When my step dad got arrested for domestic abuse, my school assigned me a counselor to make sure I was okay. I expressed my self hatred to my counselor and told her I was constantly terrified that everyone hated me and I deserved it, and she literally said "well if people don't like you then you must be doing something to cause that". That was super helpful.
@fluffymonster396
@fluffymonster396 Жыл бұрын
Feeling everyone hates you isn't the same as everyone hating you and even in the rare cases where you're hated by a lot of people, there will always be people who do. Sounds like counseling wasn't what she went to school for and she had no idea what she was doing.

I once went to a guidance counselor in 7th grade about how I felt like an outcast at the school because I didn't have many friends. We had also just moved to the area that summer. And I put in that I had social anxiety to my counselor. She told me that doesn't sound very truthful because she saw me walk off the bus everyday with this group of people and that she's seen me talking to people at the library. In reality the group I walked with off the bus was my sister and brother, obviously I'd be hanging out with them. The people I talked to in the library was the librarian's assistant and a couple girls that were picking on me.

This happened to me too in high school. A guidance counselor called my parents about my suicidal thoughts, immediately told me who tipped her off (even though she told that person it would remain anonymous), blamed me for my thoughts of dying, and told my parents it's their fault I am "acting out for attention". My parents were pissed they were called out of work, asked her what she's going to do to help me, and that it's her job to talk to me as a counselor. She said she's not going to do anything and it's my job to find help. Me. A 15 year old at the time. She was forced to see me weekly after that, she didn't allow me to eat lunch when she only saw me during lunch, and she was so demeaning to me the entire time. I just stopped going to her meetings. Edited because I hit submit by accident

The one with “grace bullying” this happened to me. The school wouldn’t do anything. I got jumped by multiple kids. I had bruises I even had broken fingers. The school did nothing. My parents did nothing. I told the school what was going on they didn’t care. So I learned how to throw a fist and I learned to fight. I kicked the shit out if each and everyone of them even some boys until they left me alone. I hate to promote violence as it is wrong. But when no adult will help you. You do what you need to do.

Man, the Kylie thing makes me so happy for my school. I'm a trans male, and my school is basically an LGBT safe space. When I came out, my guidance counselor added my preferred name to my student file, and even changed my school email even though I told her she didn't need to go that far. All of my teachers haven't even batted an eye when I told them my preferred name, and I've even had a few substitutes come up to me during class and quietly apologize when using my birth name while taking attendance I really hope that everywhere can be like that one day! And if I live to see it happen, I'll be the happiest guy alive :)

As a future school counselor, this compilation makes me so angry because they are true when it comes to "old school" guidance counselors. Which, we are trying to step away from because there is more to counseling than just academics. "Guidance Counselor" is now considered a no-go kind of word and we really try to emphasize on School Counselor. This compilation is one of the reasons why I wanted to come into school counseling, to get rid of counselors who act that way and include more resources, advocate for students, and actually listen to the students and their needs first before anything else.

My home town school (HTS) counselors vs out of state school (OOSS) I went to for a year: My HTS put the counselors in the cafe to control the cafe lines and while I had a panic attack and was self harming they ignored me. I had all but one F in my classes and only passed my acting class. In my OOSS they found notes on a computer which I did often in my before school they found out I felt really suicidal, talked to me, took care of me, and took me to a psychiatric ward where they would take more care of me, then talk to me seeing if I was any better. I passed my classes.

This is so accurate. Especially the telling all the students your business. My middle school guidance counselor was absolutely terrible. She never cared when a student was bullied, she was always upset, and would never actually listen to the students. My highschool guidance counselor, she is a different story. My friend has bad anxiety and the counselor has helped her so much. She is what we need. It would be great though if my advisor would stop trying to fill in that role.

9:17 another elementary school story that I die to this day of how ridiculous it was is me and my friends are in the exact same situation when you’re caught jeweling we were not we’re elementary students at that time. And so basically my friends and I were extremely bored and so we took sticky notes and we folded them like juuls and I do not get caught personally which are very thankful for and I’m glad neither of my friends are snitches only one of them was a really close and actually trusted. But I have this really crappy reading teacher that I like is as bad as probably the guidance counselor’s you make the skits based off of had a hatred towards all three of us. But for Jay our reading teacher had an extreme heat for him. So when she was talking to him because she legit had and a juul. So he snitch on me because he just did and she said something along the lines of no no you do not pull people you were sitting next to you into your problems. And so my other friend I’ll call K. Was also caught folding up sticky notes and so she was sent to the principals office same with Jay and I sat there in fear the entire rest of the day the next day I get in trouble for lying about a broken water bottle to read my other comments for the story mind you the water bottle incident happened a month prior those little biatches ( also the story in the video is very different but nonetheless they thought we were drooling which we weren’t because we were in freaking elementary school)

I’m surprised how good my schools GC is. Our advisory classes have a private google form so students can schedule appointmens, the offices have Candy and fidget toys to relieve stress. One of the counselors even hosts pride club and we talk about our struggles with homophobia in our families and at school, we’re planning a display to put in the display case the school uses to show off students art, and everybody brings snacks for the end. Anyway, most of students go to them and it’s ACTUALLY a safe space where we can talk about our problems and they help us plan out ways to help, or just let us vent. I feel so bad for people who have guidance counselors like the one snerixx plays.stay safe everybody! ❤️

A note to teachers aaa bout “distracting clothing” If a student wears a shirt that has something like a half shoulder, etc, and it’s distracting the kids, ask the kids who have been distracted by something as simple as a classmate’s shoulder. Blaming the clothing isn’t always the best thing unless the outfit is actually problematic.

I did but I think he can take one kick while I was now self conscious because that was not the first time someone had said something like that in the end he got out scot free and I got a call home because “once you retaliate there is nothing they can do” that was in 5th grade and I still have body issues so thanks vice principal you were so helpful

5:52 I hate the freaking people that will be Bullies around people their age and people younger. And then they’ll go up to adults in a be the freaking angel princess that every adult wants. In elementary school a girl pushed me what I was talking to one of my friends my water bottle flew out of my hand fell on the ground split into three pieces the girl proceeded to jump on it. I went to go tell the teacher who is outside. And I said blanks name pushed me and my water bottle broke. The teacher then proceeded to say maybe she just pushed you quote for quote. The worst part about it her little minion friends picked up the trash put it in a bag and then after school that day while I was playing basketball through my water bottle at me.

The bullying one happened to me. Most of the people in my class would make fun of me, throw stuff at me, take photos of me against my will and everyone told me ,,they're good people'' well they were good until they weren't. In the end, when I finally spoke up, I was told I'm overreacting, that they're good people and didn't do anything wrong, and I was the one that got in trouble. The teachers and counselor tried keeping the class ,,unified'' with everyone being friends but it didn't work out. Because they were blind to all that happened.

It was my understanding that high school guidance counselors are more like there to tell which classes you need to take to help prep for college, ed plans, and scholarships. Like more similar to a college academic counselor but they try and help you pass your classes. For instance, if the problem was someone's mental health, then they'd refer them to an actual mental health professional. However, I've noticed this alot. One time my high school guidance counselor tried to play "family therapist" for one of my friends and ended up making her home life worse.

My counselor pulled me out of class to talk to me about your grades once. I got a 45% on a math test. ONE TEST! I was basically told that I wasn’t trying hard enough and if I worked harder I would do better.(“if you just applied yourself more you would do better” and “if you just studied a bit more I’m sure you would do better”) This went on for 15 minutes. I was pissed off that day. My mother wasn’t very happy and I wasn’t allowed to be alone with the counselor anymore. Win win situation for me. I didn’t ever to have to sit through a boring one on one talk with her again and no one ever commented on my grades again.
