As soon as I saw the one of the girl breaking her nail (what people think happens vs. reality) I had a flashback to when I was a senior in high school on the color guard team. Our captain decided it was the best idea ever to get 1.5-inch-long acrylic nails. This girl had to throw and spin multiple flags (just like the rest of us) and a rifle (a solid piece of wood cut into the shape of a rifle, but not loadable in any way). This thing was heavy too, at least a few pounds. One time during practice, she tossed her rifle, and it came down hard on one of her nails. Keep in mind this thing went up in the air at least 10 feet. She actually acted like she had no idea why it hurt as much as it did. That was why the coaches told us to not have long nails.
