Truckers have a special part in my heart. I was travelling with my 18 month son heading to Chicago. Stopped at a rest area outside of Ludington MI to change diapers (of my son, not me lol). Upon exiting the restroom, 2 gentlemen politely asked me where I was headed - he and another trucker were concerned about me and my son driving alone. They asked if they could follow me to make sure I made it safely to my destination. They did - one in front and one behind. At the last rest stop before my exit, I asked them where they were headed. One was heading south, and the other was going west - I asked them wouldn't this make them fall behind on delivering their cargo - they said that the safety of me and my child was way more important than any cargo. Wherever they are now, and all of the other truckers out there, God bless you and keep you safe.💖💖💖🙏

Oh Mr. Donnie you surely did touch my heart with this video. My daddy came home from the Korean War and started driving a truck. He loved it. Made a good living for his family too. He had a million safe mile plaque that he was so proud of. He had so many stories to tell. He talked about carrying loads of “swinging meat” through those mountains and how scary it was. God Bless you sir.

There's been many a trucker killed losing their breaks on 25/70 and 19/23 going into Tennessee from North Carolina. I've seen far too many off the side of the mountain or crashed into the rock cliffs. It takes an experienced trucker to travel these mountain back roads with a rig. Far too many young drivers relying on GPS instead of "local " people advising them that it can't be done. Thanks once again Donnie for a wonderful story.

Great tribute Donnie . here in the U K my dad drove trucks when I was a boy in the 1950s. before that in world war 2 he had driven trucks carrying supplies in places like Palestine I remember him saying . I worked in our coal industry when we had one as a fitter and then moved onto repairing trucks in 1970 for Shell Mex and B P .In 1990 I transferred onto the driving staff always driving artics carrying petroleum , In 2005 I took early retirement after 35 years service .I am now 74 . truckers are the salt of the earth but are not always appreciated. Miners also I hold in high regard as well as mechanics or fitters .

When I was 19/20 a neighbor who was a Truck driver told me I get my license he'd hire me to run one of his trucks, I had things I wanted to do so I told him. I joined the Army and became a truck driver ( 64C Motor transport operator ) which really was a lot more than just trucks, I was picked by the battalion commander to get a TMP bus and take the officers to their weekend conferences such as improving morale of the enlisted, helping your men deal with grief etc. I was chosen because I also did the job of fuel and oil testing, inventory and delivery planning for the battalion. I also as the Major put it " couldn't read a speedometer" as when we were heading back we were always doing about 55 mph and he shut down a captain complaining I was doing 65 mph, the major asked and I said about 55 sir and the rest of the officers laughed and enjoyed the little bit shorter trip. When I finished my time in service and after being in a few military truck convoys and a dozen 1 or 2 truck multi-state runs for the battalion I made up my mind I wouldn't like to drive truck on the highway, if I had as much trouble as I did ( in 1984 and 85 ) in a fully marked military semitruck but as a civilian in a regular semi I didn't have the patience needed to not just run some of the fools over the would jump in front of me and slam on the brakes to make an exit. I came home in 1987, and told the ex-neighbor I would drive for him but I sure had a new found respect for the patience a modern day trucker possess. Great story Donny, people will cut off a truck, not let them in traffic then get to a store and complain their out of whatever their looking for.

Donnie: in my very younger days, I worked for Sears Roebuck. I rode shotgun for a regional shipper line hauling all sorts of cargo in the Desert SW. I never drove "officially" but occasionally the guy who drove was tired...or well he had "issues". I didn't have the correct license but we got there. then I had to work unloading the truck. That work was hard but I was young and recently married. Learned a lot... PS remember an old TV show (early 70s) called Movin' On? starred Claude Akins. Reminded me of that...

I remember the logging trucks. Once when the Clinch river flooded many of us were stranded for weeks. The logging company came in and cut a new road. Not just so they could work but so people could get in and out of the holler. Another logging truck had a heavy load and couldn’t slow down. It missed the bend of the road and turned what was at one time my Mamaw’s house in to toothpicks. She had moved before that and thankfully nobody lived there when it happened. It’s a miracle nobody got hurt.

He has a bad back, and has developed leukemia because of the things that he's had to load and haul from military bases, etc. Truck driving is an under appreciated job that is absolutely vital to the U.S. economy, and I'm glad that you are recognizing them here. Hard working, getting very little sleep, having very few comforts, facing stressful deadlines, and constantly being separated from their families, truck drivers do their best to make sure we all get to experience our daily lives. Be kind to truck drivers, because whether you know it or not, folks, they're being kind to you with every haul they make.

Thank you Donnie. Spent many hours on the road. Up and down 81 and across 40 many many times. I appreciate the tribute. We get yelled at and sign language from everyone on the road. Cut off by impatient drivers that don't understand we can't make 80 thousand pounds get up and go or stop on a dime. Thanks again

In my early years one of the first jobs I ever had was driving a truck . Most likely the shirt on your back , the shoes on your feet , and practically everything else you see on store shelves , and including our fuel is delivered by truckers . Our country would be completely paralyzed if it wasn't for our truckers . 🤔I can never remember seeing the railroad delivering to Walmart , the grocery stores , or any other store for that matter , but I do see a lot of trucks unloading at these places . Another great video Donnie , thank you .

Thank you for honoring us truckers I've been doing it since 1992. Started out hauling furniture from the factories here in southwest Virginia and western North Carolina. If you could haul furniture to the countless small towns across the country you could drive anywhere. I've also hauled many a load of logs to when I would get tired of running long haul. Plus haul many a load of lumber from the mills. Again thank you for honoring us truckers.

It does not matter where I am us hillbilly’s know one another an we all talk about home. Thank you for talking about us. Here’s a quote you may not heard. ‘’ anybody can be a driver but only a few can be called a hand “. It’s been a honor to be called a hand an to be part of the forgotten few that keeps things moving.

I live in Appalachian mountains in Virginia. Logged just about my entire life. Hard to believe but the ole pioneers have touched every inch of these woods at one point or another. No woods are virgin they've all been mowed down at some point. The lands with the big old oaks and hickorys on them just haven't been touched as recent as land with pines in rows and poplar tree forest.

Wonderful tribute, Donnie! I don't get mad when they are pulling a big hill and I am behind them because they are a LOT faster than they used to be! The coal truck at 4:22 and the Southeastern truck at 4:45 might be White models with the Detroit "6-71" Diesel engine, but my memory is really faded after all these years. I just love the old Detroit 6-71.

God bless all truckers.they work very hard doing their hauling.rigs are expensive too. My father drove a gas truck in ww2, to where the tanks were in battle and fueled up the planes on dangerous runways..he repaired the armys' jeeps when he wasn't driving the gas truck.. My mother said it was very dangerous and he could be blown up at any time but he came home safe. He always drove stick shifts and taught me to drive,i was very lucky.i learned alot from him. Thank you sir, for a beautiful video,as always.god bless.

Thankful for you Donnie, you make my days in this truck better listening to your amazing stories. Been out here for 16 years now and have somewhere around 2 million miles. Harder and harder to make a living out here on the road though. I appreciate you and other KZfaq content creator's giving me good content to listen to and I greatly appreciate your recognition for what us truckers do. So many people don't know what it's like to have to put clothes on to walk into the truckstop at 2 am in a ft of snow in the cold to go to the bathroom or apologizing because you couldn't make it home for your family vacation or to pick between being home for one birthday and not the other because there so close together. But anyways thank you again
