Small saw arbor and - NEW machines

Ok, there are so many saw arbor videos here on KZfaq that mine probably brings nothing new to the pool. But as I need one for a project I‘m working on, why don‘t make some profit out of it ;)
The design I used is pretty much inspired by Stefan Gotteswinters saw arbor videos. For the blades I decided to use the small 50mm carbide saw blades from proxxon. They are affordable and from what I‘ve heard they seem to work well in most materials
Viewers who know the channel may wonder for which machine I‘m building this device. The answer is: I got a new one! An incredible kind viewer contacted me and donated me a small milling machine from proxxon. This thing makes milling so much easier than on the lathe and offers a lot of new options. Thanks a lot!!
And something more is new: I finally got a bandsaw! The German machine manufacturer Berg&Schmid made a good offer to me. The PBS130 bandsaw is really nice, runs smooth and quiet and has a solid casted baseplate instead of the thin sheetmetal ones used by other manufacturers. Really happy with this purchase. No more being afraid of cutting big steel bars by hand:)

Hi, I was really surprised too from the result. As I had to use a hardened pin as a clamping shaft and couldn't machine everything in one setup I assumed the runout to be really bad. But luckily it runs really super smooth :D Sometimes you have to have luck:)

That was my thought as well, a very useful metal band saw can be very inexpensive, versatile, accurate, and a real time saver.

1:06, My exact thought, I'm very happy you will not have to use the hand hacksaw for everything like you were doing. New machines are great to have when you can afford them.

Great video!! Congrats on the mill and saw! Awesome job on the saw arbor. I probably would have hand ground a little flat on the hardened pin and added a set (grub) screw to it. I'm not near as trusting of glue...lol Keep up the great work sir!!

Oh yes :) This tool scares me everytime I use it. I use it a lot and it's very helpful, but I'm always worried about breaking it and finding the parts in my head, hand or stomach... o:

Greetings from Russia.I attach such cutters to 6 m3 screws with a countersunk head, after drilling, I make a large chamfer from the bottom side.It is very convenient and nothing hinders from below

Thanks for your comment! That is a really good idea. I should make a second version with the mounting you mentioned. I already ran into the part with the lock nut. So it would be very helpful without the locknut on the underside :)

band saw was more require since you could do some of your milling by lathe , I'm looking forward for up coming projects to see what you do with these machines :D

Hi, thanks for your comment! :) Yes, the bandsaw is extremely helpful to have. But to have a small milling machine is also really cool. Milling on the lathe is often very complicated.

Hey thank you! I saw your video too, great! :) That is a good question. I think for aluminium the blades I use may work a little better as the teeth spacing is bigger and chips can't get stuck so easily. But in steel the finer HSS saw blades might be better. I haven't tried mine in steel yet but will proof that. I thougt the HSS blades are a bit more expensive so I tried the proxxon ones. And off course the arbor can take HSS blades as well as long as they have a 10mm bore:)

Here's a little free tip Save one if the decision/lines for the last pass and when on the last pass you go all the way to final length and clean up the end face

I notice that the saw has a little bit of run out because you can hear it cut and then not cut; as it progresses through the cut.

Do you mean the drill chuck I'm using? I got this machine from an user and the chuck was included. I have to look it up which brand it is.

@@WeCanDoThatBetter though there are uses for a cutter like the one you have created - like cutting a slot in a hole to hold a micrometer - an end mill is a bit designed to remove material exactly as you have done (at any angle) and it’s also a lot stronger and more rigid. An end mill is a bit that goes in your mill with a collet and can be used to plunge cut (like a drill bit) and can remove material horizontally.

Dankeschön!:) Die Bandsäge ist absolut kellertauglich. Die läuft extrem ruhig. Kannst sogar am Sonntag verwenden, würde ich sagen ;) Die hat ja eine stufenlose Drehzahlregelung, im oberen Geschwindigkeitsbereich ist sie natürlich etwas lauter. Aber gerade im unteren Bereich läuft der Motor extrem leise.

Hi, I put a little nut under the arbor in the vise on which the first milled side sat on. Thats not super accurate but for a key slot its good enough.

I used 42crmo4 steel for this. It is decently tough and well suited for the job.

Nice new machines, really curious which projects are coming up next. If I can ask a question: what blueing fluid do you use? I was searching for it for my own project (check my video if you like), but I could find it anywhere.

Hi, thank you very much for your comment! I'm using a set from Ballistol for cold bluing. It is a little case with degreaser, cold bluing liquid and spray oil. For the small parts I usually make, it works quite good.

Guten tag........now is that a greeting or equivalent of 'goodbye' ? - anyway, I stopped at 0:15 humoured by the arrows showing direction of rotation - like as if we couldn't figure that out...... 2, possibly 3 years ago, I bought an electric chainsaw. It does the job. I decided to see what people were saying about it in reviews. Some were good, some were bad. The bad ones were pretty scathing - saying it cuts poorly, or needs a lot of pressure on the blade to get it to cut. I'm sure t's all self-explanatory - when I say the blade came in an oily sealed bag - for the user to fit.

No the proper way to fasten it, is to use a hardened punch and a hammer :)

Hi, you mean on the milling machine? It was just there to prevent the spindle locking pin from falling out during transport :) Nothing special underneath;)

Off course I know him. Unfortunately the machinig stuff gets much lesser in the past. I have some modifications in mind for the milling machine, but hopefully that's not an abuse ;)

@@WeCanDoThatBetter I mean I can see some similarities in your videos as I do with Tony's videos. Mods are fine; I meant "abuse" as in making it do things that it wasnt designed to do........ I've seen you do a bit of heavy stuff on the lathe, and makin it spin things that are unbalanced and have too much stick out. The rule of thumb for stick out is about 3 times the diameter at the most. One of your videos I seen the lathe "rocking"..... bolting it down and leveling it will make it much easier to use and itll also make it more accurate. I use a lathe like this to make saw bolts/nuts from brass...... it can cut steel, but it much prefers softer materials. Hope you enjoy your machining lad 😁

The lathe holds the workpiece in the wrong position. Too far. cause very severe shaking

The stick is too long. too thin. lead you to the milling machine. Vibrates all the time Machining vibrations can affect tool life.
