In my next Final Fantasy 8 Remastered episode, I update my viewers on my mid-game character setup - in terms of GFs and junctions. Ie, who has which Guardian Force and which magics junctioned to stats? As you can see, we are still very much overpowered but I guess getting the game's strongest magic (Ultima) junctioned to strength by Disk 2 is kinda gonna do that :P

Do you need to level your characters to level 100 to beat the game or is it for a trophy? I mean does the final boss stay low levelled or naturally high level? Nice and informative video GG

You actually can get Full-Life spells by getting Regen Rings dropped (not mugged) from Chimeras in the desert or Mesmerize near Trabia by leveling then up with Tonberry! They are a rare drop, so it might take a bit, but they mod into 20 Full-Life per! Can't help with Triple, but the best use for it is with Hit-J for everyone but Squall/Selphie. My personal GF spread for best junction coverage with the last amount of ability editing is as follows Squall/Selphie: Ifrit (with ElemDefx4) Siren (with StatDefx4) Carbuncle (with Abilityx4) Leviathan Pandemona (with Eva-J) Bahamut (with Luck-J) Quistis/Rinoa: Quezacotl Brothers Cerberus Alexander (with Abilityx4) Cactuar Irvine/Zell: Shiva (with extra Card) Diablos (with Luck-J & Abilityx4) Doomtrain Tonberry Eden This gives all coverage to all characters and spreads the other abilities nicely too!

I remember when I was a kid playing this game. I would get all my guys to lvl 100 on disc 1 and think I was the best. Now I realize how much time I waisted.

An alternate method to get Flare on Disc 2: in galbadia garden before seifer and edea fight, there is a save point outside the room on the roundabout. Tri face and hexadragon spawn next to the save point. Use tonberry’s lvl up ability on the triface keep lvl up until it has flare. For me he usually gets it by the second lvl up. Set your card player to card only after they have max flare, let squall go crazy on tri face (leave str junctioned) after both mages have flare (my squall didn’t have mag-j yet so his draws fail), have your mug character mug 6-8 curse spikes after he/she has max flare. Tri face will be carded. No exp gained, 6-8 curse spikes gained, 200 flare gained. From here transfer your highest magic stat character’s flare to squall. Then repeat the process one more time to refill that characters flare, mig another batch of curse spikes, and get another Tri face card. Watch out for confuse, equip it to st-def. With 3x speed and battle enhancements on, this process takes about 7 minutes. Oh and flee or card hexadragon. Even with lvl up he only Carries dispel, reflect, and sleep. No RNG manipulation required. If you’re at this story point and forgot ruby dragon this imo is a quick easy alternative. You get curse spikes in place of meteor so still a good trade

Last tip, i usual set all three characters to draw until two are maxed. Then switch my card player to card, and my mug player (with no str junction) to mug. I’ll let my no mag junction character attack normally with my best str junction after the other tow members have maxed flare. Set your cursor to remember in config menu. Turn on 3x speed and battle enhancements. From here just hold down A on Xbox or X on PS, until it says flare is full for a character. Switch that character to their next role then hold down the A or X until your second character is full, etc…

On Disc 2 you can max out Full-Life by using “Card” and force spawning Chimera in the Centra desert near Cactuar Island. Refine the cards into Regen Rings and then use Life Mag RF to make Full-Life spells. It’s pretty fast if you’re super low level and have a good Atk Junction

I Personally tried out a New Set up, where I level up all the GFs on Three Current Characters, and whenever the game switches Party Members, I just Switch out the Junctions and continue playing as is, Whatever Items I get, I save (Especially GF related Items) and then I started making Adjustments once Everyone becomes playable again.

A couple easy ways to get Full-life are Chimera cards as well as fighting Lv.30+ Chimeras and Mesmerizes. Chimeras can be spawned with RNG manipulation in the same desert you fight Cactuars near Cactuar Island. Chimeras drop 3 Regen Rings at a time and Mesmerize drops 2 at a time and are located in Trabia and parts of Esthar. They're rare drops on their loot tables.

Meteor on hp and pain for magic is only suggestions id make since you don't have triples yet I'm guessing. Would give you higher hp and magic.

For Triple, if you level up your characters so that you have an average party level of 17 before you fight Cerberus, you have a 50% chance of him being high enough to carry Triple (just restart and reload if he isn’t). Since you can have Rosetta Stones from the Galbadian prisoner before then, as well as one copy of each stat Bonus ability, you can level up your characters with 4 of those bonuses equipped for all the same benefits of doing it later; you just have to be a lot more careful about what enemies you fight. It’s best to have LV Down and scan while doing this so you can control what exp you’re getting. You could theoretically just level everyone up to 100 on Disc 2 doing this, but it’s a bit of a pain in the ass, so I recommend just getting the three characters you plan to fight Cerberus with to a 17 average. Alternatively, once you have Alexander, you’ve got access to High Mag Refine, which lets you refine Double into Triple at a rate of 10:1. Since Dragon Fins refine into into Double at 1:20, that’s effectively a 1:2 rate of refinement. Dragon Fins refine from Grendel cards (1:1), or you can mug Grendels. It’s definitely more tedious than drawing from Cerberus, but it’s not too bad. As others have stated, Chimera cards are the best way to grab Full-Life before running into the Esthar enemies that have Regen Rings as more common drops, but that’s a pain in the ass. You can farm the cards (and if you’re lucky, Regen Rings) from Chimeras in deserts, but that’s still a tedious process. Not a bad idea to have a few Full Lifes from Chimera cards as an emergency measure, though, if some enemy gets off a lucky Death spell or similar when you weren’t junctioned for that.

Great info vid, Fuzz. Very helpful! One thing, though. A low level game is a bit easier (almost too easy, some would say), but also very time consuming and requires a lot of strategic ability use of EncNone, Card, and Break. By acquiring all these high level magics so early, the characters are so overpowered that it's not entirely necessary to stay low level. In the end, that strategy is really only for maxing stats, which most casual gamers don't care about. Not a criticism! I just thought it was worth pointing out that the game can be enjoyed by leveling up like normal too. See you at the next stream, buddy! 😎

@FuzzfingerGaming I used to use Selphie as a a magic user for a long time as well before I realized how much i was wasting her as a melee fighter, her ultimate weapon grants her 255hit stat same as Squall meaning she will never miss, even while blinded, and the hit stat doesn't apply to magic so i felt she was a better substitute for Squall during segments where he wasn't with you, or swapping her out as a secondary melee fighter with Zell in the party, keeping Rinoa and Quistiss as my mages since Quistiss has a higher base magic stat then Selphie and all of her limit breaks are magic based and would benefit from a higher magic junction setup as well. These are some things for you to think about during your second play through and see if you like it better or not :D

You can also draw Triple from Odin, so if you decide to get him at his earliest point and do the Centra tower quickly enough (with the stat set-ups you've been showing it would be a cinch to kill him) you can get 100 for each character in about 3 minutes. You can also get stop which is an excellent stat attack junction.

You can still get Triple on a low level game from Odin, if you use the glitch to Odin from the ps1 version which was tested to still work on the remaster you won’t have to recruit Odin and can walk away with triple, the Odin card and a luck-j scroll if you mug him. For some reason if you enter a multi series attack like Zells Duel Limit break while the timer is about to expire and it hits zero while in the attack and it kills Odin then instead of receiving the GF it will give you the same message as if you failed the Odin fight. You can choose retry and be sent to the world map with Odin still able to be challenged and collected but all the spoils you will still have.

Knightz ANT I know this was a glitch in the original allowing you to basically get luck-j scrolls and Odin card with out actually getting Odin. If the timer hits 0.00 while in for example zells duel and Odin’s HP hits zero you get all the rewards including the draw magic if you do that but the game will count it as you failed defeating Odin before the timer ran out, so you will get the screen saying retry or game over. Selecting retry will put you outside of the the ruins with all the rewards but Odin will still be in the ruins alive allowing you to redo this as many times as you want. And it still works in the remaster

From Disc 1 you can Card Mod Chimera cards for Regen Rings which refine into 20 Full-Life, you can also obtain Regen Rings from Lefty in the Winhill Region. Also Holy is a tad bit better for HP if you're not using it somewhere else, that way you can free up Aura for use in battles. You can also make a Phoenix Pinion (or get the free one in Winhill) and use it in battle so that from that point on you have 25% chance of being saved by phoenix when your party is KO'd. 50 Phoenix Down -> 1 Mega Phoenix (Med Lv Up from Alexander), 3 Mega Phoenix -> 1 Phoenix Pinion (Tool-RF from Siren).

When you get Edea in your party you can farm Mesmerize just outside of Esthar for Regen rings (rare drop). Lvl them up to 30 and have at them. Kill off everyone but Edea and no worries about exp. Should go faster then farming Ultima and you can lvl GFs while you do it.

Pain is better junctioned to Mag than Meteor (as is Triple, if you’re willing to level up just a bit before fighting Cerberus). Pain is valuable in St-Atk and St-Def, but for the most part, you don’t need it there, so unless you actually do, it’s probably best to keep it on Mag till you get Triple. Maybe even after that if you want Triple on some other stat. Alternatively, just stick Ultima on Mag, it’s not like you WANT high Str most of the time in a low level game, since you’re either running or carding most battles (and if you’re carding, Demi or Quistis’s Micro Missiles are much safer means of inflicting damage than attacking in virtually every situation). Aura, Flare, Holy, and Meteor are all awesome on Str as well if you want a ridiculously over the top Str stat in llg.

You can get Triple an all 3 characters by Disc 2: Disc 1: win the Quistis card => card mod to 3x Samantha Souls => Time Mag-RF into 180 Triple.   Disc 2: win the Irvine card => card mod into 3x Rocket Engines => Time Mag-RF into 180 Triple.

While you can do this, the Rocket Engines are better used for giving Spd+40% to one of your GFs so that all three characters can have +Spd as early as possible. Also, there's _really_ no reason to get Triple that early-you should already be OP af by that point, and you can easily get Triple at the end of disc 2 for free by drawing from Cerberus. You're giving up your Quistis card, which is great for playing TT, for no real reason. But of course, anything works in this game. It's built to let you do whatever you want.

I find fury fragments are much easier to collect in late Disc 2 by farming Grendels in the forest outside where you initially find Galbadia Garden. You have to use level up, they only drop at level 30+, and there’s only about a 10% chance of getting the drop, but the blue dragons in Trabia are so damn rare, while you can get guaranteed grendel encounters by hugging the cliff walls. This is especially pertinent if you’re going for a 1-escape perfect game and want to keep your level low with the Card ability, since the multi-enemy irrelevant encounters in Trabia take much longer to get through using Card. Alternatively, you can farm Elastoid cards; they mod to Steel Pipes, which can be modded to one Aura Stone apiece, which refines to one Aura; but that’s pretty tedious if you want 300.

I found that going with Ruby dragon leveling it up and then carding it you get between 2 to 4 fury fragments or you could get the Energy crystals that are needed for the two is ultimate weapon

I was using the high speed option to draw full life from bahamut. His mega flare killed me and I had to start over. I did it again with normal speed and beat his ass after maxing my 3 out.

50 Chimera cards will get you 100 Full-Life spells as early as the very beginning of the game.

Chimera card are hard to farm at early game because it all rng, the same as farming for holy off Krystal. I spend nearly 1 to 2 hour trying to get enough card for holy because i fought diablos at a low lvl

I’ve been following this guide and in my game Cerberus doesn’t have the option to learn Auto-Haste, I can’t junction anything to squalls El-A/D stats or his speed stat?

I was already level 60 before I got some stat bonus GF and it wasn't cactuar. By cactuar everyone was nearly 90 lol. Indid use them but didn't take advantage like you said. Anyway it didn't matter in the end because I steamrolled the game at level 99 including omega with 255 in str and magic so I didn't even need to max via cards or devour. Many other stats were low hundreds or even lower like 80 or 90. I had Ultima on Luck because a lot of the other stats were maxed out with weaker magic I thought about one day returning and doing a level 1 game and maxing stats but I honestly don't see the point. Since there is only cactuar and one other GF with these abilities I assume you have to keeontwo other characters dead and focus on raising one at a time? Otherwise how do you give str mag vit spr on everyone at the same time? I've not included HP bonus because I think the other 4 are the ones to equip if doing this. 5 bonus abilities only 4 ability slots :) Even if you do this I think you still have to card mod later or devour? So for someone like me it may be faster to just card mod now instead of a new game at level 1

I don't understand how you don't have full life or triple admittedly it takes a lot of grinding but you can use like refine on the regenerating to get for the life you have to carve might like what Timber he needs to get more repairing if I recall correctly as for triple Diablos can refine triple if I could just remember what you refine the from I would tell you but falls under his time magic refine ability

I've always wondered since the nineties, one can stock Ultemicia's Catastrophe magic, but can never junction it. Is there any reason to draw them at all ?

Play casual for your first play through. Just pay attention to drawing gfs and the missable stuff. Doing all this stuff makes the game so easy. Back in the day I never used card mod and it was much more enjoyable.

Exactly , it seemed much more fun playing it as you would any other game . Being overpowered is great , but even if you just farm and level up at end of Disc 3 ( as you would need to because Disc 4 gets much tougher ) , that still allows most of the party members to level up to the max , and also makes for challenging bosses and a very enjoyable game overall . Really looking forward to playing this game again soon !!

Gfs level up with AP and don’t level up with XP like characters do and there are multiple fights where you can get AP and not XP

he uses the CARD ability to card enemies who have taken enough health damage, means you wont get XPbut you'll get AP and item drops
