in the growth of the "marching arts" area that Slingerland was so well known for (TDR snare drums and the Cut-A-Way tenors)… All the best to DW in giving this fine product the renewed exposure it so richly deserves !! I direct a local community band. We only use 70s-80s chrome slingerlands. The whole line. I'm a proud guy. Nobody else anywhere near us marches a 32" mahogany chrome slingerland, I can tell you that. Thanks for your input in some good stuff!

I'm the original owner of a beautiflul 3-piece Slingerland drum set made in 1962. I play a 1962 Ludwig Sudalloy snare drum with the set. The badge on the bass drum is a black Niles badge withoout a serial number. The two toms are badgeless. 8" x 12" small tom, 14" x 14" floor tom and a 14" x 20" bass drum. The wrap is silver sparkle. I had it recovered once because the original wrap yellowed. They still sound great using them in small grooups to big bands. Also, I am the original owner of a 2001 6-piece set of DW drums. (25th Anniversary of Modern Drummer Magazine, one year only lacquer finish).

As the owner of an old Slingerland kit... I can't wait to see what DW does for Slingerland. Since the original shell machines were sold some time ago... I can't wait to see DWs take on the original 3 and 5 ply Niles shell combos. I wonder if they'll be using the frequency based catalyst gluing process that was pioneered by Slingerland?

My first snare in 1986 was a used Slingerland c.o.b. My first good kit was a used late 60's Slingerland for my 14th birthday in 1990. I mostly played Slingerland until 2004 when I got tired of replacing hardware. I replaced them with dw drums, because they sounded closest to Slingerland - to my ears, and they held up to the gigging schedule I had back then. Today I still have the snare, and a set of early 70's chrome over wood drums I bought off my best friend in 1994. The 60's kit is with the lead singer from my first band in high school, and the other half of the chrome over wood is with the lead guitarist. We never split up the band - since 1992....

It’s wonderful to see a proud brand like Slingerland in the hands of people who really appreciate it’s heritage and history. It seems to me that this isn’t just a business decision for them, but also a labor of love. I wish them all the best and look forward to supporting Slingerland’s re-launch.

i d'ont know if anyone reads the comments but i have an idea for slingerland. do you want to restart this company with a bang? release a neil peart old faithfull signature snare drum. an exact copy of the original with the same snare beds. 3 ply shell maple, poplar, maple and solid maple rings and 8 lugs. just like the real deal. i believe this would sell better than any neil peart snares from dw. the slingerland artist neil peart model old faithfull. 5.5x14.

I had Slinger/Leedy's back in 1968-72. Liked Ludwigs better back then and play them now, though I do have three Slingerland snare drums. I have read The Slingerland Book by Rob Cook and now know why. Looks like DW now has rights to Gretsch and Slingerland. Rogers has been somewhat resurrected, but it appears that DW is on the way to trying to dominate USA-branded drums.

Time to vent a little bit.!! I can't believe all the negative comments. People be happy DW has acquired slingerland. They will do the brand justice. I'm sure they will price them comparable to what's in the market place. These people are not fools.!! They have built one of the greatest drum companies of all time.As far as DWs pricing on there kits go,when you get into exotic woods and these beautiful finishes yes it's expensive. There no more expensive than the other competitors. If you want something more affordable they offer there USA performance line. You want to talk apple's to apples,There performance line is right in line with Ludwig classic, and gretsch brooklyn. You want to compare there wrapped collectors series, there right in line with gretsch USA custom ,and Ludwig legacy wrapped kits.Maybe you pay a little bit more for there collectors series with lacquer finish but along with that comes your choice of about any type of wood make up one could want, maple, mahogany, birch, poplar, cherry.when you say DW is to expensive, do your homework, compare apple's to apples.
