Who would hsve thought in the 80s when davis was dominating snooker with that ice cold persona that he would end up being one of the most loved and respected sportsmen britain has ever produced. A true legend...

Even though he was, to begin with, the most arrogant git in the game, you can't help but admire his genius as a player and latterly as a pundit, a true and sincere ambassador of the game. God bless him

If I watch the old vids I never see arrogance in him. He was a little shy and vastly superior in his chosen profession, these traits in combination often get misinterpreted as arrogance.

People seem to appreciate winners when they are not winning no more or retired. Its sad really.... Lewis Hamilton in F1 will probly get that when he has retired.

This is the respect for parents that seem to be missing today, his love shines through for his parents. brilliant guy and so down to earth should have got a knighthood.

No, and if they would present it to him, he should refuse it as it is presented by people who never contributed anything to society. He is so much above that. He is too good for a knighthood...We are citizens, not subjects...

I used to hate Steve in the 80's, it was always Higgy and Jimmy and a few others but now aged 50+ I now class him as the ultimate pro and a complete and utter legend and should in my opinion be knighted for services to the game. Turns out that he is cool, friendly and an emotianal guy. I remember seeing his dad at many tournaments in the 80's and never thought how much he meant to him. A TRUE legend, no more words needed. Oh, and my bird used to fancy him and had a signed photo on her dresser.......grrrrr x

Hey may not be the greatest player to ever pick up a snooker cue (I'd put him third behind O'Sullivan and Hendry respectively), but he is probably the most important. Without him, we probably wouldn't have had an O'Sullivan or a Hendry. He changed the entire perception of the game and turned it into a passion for others. A true gentleman and a true legend.
