Donnie, as always, Thank you for sharing your mountains-We are in Central FL so what youve shown here is all the snow we're going to get. Moving to mountains in near future, hoping for small community & slower living. You provide an amazing array of all things Appalachian and are a great steward of the area, from the history and lifestyle of the people there, to showcasing all the aspects of environment there. You are a wonderful teacher and beneficial to so many by simply caring to share and putting in the effort you do to bring us into your world for a few minutes. You and others blessed beyond measure to have been brought up in the times you were, in area and culture you were. I know you count yourself fortunate. Enjoy your day

Thank you for this, brother Donnie! My favorite way to look at snow is in pictures and video. 😉 Being retired means I don't have to fight that stuff anymore, bless Abba! I remember a snow storm in the late 1970's when I couldn't take the chains off my old 1966 Rambler for a week! I managed a grocery store back then, and I had to pick up my employees and take them back home to keep the store open and running. So glad I don't have to worry about such as that anymore! May G-d bless you and yours with a great week, brother! Please pray for the peace of Jerusalem!

Thank you Donnie for these trips down memory lane. I lived in Middlesborough until I was nine years old. Then we moved to north Georgia then over to South Carolina. I joined the US Air Force to "see the world" and wound up in Cheyenne, WY; but, I made the best of it. I do have a pragmatic outlook on life. I wouldn't exchange my memories for anything. Still, I remember my life living in Kentucky. Most of my relatives moved to Detroit to work in the car factories; but, my mother was widowed in her mid-twenties and she chose to move us to Georgia.

BTW, I nearly wet my britches once waiting on who would win. It was cold like today,I was about 4 years old. I had to go potty and my Great Grandmother was visiting. I was bundling up to go to the outhouse when Grandma said it was too cold “for this baby”to go out and told me to use the chamber pot. My mother went into orbit!!!! Yelling that I would go out,Grandma saying nope. I should have known mother would win…. Lol

Your strange photo of lightning in a snow storm triggered my memory. Late January or early February of 1963 we had a big snow. It was thundering and lightning as the snow came down. I was about 10 years old and lived in South Harriman, Tennessee. We lived in a big old store building that had giant plate glass windows and it was on a main road. Lightning struck a transformer across from our place and a line fell across a car with a woman and little girl in it. They were ok and the utility company and fire department rescued them. We were scared for them and prayed they would be ok. God answered those prayers. That's just one scary part of beautiful snow. The snow was waist deep on my oldest brother. He was nearly 6 feet tall, and trying to get some wood and coal dug out of the snow the morning after. Ice cycles hanging from porch roof were as big as your wrist and as long as from your wrist to your elbow. We don't see snow like that much here now, in the valley. We are blessed if we see a flurry or two now a days. Thank you for always sharing the beauty of your mountain home. Hope you two are much better now, I will keep you in my prayers.

This was such a nice video! I love seeing the snowy woods. One of my favorite things to do as a kid was to wander around through the woods in our neighborhood and just find a nice stump to sit on and listen to the quiet. I still love to do that when I can. The rest of the video reminded me of the years I had to commute 50 miles one way from our farm here in ND into town where I worked. White outs are common, and I can't count the times I white-knuckled my way into town and back in those conditions. Up here the roads are flat and it's so easy to be blinded by all the white, so you don't see where the road ends on either side. It just all blends together. I'm so glad I live in town now and don't have to do that anymore. We still have plenty of ice and snow to deal with, but I pray for anyone having to drive on the highways in that kind of mess. It is dangerous. Thanks for sharing!

I remember that storm in '93. I was a teenager and we lived in another area of Sevier County, mountain area behind where Dollywood is by Middle Creek. That storm came in as ice first and then it dumped snow. We could not even get up the windy road to the house that was on top of a holler. My Dad was stuck in Nashville, so my Mom and I took the dogs with us everywhere when we could get out to town. We had to park at the base of the road going up and then down into the hollar, strap everything up to the dogs, and have them drag the items in a sled all the way up to the house. It was a good mile up and down. There was no electricity, so had to depend on the wood fireplace, and Mom almost lost it when we crossed some big tracks in the snow. I remember late at night, the trees would start exploding from the sap freezing, and it echoed, bouncing around the mountains and hollar like cannon balls and explosions. I do not even know how Dad even made it back. Great memories, and thank you for this. God bless.

March 93’. What an amazing blizzard to hit TN. We were stuck in the house for 4 days! The good old wood stove saved us. We used it for heat and mom cooked on it while the power was out.

Your timing is great for this video, Donnie. Starting tonight they are calling for a mix of sleet, snow and freezing rain. I think this is going to start late tonight and go through most of the day tomorrow. Over the next 2 weeks the weather is predicted to be off and on snow, sleet and all of that type of winter weather. But it's January...it's to be expected. I absolutely love snow. I get as excited at the first flakes as I did when I was young. It is so beautiful. I could do without ice of any form, but you have to take the good with the bad.

Hello my friend, this sure was a beautiful video. I love the winter and the snow. I remember the blizzard of 78, we was out of power for over 2 weeks. The state paid our neighbor to clear the highways with his D6 cat, the snow plows couldn't even move. Then after he got the roads opened up to where the plows could manage them, he pulled the power trucks through the country roads so they could restore the power. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful videos with us. Sending you many blessings for you and your family. 🙏🤗❤️

Good morning Mr.Laws when I was in my early teens we had a lightning and thunder snow storm. When it finally stopped snowing we measured the snow at 3 1/2 feet. Mom put on a pot of beans and fried some potatoes with onion and bacon. She kept that potbellied stove going all night , and we stayed warm.

That is a strange picture, but i think it's real. Thank you for this beautiful vision of your winter wonderland, i know it comes with a price. I'm not sure people today are tough enough to handle the way things used to be. I suppose this is why my people eventually moved on down to the valleys, nearer the cities. I do know they wanted to be closer to the schools, for the children to get a good education. Even today, nobody seems to appreciate those miners for the all they did and how it affected their lives. Same thing for truckers, they keep this country supplied with what they need...if they stop, the country stops. Lord bless and keep you, my friend. I'm happy you have that warm fire to sit by while you tell us these wonderful stories....they mean so much to me. I've got to catch up on the recent ones, thank you for all of them. I hope your New Year will be blessed.❤🙏

I definitely remember the 93 blizzard Donnie. Me and three other coworkers were stranded in a Compressor Station at work and couldn't get home. I had a 4x4 Chevy truck an snow was clear up to my mirrors. We were there for three days and nights till the Field people for the Gas Company sent out a Bulldozer and Operator to plow us out. As soon as the road was opened our Supervisors delivered is all a good healthy breakfast. And it was so good. But we got along good, had 5 big Cooper Bessemer Compressors and engines pumping gas that kept us plenty warm. God was so good to us those 3 days.

It makes everything it touches beautiful even an old outhouse. I remember my paw paw talking about thunder snow and I was blessed to witness one. ❤ Snow is so peaceful and calming to my soul. It is a way of the Father telling me to stop and be still. There's nothing better than the feeling of coming in from the cold to a warm fireplace in the house. It's so cozy and relaxing. Thank you for this video, it's definitely one of your best and most beautiful 😍 🥰🥰💕💕

When it does snow, it seems like there's a special kind of hush in the woods. Also, if it's a wet sort of snow, it'll pile up on tree limbs. Walking in the woods, especially under pine boughs, there's always the risk that you'll get snow dumped on your head and down your collar.

I love to see the snow falling. I lived in Wasatch mts. in Utah - Heber Valley. You could go up a road past a reservoir and road is closed - and you see 15 / 20 ft of snow - and they just stop plowing there for the winter. Years ago I heated my home with wood. For nearly 35 years. Cut it. Split it. Stacked it. And I enjoyed it and I miss it big time. Nothing like wood heat. Beautiful pictures and loved the story of snow and how it affects our lives. God Bless.
