Snowshoeing James Peak Wilderness

Жыл бұрынAfter a good snowstorm we took the opportunity to head up into the James Peak Wilderness to take advantage of the fresh powder and get in a well needed outing.
The East Portal Trailhead at the Moffat Tunnel and near the town of Rollinsville is a great place to escape and enjoy the backcountry in winter. With plenty of parking, a maintained road in winter and almost perfect weather after a storm had rolled through, today was the day.
No destination in mind, just being outdoors was all that was needed.

Snowshoeing, as you will know, just seems to add another level to trails you've been on before in other seasons. That, and less people on trail 😎

The James Peak Wilderness is overshadowed by the nearby Indian Peaks Wilderness and Rocky Mountain National Park! It is definitely a wonderful area to hike and explore.

I loveeee snowshoeing, and this one made me feel like I was right there with ya'll! I love the different type of adventure this is for your channel. Can't wait to see what the rest of winter brings for MHL!

It was a good test run to see how Debbie handled it after dealing with and recovering from sciatica over the summer. She did great and we have a green light to push forward!!! Bring on the snow and strap on the snowshoes ❄ 😎

That was really awesome, not only do you get an awesome workout but it was absolutely beautiful out there. Great views on that sunny winter day. We really needed this one! The weather and our schedule haven't been on the same page lately. This time, perfect, we had a small window of opportunity before things changed so we took advantage of it.

Really sharp video. I'd be out of breath in 100 yards snowshoeing, I think.

It's definitely tough, especially at altitude with climbs. We like to say we're taking it all in and need to stop frequently to take photos 🤣All kidding aside, it's beautiful out there and every climb has its rewards for the weary hiker.

If you do ever come out this way, happy to show you around. Shenandoah and New River Gorge are my home National Parks, I know them both very well.
