I'm a rookie piper, and I'm eager to try all the different blends. I started with aromatic blends, found my "go to" in that genre. Now I have shifted into mild English blends which I really enjoy! Had my first bowl of Early Morning Pipe today and it was lovely. Can't wait to sample some of these on this list!

Orlik Golden Sliced was the tobacco that got me hooked on pipes. I remember mindlessly puffing away on OGS and out of nowhere I got this pleasant citrus note that made my eyebrows shoot up. It was love at first pipe!

Also, I am delighted that I have come across another pipe smoker who perceives a tea note in Virginia-based blends. Hey, Kevin. The squirrels look like they are starting to fatten up for the winter and you are well-layered to withstand the chill. Interesting top 12 and the more so seeing the codger blends that showed up on the list. The only one of the most recognizable blends that didn't show up was Velvet. The list spans quite a wide spectrum of flavor profiles. Lane 1-Q showing up at the top of the list wasn't surprising. It is the closest to the OTC blend that a lot of new pipe smokers discover. Thanks for sharing the list! All the best that you and your family are doing well and enjoying this holiday time of year. Be well, stay safe, and keep the awesome meter pegged - peace

@@hobbitonpiper Thanks Kevin! I appreciate your reviews, I really like the plain nutty burley flavor of sir Walter Raleigh. It's hard to tell until I try them so I'll just have to give CH a try. I've been surprised before. It's tough to get my hands on CH box/pouch and I only ever see it available online in a tin and i haven't wanted to commit to that much before trying it haha. One day

This sounds pretty much like what I’d guess. I have some amount of 8 out of the 12. The only reason I don’t have (just shy of) a tin of Haunted Bookshop is that I was too eager to let someone else suffer through it after I tried and hated a couple bowls. I still don’t care for it, but I’d definitely keep it today. What did I know? I was youngish and foolish. 😂

But I also have at least one tin to 8 oz of everything on this video's list lol. I guess I cellar wide but not too deep. I'm also realizing I have a tobacco acquisition problem lol. Happily making labels and starting to cellar the Country Squire blends that your videos have introduced me to - thank you! But query on compressing the jar contents: is it OK to press down to make, say, 4 or even 8 oz. of Rivendell fit into a 16 oz. widemouth Bell jar? Just poured in, 2 oz. will mostly fill a 16 oz. jar.

It will change the fluffy consistency of the ribbon cut to press it, but I do it. It would take way too many jars otherwise :) I don’t usually go more than 6oz in a 16oz jar tho personally

Love your list, but CH is probably my least favorite of the codger blends. I think it’s just too mild for me in taste. SWR, PA, H&H, LLRR, and Velvet, I enjoy those a lot when I’m looking for a simple smoke, but for some reason CH never clicked for me. I don’t hate it, but I would smoke the others before I smoked CH. End of the day, everyone has their opinions and I respect yours for sure. SPC PP is also one of my favorites. Just got a tin of Capstan Original Flake, really looking forward to it and compare it with OGS (which I love). Edit: okay just realized this was not your list.

Hey, Kevin. If you've done a video on this topic, I will dig deeper and try to find it, but I would be interested to hear your thoughts on cellaring, longer term (years), aromatics. I keep hearing that "they don't benefit like other tobaccos", and I get that, but do they degrade, or "spoil", for lack of a better term, because of the casings? I just tried Cult Blood Red Moon, for the first time, and it is absolutely fantastic. So, I want to cellar it, but don't want it to go bad, if I keep it for years either. Any insight you could possibly share on that topic, cellaring aromatics? Thank you kind Sir. I appreciate your time, and all you share.
@hobbitonpiper
@hobbitonpiper 3 ай бұрын
Great question. The problem with cellaring aromatics is that the toppings often do not age well, and in fact they can become rancid over time. Toppings are often better fresh, and since aromatics are so dependent on them, smoking a fresh aromatic tin is often preferred. With that said, some aromatic blends seem to age just fine. I do prefer fresh CBRM, but I’ve also had some that was 5 years old and it still tasted fine. So that’s one you might get lucky with. Not sure. Another factor is availability, so if there’s any concern at all of it not being available anymore and how sad you would feel about that, I wouldn’t hesitate to cellar it.
@johndunbar2393
@johndunbar2393 3 ай бұрын
@@hobbitonpiper Fantastic response, and FAST. Thank you! I watched one of your other videos (Several actually. Which is how I ended up on this one.) and you made that same comment about how sad you'd be if said blend wasn't available any more. CBRM, Old Toby, and Rivendell (I forget their new names off the top of my head) are definitely 3 I would be sad if they weren't around. Which is why I got to pondering the issue. I've only been smoking pipes for about 8 months, but it's had such a profound impact on how I approach life now, that I want to make sure I'm not without certain blends, for as long as possible, and want to stack some deep. I won't keep you any longer. I appreciate your time, and insight. You're the best Piper on KZfaq. Take care, good Sir. Have a great week!

Great question! Aged tobaccos can sometimes be found at local shops for a higher price but I’ve only rarely seen this. Usually you will need to acquire it from someone else’s personal cellar that is willing to sell or trade. Email me anytime to discuss, although I have very few aged tobaccos currently
