Yes! Here I am married 15 years later 🤪 I think it depends on the person. Sometimes it’s can be overwhelming. Yet, maybe feeling a person out and maybe let it become a natural conversation. In my case I guess it was different? Being a single mom not messing around and laying out the cards. But if it were different circumstances I wouldn’t bring any of that up. This can also, form your opinion on this person before truly getting to know them before all the other things that matter to them ?! I don’t know…good conversation with audience 💗

Good point...at the end of the day people bring up what matters to them, especially on a first date - as you mentioned. So, it's a good indication of what "type" of person they are - are they serious, are they superficial, are they "intense," are they passionate? There's no wrong or right I suppose, just different ways of being...different "wavelengths."

Classicism... reminds me a lot of Turks. Lol I agree, though. This is a great topic. I have talked about politics to a couple of Arabs in the past, both of them were Iraqi. One of them was Christian, so he had very biased views about Turks. You can probably imagine how much my blood boiled when he mentioned that rakı was invented by Greeks. The second one had two problems with him. The first issue was his internalised homophobia. He said that he could never "break his parents' hearts", and he would totally marry a woman if he could. (I never understood how that was possible for a bottom... ) The second issue was that he seemed very puzzled by my background, and that makes me highly uncomfortable when people see me that way. I know you've mentioned that you have similar experiences with being French and Turkish. I'm half Lebanese (so I spoke a little bit of French and Arabic while growing up before I stopped seeing my father in 2004), and I'm also part English because AnneAnne was half on her mom's side. And, my goodness, I was like a specimen to him. He wanted to know my shoe size, he said that I have a big nose (I never understood people's fascination with noses), and I think he also wondered a few other things that I can't remember. He also had his political views on our food. I was telling him about çoban salatası, for example, and he said that that's "just normal salad". So, those were probably the strangest and most political experiences I ever had on Grindr, but I, thankfully, never met them. The LGBTQIA++ world is very upside-down right now, unfortunately, so I understand how many people are feeling nowadays. The recent situation in Hungary is angering people, myself included. KZfaq proudly shows all those homophobic videos, but it deleted my comment when I said that their flag should be burnt. Meaning, it's a very difficult time right now to be queer, and especially for those of us who stand with Black Lives Matter. However, I do agree that, on a first date, things should be sweet and simple. This subject is too heavy for any date, rather. Stay well, canım! Hopefully the next date will be better. Öpüyorum!

Oh, I've been in a situation like this. It was a great date, in my opinion (the one that I had where political topics were brought up). I think I like being entertained by ideas moreso, though. This also seems to impact the kind of people that I wind up dating. The ones I've enjoyed seeing seemed to have more of a philosophical perspective on things. Though, perhaps I should also consider that there are different ways to date. Then again, I have friends who hate having these discussions altogether. I think as a general rule it's generally easier to speak about light topics, but it definitely doesn't ruin the date if both people are very "intense" individuals who like to talk about "heavy" things. So yeah, it just seems like you guys weren't necessarily approaching the first date in a similar way. Despite this, it seems like you had initial chemistry, so perhaps this is worth giving a second go. : )
@KevenTalks
@KevenTalks 2 жыл бұрын
I actually also like "intense people" aka people who like having deep conversations, aren't afraid to "go there," etc. I just didn't like that I felt lectured/ condescended to, but maybe that was my own insecurity.
@Victorrrrrrrrrrr2024
@Victorrrrrrrrrrr2024 2 жыл бұрын
@@KevenTalks I can't say whether it was your own insecurity or whether he was patronizing. All I know is that it's a pretty polarizing issue, so you're bound to feel some sense of discomfort if it's not something that is often brought up. Healthy disagreements are okay, I think. Actually, I think they're quite necessary. This guy sounds like he was emotionally attached to the issue due to this status as a person of colour (yeah... I'm using Canadian spelling...), so I think this created a disconnect between what emotional bond you were trying to generate with him in that moment. This is compounded by the fact that this is a "first date" where you don't really have "that much" emotional investment and don't think of him as a unit with you. By unit I mean this in the way that couples say "us" and "we", etc etc. However, his attachment to this issue makes a lot of rational sense. The main problem is that this can often lead into ad hominems being used or interpreted instead of actually addressing the issue from a theoretical perspective. For you, perhaps it is easier to be removed from the situation, and I don't say this to sound patronizing. It's applicable to many situations and seems to happen whenever I want to discuss women's issues with a woman and it gets real theoretical and then things go sour because of something I've said that doesn't sit right within their lived experience. Or at least, to even question it feels as if it is a personal attack o that woman. In any case, I'm open to critique. I thought this was engaging. Good stuff.
@KevenTalks
@KevenTalks 2 жыл бұрын
@@Victorrrrrrrrrrr2024 That totally makes sense. And yes I agree that maybe the things I said were triggering for him. But then why do you bring that kind of topic up on a date, if you know it can trigger you? 🤔 That feels like baiting to me, I don't know.
@Victorrrrrrrrrrr2024
@Victorrrrrrrrrrr2024 2 жыл бұрын
@@KevenTalks In my opinion, the point of dates is to gether data to make meaningful decisions. If this is data he needs to understand whether the compatibility (actually I think gay men need to discuss compatibility beyond sexual positions because we're really reducing ourselves here) works, then I think it is a good thing to bring up. You both had different priorities, but this isn't to antagonize him, nor to antagonize you with intent. The main thing to consider is whether this data is congruent with what you are looking for. People often go on dates asking themselves "will they like me?" when they should really be asking themselves "will I like them?". Lastly, I often wonder if these ideas are things you would bring up with the people you're dating within the moment, or if these are things that you only find yourself being able to recognize after these events.

At every first date, I don't care about the topics that much. I do prefer to have an 'all-cards-on-the-table' approach, though there is never an obligation to share everything; I just prefer it. The experience you had, did not happen to me. Perhaps because I have always noticed that my dates like to stay neutral in order not to offend me. I don't like it when they do that. I do like a juicy discussion, because then I get to know more about their personality and ideals; things which are hard to notice on a superficial front.

I actually generally agree! I'd rather see "the real them" upfront, and I prefer authentic, complex conversations as opposed to small talk. I just didn't like the direction it took - how it turned into a lecture as opposed to a simple philosophical conversation, etc.

I don't recall having been in such a situation, but I think it's a loud warning bell. Many/most of us today have strong political views--sadly--since what "middle" exists gets little coverage. But to bring up a topic like that with someone you just met is concerning. If he was trying to discern your concern about an issue very important to him, he should have waited and gotten to know you a bit better. Seems like a draw play to me. I'd be wary of him...if you see him again.
