Slow living and simple living can benefit us all - especially at this time of year. Winter months can be so busy, especially with the various holidays. We've all seen the news footage of the Black Friday sales - where materialism is king and it's all about getting there first and grabbing all you can. This often continues through to Christmas and then on to the January sales. Christmas can be hectic, manic even. Ask yourself this... do you enjoy the stress of Christmas? The pressures to buy in excess maybe? Or putting on a food spread fit for a king? Ask yourself, is this the Christmas I actually want?
There are other options. First, take a look at what elements you want to change. Don't just get caught up in the 'manic panic' - you'll blink and Christmas will be over and you'll wonder where the days went. When you slow down and focus on the small things, you realise how much you already have. You really don't need to waste money or time, especially time... it's the most important thing you have. So spend it wisely. Enjoy this time of year with your family and friends, focus on conversations, simple thoughtful gifts, and keep your menu small but delicious. Break out from what is 'expected' - that's not for you... you decide what is important and curate your own winter months.
I like to focus on family, little experiences with my girls, quality time with my husband, researching gifts and buying only after careful thought and when I know it's right. Planning simple homemade food from saved recipes we love and noticing things as if I was a child filled with curiosity. When you simplify your schedule, and your lifestyle, your distractions are reduced and you can spend time on the things you prefer and also see the beauty in everyday items and tasks. A simple life, is a slower life.
I hope you enjoy this vlog with me and my little family. It hopefully gives you a snapshot into our slow family living and English village life.
