For the first time ever, the All Blacks aren't favourites for the Rugby World Cup. And yet, a perfectly-timed charge to win the Rugby Championship suggests perhaps they really should be. So why did the All Blacks underwhelm over the last few years, what have they put right, and can they go all the way in France this September?

Rugby is probably one of if not the greatest sport on earth. The eer changing ranking of the teams mean that at any point in a world cup cycle, your team may be playing amazingly and if not, it'll probably change quite quickly. The simple fact that almost any game can go either way based on how the teams are playing on a given day and the history of the game are 3 amazing reasons to give rugby a good go. You are in a great position here, you have the opportunity of your first ever proper rugby experience to be a world cup (and possibly one of the most entertaining and unpredictable world cups yet). So if I were you, I would really just enjoy the rugby, find some people to watch and talk with while watching, and try and make it through the graining stage of learning and understanding all the laws which everyone who didn't grow up watching rugby has gone through. Welcome to one of the world's best sports.

Growing up in New Zealand on in 2000s and 2010s was a privilege I grew up with an All Blacks team that never seemed to loose And if we did loose is was just about front page news every time But I’ll never forget my dad would tell me when he was growing up.. things were different We would struggle The bled would pass back and fourth across the Tasman The last time Australia won the bledisloe cup is was barely 2 years old We would go into World Cups as the favourites every time but every time come up short I grew up watching the all blacks win back to back world cups He would always tell me that one day the rest of the world will catch up They’ll watch our film Dissect our plays Mimic our routines And when they do we will have been on top for so long we we won’t be ready for the challenge Which is starting to show now I’m confident when it comes to world cups We’re still the team to beat But I’m nervous as the competition isn’t as easy as it once was

The other big development for me in terms of the ABs is that they went from having a world class super settled 12 and 13 in Nonu and Smith to kind of blah for years. They’ve now got, in Jordie and Reiko, I think a 12:13 balance which really helps to knit the team together.
@memene0

yes, i agree with you, man do i miss Nonu and Smith they were probably the best combination of centers i ever saw playing the game. Looked like a viking was as hard as nails on offense Tana was a wizard broke defensive lines for fun . That drop the shoulder side step into an offload to Conrad was a thing of beauty . I really enjoy your outstanding coverage. I would love to get your thoughts. Were the ABs monstered by SA at Twickernam and couldn't get their phase play going, or were they holding a lot back?

To lose by a record margin I don't think they held back,the allblacks are a proud rugby team to carry that into the world cup doesn't make sense

Yeah, can't see them holding back against springboks. Never a 'friendly' between them. Got swamped by boks at set piece, set the tempo and line speed was crazy in defence.

Amazing to think that 30 points is the biggest losing margin. The All Blacks have put on over 50 pts against every international team but the British Lions.

My take is that Ireland and NZ have the best XVs on the planet, but France and SA have the best squads of 50. If nz and/or Ireland can avoid injuries or suspensions, they'll be very difficult to beat, but the attrition of the rwc will provide the French and Boks a great shot. Cannot wait for this tournament

Not sure I agree, an NZ A team would beat most sides in the world and all other A teams on paper I'd say. Only areas that are missing in depth are in the centres, scrum halves and maybe props. Otherwise, there are some seriously world class players who would make any side in the world who have been left out
@natnut2008

South Africa will need all their 50 after surviving Ireland, Scotland and Tonga week after week in Pool B. Whoever makes it out of Group B has the reward of meeting either France or NZ in the quarters. Doubt Ireland nor S Africa will have their full complement of 1st choice XV after Group B has completed their round robin.

@rorybessell8280 Is the A team not New Zealand Maori ? Munster second team have beaten them and the South Africa A team so its not that straightforward but the talent in New Zealand is absolutely ridiculous.
@rorybessell8280
@rorybessell8280 8 ай бұрын
@@daratheprofessional1827 Well firstly, no. The Māori All Blacks are exactly what they're called, a team of Māori people, not necessarily the second team as people will be eligible for NZ but not the MABs. I was also not meaning the actual A team, but a hypothetical second string XV seeing as we were talking about main squad depth

That's if you believe the hype and spin surrounding NZ's "reversal of fortunes". Some of us believe the emperor isn't wearing any clothes. If you think you can turn a pigs arse into Marilyn Monroe on a rugby field in 12 months I've some magic beans to sell you.
