Squidge Rugby

5 жыл бұрын

After a humiliation on their home turf a week ago, Ireland travelled to Murrayfield looking to stop a Scotland team buoyed by the casual magnificence of a Mr Finn Russell. So how did Ireland bounce back, and how much bounce did Russell give the Scots?
If you've enjoyed any of the channel's content, you can also support Squidge Rugby on Patreon by visiting / squidgerugby , which will allow me to feel slightly less incredibly uptight all the time thanks to being a touch closer to fiscal security.
You can prove you know more about rugby than me by joining the Squidge Rugby Superb Fantasy League at the link here- www.superbru.com/sixnationsfa...
And finally, Malawi are trying to get a national 7s team off the ground for the first time ever, and need help to get them to the African Rugby Championship. You can give them a hand at www.backabuddy.co.za/malawi-7...

In Schmidt's defence, when he was head coach at Leinster, Leinster were head and shoulders above every team in Europe as evidenced by consecutive Heineken Cup victories during his tenure with club. But they were the best via a mix of exciting back and forwards plays. Leinster were the fastest passers of the ball, and they were entertaining to watch. And I'm not a Leinster fan. I am Irish though and many Irish fans I believe had expected to see the same exciting back play replicated with the national team when Schmidt took over. Surprisingly Schmidt opted and continues to opt for a boring efficient but effective (especially if the scrum half plays well) game plan.

To be totally one hundred percent fair to Townsend, he was in charge of Glasgow when Johnson was brought in out of Desert. Sorry, Dysart, which just sounds like an Australian trying to pronounce Desert. Also Johnson has, largely, got more games under Townsend at Glasgow, than he has under Rennie*. Also, Finn Russell's Risk Assessments have improved massively since playing in France. That's just weird to say but it's true. Probably, because in France he'll get crushed by some 30 Stone Pacific Islander if he makes a mistake there. *I haven't actually fact checked this, but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

That’s the second time in the space of a year that Scotland’s completely fucked it against Ireland and it’s been nothing but painful to watch. In both matches we made a shit load of handling errors and also bottled several try scoring opportunities. The worst part of it all being that we use all these fancy moves and get nothing out of them, but Ireland only need one slip up to score

Set move or not on Stockdale's try, Dell opened the hole by tackling Sexton. He didn't have to. If he stays where he was? Stockdale at the very least is slowed. That try was all on Dell not reading the play. Sexton is no longer a threat to make a major line break, he simply does not have the pace. He should've let Ritchie take Sexton and stayed put.

Perfect example of Ireland using the "MUST SMASH SEXTON" mentality of the opposition to their advantage. Unfortunately, he then had to leave the pitch after failing a HIA which is the natural downside to this scheme.

Excellent with interesting new analysis, the second half was so boring that it really makes you wonder if the Irish are holding stuff back for the RWC. They are going to have to find some way of breaking the line other than having Sexton go to the line and get crucified. As a West Briton, do you think Navidi has the potential to get to Warbuton's level?

Not in all aspects. Munster have a better defence than Leinster does and always have had a better defence. Leinster is a highly attacking and possession based team whereas Munster are more territorial. Also they are very evenly matched teams so it’s unfair to say ones better than the other.
@liamofarrell7751
@liamofarrell7751 5 жыл бұрын
Anyway the point I was trying to make is Ireland shouldn’t be playing the same style as its provincial teams if they want to do well the game style needs to be more diverse if they want to beat teams like England who currently are playing a very Exeter Style and to beat that you need to implement tactics that have beaten that team.

Great analysis, however I felt watching that Scotland were the better side. As a Scotland fan and considering I was actually in Murrayfield I obviously might be bias but I really felt Ireland were gifted the win. Also very bitter about the obstruction on Hogg, that first try killed all momentum Scotland had built and had that not happened I feel it would have been a very different game.

To be fair, if Scotland were “the better side” they would have won. Poite was poor but he was just as shitty to both teams. The reason Scotland had so many calls against them wasn’t because as Laidlaw put it “Poite doesn’t like us very much”. It’s because they fucked up over and over and over again. 15 unforced handling errors doesn’t win games and it definitely doesn’t show the “better team” . Ireland played better in the end. Wishing the scots luck against France in two weeks time though!

Joey Fitzgerald you’re both wrong and right, just because you’re a better team doesn’t mean you win the game, that is the nature of upsets and sneaking a win, sometimes you’re lucky not good, Ireland won and were helped by some questionable actions from poite but he’s not as bad as I think a lot of people are saying

Great analysis of the first half but a bit lacking in the second. The lack of a bench is what cost us really, with the forwards loosing the gainline. When we have our proper forwards on, with the ones starting coming from the bench, we should be more competitive in the second half. Agree that Johnson is what we need at 12 though, mainly a defensive position for Scotland over the years, its nice to see some creativity (thats not Russel haha) playing there. Lastly why do refs always warn players for holding on/not rolling away rather than just give a penalty. Ireland always won 1 or 2 secs before warned but the damage was already done (again and again).

Side note but Rory best is the most annoying captain, always in the referee's ear even after the ref tells him to go away, every time the ref's there and there's a break in play he's trying to get a decision. In squidge's Sam Warburton video he said how Warburton was such a good captain because of his communication with refs and how he did this selectively, best is the opposite, really poor in that respect
