Squidge Rugby

Жыл бұрын

Saturday gave Scotland a day, a try, and a victory to never forget as Steve Borthwick's Great Big Twickenham Reset was put on hold. So how did Finn's fun brigade overcome the auld enemy, how far off are England, and just how good are those two Duhan tries?
If you've enjoyed any of the channel's content, you can also support Squidge Rugby on Patreon by visiting / squidgerugby , so I can start a limited print run of Duhan van der Merwe DVDs

watching Squidge's videos reminds me I essentially know nothing about rugby, despite having watched it for most of my life. That and the quality of punditry on TV, radio and in the papers is pretty poor (or if I'm generous, they are afraid to go into this level of detail)

This is an incredible video. As someone who’s seen a fair few games of rugby not not fully understood behind the basics of man run into man to stop man. This has really opened my eyes up to how tactical and strategically complicated this game is. The next game I go to, I’m going to view with a whole new perspective. Thank you.

That ending, brother, you really showed us how much you love rugby and reminded me of the essence of being a sports fan. We watch because we don't know how it will turn out, and because every once in a while we get to see something magical happen in real time. Ten or twenty years, a lifetime later, something will jog that memory and we'll feel a hint of that same magic. Few other things in life can do that as well as sports.

Yeah the day before the match I was thinking to myself- I wonder what it will be like at this time tomorrow once I know the end result. Cos before the match I had no idea who was going to win in all honesty. Thankfully a week on and I’m happy cos we managed to win, but it could have easily gone the other way and then I might not have even watched this video. Sport is a funny game :)

Well done squidge on the last 30 seconds. Was part of the mild rumbles 8 mins in during the autumn internationals but disappointed it was never acknowledged by the SRU. Everyone clapping did that looking around thing acknowledging others in the know, but we shouldn't have had to be in the know because of twitter etc. There should have been an ovation to celebrate Siobhan and the SRU should stop turning the other cheek and have a proper investigation.

Stone cold stunning as always. I watched this with my Scottish partner and they were buzzing. The ‘Why Kicking Isn’t Boring’ video caused me to look at the kicking this weekend totally differently and massively boosted my enjoyment of this maligned aspect of the game (and the subsequently punditry on things like the Rugby Union Daily). Love how you’re keeping the intelligence, the humour AND the integrity that makes this channel so special with messages like the one at the end.

So glad you’re highlighting so many positives for both sides. It’s been quite a harsh news and fan cycle sadly and it’s good to get so many positives to focus on. Also thank you for giving Richie Gray his due. Pundits have been such muppets saying he hasn’t been good or was a out of form for year, when he’s been mainly injured or his partner has a very scary birth of their child and opted not to go to the World Cup. He is a British and Irish lion, has won the challenge cup, 2 top 14 trophies and a pro14 cup for a reason. That big giraffe is such an underrated name in the game.

It was pathetic. I saw at least 3 times where he dropped out of shape to niggle at Finn. It seemed like an attempt to rattle him, or worse. I hope Borthwick asked him to do that, because if he was freelancing it it's a really bad look. As you say, it led directly to a try in one case, and it caused chaos in the defence in others.

I have obviously enjoyed listening to a whole host of pundit types 'waxing lyrical' about Duhan's try and Scotland's performance in general but this is the one I was waiting for! Squidge - some of your turns of phrase are worthy of the great Bill McLaren! Although obviously you get to say a lot of stuff that he never could! Your enthusiasm for the game and the detail of the game is fantastic to hear. I loved you kicking masterclass video and it has enhanced my enjoyment of the game. You are also so balanced in your reviews and I agree that both England and Wales have a lot to be cheerful about from their respective games. And when Farrell spends less time in defence being wound up by Finn the Smith Farrell axis will work even better. Week 1 is always hugely important but this weekend is when we will really learn what's going on (for everybody par England possibly). If the most predictable results happen then that will mean that Scotland can show consistency, Wales are in trouble, France are number 2 in the world and Ireland will have taken another big step towards their own unbeaten year in the most important year in every 4. I so appreciate the time you put into these videos and I look forward to watching again next week - whatever the outcome! Coz if Scotland lose to Wales on Saturday I'm going to need to know exactly how they managed it!

Could be wrong but it sort of seemed like Italy was trying something similar to putting a blindside player into the boot late, not the inside forward but a player stacked deep and behind the ruck until the last moment, letting the player initially in the boot slide out one. Just kinda seemed like Italy passed too early for that extra boot player to have committed someone
