Truly, Sly should by ALL accounts be mega-wealthy!!!! Regretfully though, THAT'S what rampant drug abuse & a lack of prudence can do to one's fame & fortune!!!! 😒

My Father toured with Sly in 1969 throughout US East Coast. He played back-up Trumpet and wrote arrangements for horns. Dad passed away in 2021. According to my Father, Sly still owed him money promised. While Sly was always out partying and living the high-life. Sly was talented but always irresponsible. While many in the band were addicted to substances and arrogant. Except for Larry Graham. Who was always a nice man. I met them all at Oakland Airport in 69'. When I was a little 8 year old kid. I can still remember all the Hippie stuff they wore: moccasins leather head-bands, tassels, etc.

I walked home with Sly once in Novato CA..He was so out of it in his White Rolls Royce that he was driving a few miles an hour. I told him I would drive him home but he said no. So I walked next to the open window and guided him the few miles all the way to his house at the top of the hill..I loved his music and felt I needed to make sure he got home safely. Got a job and worked around his house that summer as his thank you..

FWIW: I saw Sly Stone and the Family Stone at the Miami Jai Lai Fronton in December 1970 and it was one of the best concerts I ever attended. Later on Sly would earn a reputation of cutting his concerts short by simply walking out after a song or two. Sometimes he simply didn't show up.

Absolutely some of🎉 the greatest, nostalgic songs of our generation. We couldn't have shared our great gifts of music without the assistance of white-operated record labels (even though they routinely steal money from artits especially black artists) and those same white-owned record labels wouldn't be shit without our creativity. Truth. So we really need each other and the sooner we realize dis truth the better the world will become. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 "Romance" 7/4/2024
