Hi Alan my mate had a camshaft which I think was from a Peugeot that he couldn't get to run after a camchain failure when he asked about it turned out the loabs could all move independently which he was able to verify by putting it next to another he thought it was a solid forged component but apparently not. Like you say if you don't know you would never work it out

I thought timing chains were the best thing ever compared to cambelts !.I've actually seen more timing chain failures lately than belts and modern belts have a longer service service life than chains !

Hi Alan I have a ford smax tdci mk1 2ltr with a low voltage obd code p02e2 and alot of oil in my air intake and its got a growling noise coming from my air intake induction box at back of engine that connects to the turbo any ideas what this could be mate thnks micky b
@alan4x Жыл бұрын
i would get your turbo impeller checked out as sounds like the bearing is worn and causing excessive movement in your turbo impeller which can put excess oil into your intake pipe and worse cause the engine to run on its own oil which may destroy the engine
@guffermeister2 жыл бұрын
This seems to be a recurring issue at around 250K miles. Considering its less ball ache to prevent the problem at either the 200K timing belt change or separately at 250K for you to do the chain and tensioner change?
@alan4x2 жыл бұрын
it is a lot of work so we only change them when needs to be done, as there are 100 taxis
@guffermeister2 жыл бұрын
Its more work but as it can have much more severe cosequences with the shells going through lack of oil. Mind you they should be good for another 250k miles on the back of it...

Really good videos. These engines are in my opinion, needlessly complicated. In the past, cams were driven by duplex chains and lasted very well. Cost cutting meant that simplex chains were used and were not as good. I have never been a fan of cam belts. A cheapening of engine design. The best set up was gear driven cams as used by Volvo and early Ford 1.6 Diesels.I have owned and driven taxis since the 90's and have repaired Taxis since the 70's and some drivers will drive them until they are seized up. The majority of your cars are private hire, so it grates on me that you describe then as Taxis, which they are not. Only Hackney Carriages are Taxis.
@jonnotshared75902 жыл бұрын
The Hackney carriage is very much a London thing. Out in the shires (Steve's taxi's are based in rural Cambridgeshire) taxi's tend very much to be private hire. In the larger city's the London system of "hail and ride" works well but you will find 90% of these drivers will also be on a company circuit for private hire work
