Snow Plowing 14 inches that dump on us overnight, a modest task for most Compact to Mid-Sized Tractors, but the Massey Ferguson 1740M 40hp coupled with a 7ft Snow Pusher Blade doesn't even show a sign of a hiccup, let alone maybe even some tire slippage? Naaaa, none to be found, nor is it even much of a junior varsity challenge for this Tractor/Snowplow setup.
See how smooth this 1740M Cab Tractor is coupled with a 7ft Snow Pusher that just plows deep snow with ease and just simply eats up the deep snow load that's in front of it. We're calling Mother Nature for a much bigger challenge next time! ;) Hope you guys all like and subscribe, we'll do some more snow challenge videos as they warrant. Till next time peeps... and yes, no mercy, no prisoners.... let it snow!... we'll plow it out of the way in style! :)
OUT!
-Common Deep Snow Plowing Question ?
Do I need ballast or additional rear end weight to plow the heavy snow falls?
-Answer!
Your exact setup with your tractor and plow or pusher will dictate this. A good rule of thumb is to load up as much as you can, if you don't lose any traction maybe bail out (off-load) some of the weight?. A 3pt weight bucket works well for this. As you can see in this video, I use the backhoe as my counter weight. The tires are also filled with rim-guard (beet juice). Deep snow and especially the wet heavy stuff may shed new light on your setup and quickly, at that and it may not happen this year or even next... but sooner or later you may require or wanting more traction and the 3pt load boxes are great for that.
Feel free to post up your Comments on the Video, and also on what subject/place you'd possibly like to see next!... and hey!, we always love to hear from you!
Thanks for watching guys! Please remember Subscribe, Like & Share! :)

Nice video thanks! I'm in the process of purchasing a 60 hp massey. Im in upstate ny so that means lots of snow.. I was thinking of a 7ft snow pusher, but it seems your tractor handles that size with no problems. Is that the case? Maybe an 8 ftr will work better on a 60 horse tractor? Thanks for the video!

@Adam X Thank you fellow upstate NYer! ...Wowza a 60hp Massey?... I'm super jealous! Yeah, you could jump up to an 8ft snow pusher quite easily. It's all about traction at that point, get your tires filled with Rim-Guard (Beet Juice). I think I talk about this in the video. Notice I also plow with the back-ho installed. This combo with the turf tires is a no slip deal for me, you having even a heavier tractor (naturally) can definitely upsize the pusher. :) -KJ

@@WhereTwoNext thanks for the reply! Yes sir a 60 hp. It's a 2860 e by massey. I believe they are filling the tires for me free of charge, so that's good. I currently have a 35 hp massey, but I overload the maching often. I just need something a bit bigger and heavier. Was thinking of a 7 ft snow pusher but I think I will go with an 8 ft. Thanks for the help!

Former Buffalonian here and I would also like to see a belly mower video. Install / removal and operation please! Pro tip on plowing: pile the snow away from the road. Big piles near the end of the driveway make for big blind spot makers that last for months! We always pushed from the road in. When the pile got a truck length from the end of the driveway we started a new one or brought the front end loader around and pushed back. The little bit of road salt won’t hurt the grass. Nice tractor!

@SteelBlueCorvette Thanks and it's a great suggestion and one that I always adhered to back in my business parking lot plowing days. My wife did make me top those down and push them a bit more inward. I personally always back-in during the winter months, but the womenzzz DO NOT!. Luckily we live on a remote road, but duly noted and I want it safe for others for sure. The reason why I like to keep the majority pile out by the road is the usual residual of stone and sand left behind, it just lessens the spring cleanup. The skirting and wide shoulder is a fine gravel and I like the piles to melt as close to this as possible. But good eye, and I appreciate the suggestion and have already had to implement it right after that vid was shot. Dang, I already mounted the Mower of course for the season. I can do some clips of the mower mounting and coming off when I get some free time. I will definitely do a mowing video with the Massey 1740, I'll film several viewpoints and I may even send the drone up for some aerial/overhead clips. :) -KJ

I just ordered a 1835m cab but was planning to order with turf tires . I hear they work better on snow ice and hard packed ground better than R4s. What’s your thoughts ? Any regrets on the turf tires ? Would you go turf next time again ? Physically they appear a bit smaller on the tractor . I live in Minnesota and plan to use for similar plowing as well and yard maintenance (loader work l, not so much mowing ) any advice is welcome 🙏

Great Question, Empirical ! I've had plenty of hours on tractors plowing at my store, they all had Ag-traction tires. Then for my home (prior to the Massey 1740M) I purchased a Case International (27hp) and planned to primarily Mow with that, so I ordered it with Turf Tires. I then added a plow to it and was surprised at how good it did, albeit I didn't have loaded tires or any back weight or ballast. So long story wrapped up here is that when buying the Massey I wanted to again mow w an underbelly mower, which meant I had to go with the tad smaller turf tires (so the 72" belly mower could fit between the F & B tires). I told the dealer no problem!, I think the tires will be fine in the winter and this was much to his surprise. So yes, I would order Turf tires again but I'm not sure they are actually better than Ag? (Since I can't do a A/B comparison on the same tractor). BUT... I'm kinda thinking they might be, but in real deep snow, may be a different story I don't know? hmmm... -KJ

That's impressive that your tractor has the ability to push all that snow with the 30" high box. I'm looking at purchasing a 24" high box for my 45hp tractor. It's over 500 pounds. What kind of weight do you think I need on the 3pt hitch?
@WhereTwoNext
@WhereTwoNext 2 жыл бұрын
@John Barth Are you going to use one of those 3pt boxes? Those are great as you can load them with sand or gravel etc., a sure and cheaper way to add rear weight. Do you have the rear tires already loaded (preferably with beet juice over calcium chloride)?
@johnbarth684
@johnbarth684 2 жыл бұрын
I was going to get a Woods grader. It's about 450lbs. That and a quick hitch in the rear will get me balanced. My tires are loaded. The push box I like is from Express steel. 72" x 24" x 30". It's about 550lbs. They offer free shipping. I'm just south of Buffalo 20 miles. Lots of snow. 200" to 300" in a big year.

@John Barth Yeah you are in snow country for sure, I have a good friend who lives in Eden and owns/runs Clydes Feeds in Hamburg. That lake effect especially when Lake Eire is still warm is a snow making machine!. I remember Jim getting 8ft on one drop overnight, I believe about 4 years ago. Unbelievable. If you get that box from Express Steel along with your already loaded tires, you'll be fine, and pretty much any front blade or pusher you go with. And, that 8ft I talked about^ would be approachable, you'd have to just step it off and chunk it away (of course), and hopefully get some of it during the actual drop.

Just bought a MF 1835E hydro for and looking at a snow pusher. Is a 7ft pusher to much for this tractor? Looking for the voice(s) of experience.
@studio_490
@studio_490 5 ай бұрын
I believe I was on the border with 40hp. It handles it well, this year I decided to NOT install the backhoe for rear weight. That makes a big difference tbh. Traction yes, but also in countering the weight of this pusher. It takes the weight off the front axel basically. I would still say it’s fully operable without the backhoe, you just always need 4x4 engaged whereas before I would only engage it in 1ft and above (or super heavy wet snow maybe). Horsepower concerns? 35 gets below what I was told the threshold was for this pusher. Also to remember Hydro drives don’t get that HP to the wheels, some gets robbed vs. gear driven models that concur most of that hp to the wheels. To note, my 1740m is hydro also so I’m not getting nearly that 40 either at the wheels. So if it’s weight your concerned with, you could still go with the 7ft but in the lower profile. True it won’t be as tall/high to push real deep snow, but it will cut the weight of the pusher dramatically. Just some thoughts to ponder, you wanna do this right the first time. Good luck, let us know with what you went with and how you think it preforms! KJ Miller (WhereTWONext travel channel)

Hey Zack, I will make one this Spring. Could be of some Mfgr. importance also, as MF states on their sales brochure's and pamphlets that the 1735M is the biggest tractor accepting the mid-mount belly mower. I'll bust that myth soon! :) -KJ

Hello fellow New Yorker. Nice tractor! I just purchased the 60 hp massey. If you don't mind me asking, how did your 40 horse handle the snow with the snow pusher? I would like to get an 8 ft for my 60 horse, but not sure if that will be to much for the machine. I have ag tires and will be putting tire chains on the front as well.
@WhereTwoNext
@WhereTwoNext 3 жыл бұрын
@Adam X I would say that with the heaviest/wettest of large amount snow falls, the 40hp is pretty much at it's limits (or close to it) with the 7ftx30". Normal large snowfalls with even 2-3ft are easily handled and to my biggest surprise was the turf tires and the grip they provide, granted they are loaded with "Beet Juice" and I add the Back-ho when plowing. But IMO you should be able to handle the 8ft with NO PROBLEMS being that you have the 60hp model. Adam... I'm jealous man!. (U lucky dawg!). So, I would of went up to at least 50 ponies... if only I could of been able to use the belly mower w those bigger models. Cheers and always feel free to post up on our Vids! :)

I should add about traction and with you mentioning chains even on your front tires... I (now) hardly ever use 4WD when plowing. It has to be well over a foot and heavy. So in my 1st year with it, I once started out and forgot to put it in 4 wheel (on about a 14" over-nite dump). Backing it into my pole barn, I noticed this and ever since then I always start out plowing in 2-wheel, using 4-wheel as my extreme need/mode.

@@WhereTwoNext thanks for the info! It is a very nice tractor. The only reason I did not go with a 40 horse is because I have a mid 90s 35 horse massey and it's just not enough for some of the bigger jobs I have around home. I thank you for the info. Was torn between a 24 inch or a 30 snow pusher, but I think you sold me on a 30 inch. Your tractor seems to handle it no problems! My rear tires are loaded as well my brother put chains on his front tires this past wi.ter and it helped a lot... may better stick to them on gravel driveway though. Thanks for your time and the helpful Information!

Hey Adam X. What size snow pusher did you go with for your 60 HP model Massey. I purchased a 2860m Massey Ferguson. I run a 74 inch blower on the back so that is my counter weight on the back. Let me know what you purchased would be curious about input and would help greatly. I am leaning toward a 7 foot by 30 inch XP Snowpusher, but maybe I should go bigger? I push in the country and get a good snowpack base underneath so I don't tear up my gravel. I have R4 tires as well.

@@bigtimegolfer3668 hello. I purchased a 7 ft xp. If you will be pushing more than a foot of snow, I would stick with the 7 ftr. Also, I recommend getting the scraper on top of the pusher. Not a necessity, but very handy. It helps a lot next to doorways and such. I also recommend chains for the front of your tractor with the pusher. Once the ground gets icy, it wants to push. Them xp are good pushers, built well.
