As a French supporter who cheered for you during the last WC final, I can't really argue with that. You have the quality and WC experience on the long term. If we want to take our first title in France, we have to come near perfection to eliminate the Boks and the other potential final candidates.

AJ is the best number 10 the US have ever had. What they are lacking is cohesion. They used to get by with having big carriers in the back row (think Samu Manoa), but the rest of the world has moved beyond that through good coaching. Individual performances aren't enough to beat 'tier 2' sides any more. Look at Fiji vs Uruguay.

Can't agree more. Just want a round of international games where all referees are reading from the same hymn book. Sick and tired of this "interpretation" nonsense. Rugby has been professional for almost 3 decades, yet the officials still behave amateurishly. World Rugby needs to do 2 things, firstly simplify the rules and secondly give referees more assistance, either by introducing a second on field referee or by adding more technological assistance. I really hope they go with the rule simplification.

According to the rules, a player is deemed on the ground if any part of his body other than his feet touch the ground and support his weight. Quite clearly that French players head touches the ground long before the wriggling to cross the line. A blatant double move. Shocking that Barnes got that so wrong.

I think South Africa were very unlucky to lose this France game though. A lot of things just worked against you guys (not that I agree with Erasmus's rants). I'm actually afraid of what's gonna happen after the world cup given how bad the Fiji and A team game against NZ were. I was wondering that too. The law says the player is brought to ground if he is lying, sitting or has one knee on the ground. He isn't lying or sitting. It's semantics, I know, but that's how I'd read it. But what the ref also needs to assess is: - to what extent is the ball carrier's forward momentum affected by the player bound on him driving forward and the defense pulling at him to access the ball ( both are clearly happening). Had it not been a try we have two penalties against SA including no tackle release and whatever Barnes stuck his arm out for.

Around the tryline you're allowed to stretch out to score the try, on any another part of the field you'll eventually have to release the ball if you're no supporting your own body weight. So no, you're not allowed to crawl around and the try was fine.

The try was valid. And even if for some reason, it would have been cancelled, there was an advantage for the French, so they would have scored at some point anyway, SA's defence was on the breaking point

I think teams with rush defence have put us under a lot of pressure we were used to, plus the most the Fiji game is a write off because our attack never clicks with carberry. I also reckon balacoune has something to do with it, class player but not a playmaker and never really got stuck in to the action the way Lowe does
