Great job. One other fun little thing is Su and Moa appeared in Corey Taylor's "CMFT Must Be Stopped" music video. (blink and you will miss it though) Corey of Slipknot became a fan of BABYMETAL because his son is a huge fan of theirs. 🤘🦊🤘

You forgot one very important person on Team Babymetal. She worked with Suzuka Nakamoto in Karen girls' as well as with the members of Sakura Gakuin, and finally with Babymetal. That is their choreographer, Mikiko Mizuno.

great video, very informativ even for some1 who listen and watch their videos since a few years now. only thing i could maybe add: the similarity of the japanese translation of heavy metal "ヘヴィメタル (spoken like hebi-metaru)" and Babymetal "ベイビーメタル (spoken like bebi-metaru)" was one of the main reasons for their name afaik. not sure if this was said in one of the babymetal-guides or some other video/site. if i stumble over this information again i'll post a link. and congratulations on your excellent taste in music ;)

May 2023: I discovered and became obsessed with Babymetal. Binge watching any and all videos by or about them on KZfaq (yes including yours Briaghh). July 2023: I purchased tickets to see the final show of Babymetal's North American tour in October, and spending the rest of the summer of 2023 in anticipation of an epic event.

Always glad to see new BM fans doing this type of vids helping others to getting know more about them. Recently another channel called Omajination did a nice job too, and both of you got some necessary update since the "A BabyMetal Guide" by CrypticMisery is full of basic and helpful info but only until early 2021. Anyway i saw in the comment some mentioned about skipping the "nitpicking" part but here's some for you, don't worry, I don't think you need to do this all over, you did a great job, maybe used the description box or pinned message to clarify if you want. - One of the main thing to understand BM is that they have a lot of pun intended words and titles, including their name Babymetal sounds like heavy-metal in Japanese and it was a reference to the birth of a new genre (kawaii-metal), being so young and underage could be another motif for that name but this is the official statement. - SuMetal was admitted to ASH in 2006, so she had 8 yo, not 9, maybe this is a usual honest mistake when counting her age, she would have 9 yo in 2006 but at the end of December. - There's more info about Suzuka, as well her sister Himeka and her dad but i guess is ok not going on full and compress everything you can. - Momoko Okazaki (MomoMetal) is from Fukuoka prefecture, she moved on to Kanagawa when having 3 yo, same place where Yui-chan was born, so you got it backwards. - YuiMetal said she wants to pursue her own dreams as a Yui Mizuno, that could be her own career, everyone is expecting that since she's still part of Amuse agency, but it could be anything including acting. - BM fans love the Kami Band, and we will always remember talented musicians and beloved Kami Band's guitarist Míkio, technically he and none of the Kami Band aren't official members of this group, again this is nitpicking just so you know. - "Line"? You really are a new BM fan, don't worry, it's a common mistake (unless you're doing this in purpose like some fans do just to have fun), is actually _"iine"_ with the capital i, when you hear the song chorus is even more clear.😅 - In 2016 prior to Tokyo Dome 2016 they performed a headlining show at Wembley Arena, it was another milestone for them and is part of the "10 BabyMetal Legends" as well the exclusive interview at "10 BM Years Chronicles", highly suggest if you didn't. - For timeline sake, F.Hero collab in June 2019 was before Glastonbury 2019, only 1 day but it was before. F.Hero performed with the girls again on the stage this year live at Bangkok as part of the Asian Tour. - In 2020 they weren't exactly so quiet, thou we can say due to pandemic restrictions they couldn't performed live, they released BxMxC official MV, as well the new collab with BMTH, so it wasn't in 2022. Starting 2021 they held 10 live concerts at Budokan as part of the 10 BM Years throughout 4 months, later on in October they sealed the group and thanking everyone with the new version of The One - Stairway To Living Legend. In April 1 2022 (Fox Day) they announced a return and the new project The Other One with exclusive snippets for fans who bought the set, later in October the new single Divine Attack - Shingeki came out being the first BM song with SuMetal getting the lyrics credits. - A missing part on this was the change on BM logo and everything around the Metalverse as well the new BM sub-unit, i guess this is probably because it's part of the lore and you don't wanna be so long with this but i think it worth a mention. Another thing that is unclear for me is about SuMetal starting in 2002 or 2003, i guess she won Bandai Jewel Drop in 2002 when having 4 and later she did the promotional in 2003 which is the vid we can see around with her being 5 yo, but that just me don't worry. Like i said overall you did a great job compiling all this info and at the same time you were lovely and fun so is a big W. Hope to see you around with more BM content and anything you want to share from them including reactions of anything you didn't watch yet, if any look for Babymetal Reactor Resources (BMRR) to get clips of original performance you can find a spreadsheet in the "Future Plans" short vid. Kitsune up and see you next time 🦊🤘❤️

Oh dear, you fell into the "Line" trap. It's actually "iine", which means "so good", like a 👍 . Otherwise, an excellent primer on Babymetal. One thing I noticed that you missed was their appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on April 5th 2016, where they performed "Gimme Chocolate" live. One small but important detail about the Tokyo Dome 2016 show was that it was the one and only live performance of "Tales of the Destinies". Regarding Momoko officially joining, what actually happened was that at Babymetal Returns - The Other One in late January this year, they teased "the birth of a new metal" at the end of the second night, but left it fairly ambiguous to keep fans guessing. It was only at the end of Babymetal Begins - The Other One: Black Night on Fox Day (April 1st) that it was revealed that there would be a new lineup and it would be Momoko (though pretty much everyone who was there was expecting it to be Momoko by that point).

If I had to be picky I'd point out that the Kami Band members are not technically part of BABYMETAL (at the part where you mentioned Mikio's untimely decease: 4:13 mark). So, he isn't a former member of BABYMETAL. Official members are (or have been) only Su-metal, Yuimetal, Moametal and Momometal. 🤘🦊

Because you enjoyed it, some more little facts: An other little detail you might not know, what they've done with their name, they rhyme with heavy metal in Japanese: Heavy metal: ヘビメタ (romaji transcription: hebimeta) Babymetal: ベビメタ (romaji transcription: bebimeta) Babymetal's name came to Kobametal as a 'revelation' 🙂 Implying a divine. Koba used to work with bands at Amuse, One Ok Rock is a band Amuse has, but I think he was working on harsher and/or more electronics bands. I assume the band or contract with the band he was working with ended and Amuse said: well rock, bands, etc. just isn't so in demand anymore. Please go work at the kids department. This period is also known as the "Idol Warring States Period", referring to a time in history Japan hat lots of internal conflict. The period is a time when idols dominate the charts and the attention in the media and big idol groups battles for the top spots. Koba got asked to work on a project for the ministry of agriculture (and other things), the ministry wanted a group to promote certain foods/produce. So Mini-pati was born. As I understood it, in his life outside of Amuse he was involved in a pâtisserie, I think he mostly helped someone start a business with funding and organizing ? Karen Girl's was meant to end after a year, because they were created to deliver half of the music for an anime. They were seen as a little sister group of Perfume. Perfume came from ASH (Actor's School Hiroshima, which doesn't actually teach acting for movies, etc. But I'm certain it has a lot about presenting yourself on stage, ASH is owned by a TV broadcasting company). Suzuka's sister Himeka applied and her little sister Suzuka tagged along and did the same, Suzuka was accepted with a scholarship, but Himeka was not. She applied the year after and was accepted. Because Perfume was so popular and they both came from the same place and Suzuka got also hired by Amuse, she really looked up to them. Her sister got to be part of the idol group Nagasaki46. When Karen Girl's ended and before Sakura Gakuin started, their was a non-public training group. It had far more girls involved than SG, but it seemed to have been used as a sort of selection process. Suzuka and Ayami accepted to be part of SG, the other Karen Girl's member did not (she lived to far away from Tokyo). During the first while of the training group Suzuka would not attend the training group, but practice the dances at home from a video they would send to her. She put them on the TV at home and would practice, but she forget what is on TV is horizontally flipped to how she would need to dance, so at the first meeting she did attend, turns out she got it all wrong. And had to re-learn them all. After a while Suzuka, Himeka and her mom moved to Tokyo to be closer to their work. This is when mom was involved in the precious gems shop (if she owned it or if she was just an employee or if she already had such a business in Hiroshima, etc. we don't know). Dad stayed home with the family business he could not easily leave (he used to be in a band, but based on just one source: took over the family business because of the health of his father). At Karen Girl's last concert Mini-Pati was the opening group and they performed the last song together as an encore (repeat of their main hit song). Yui also attended this concert with her family an audience member. This means we got Koba, Suzuka and Yui in the same building. This is when Koba got to see Suzuka perform live for the first time (and probably before as some training for them to work together for the last song). Because Karen Girl's ended Suzuka performed with Mini-Pati at least ones, dressed as a maid. So it's clear Koba wanted to keep Suzuka close. He was telling his bosses he wanted to start this metal idol group, but bands were not in the charts, so he didn't get permissions. Then when SG got started, he and Mini-Pati and it's members and Suzuka and Ayami were all gonna be part of it. Because SG had sub-units he was allowed to try some stuff, almost like a hobby project, because he would not get funding. But he could re-use some things lying around and in use for SG. He did do a sort of audition for Babymetal, but I think he already knew he wanted Suzuka to be the leader, it was him doing 'due diligence' to make sure he wasn't making a mistake or leaving something even better on the table. Karen Girl's largest live performance was their hit song as a sort of anime song festival, but it was in front of a 20 000 people crowd at the Saitama Super Arena (Babymetal has performed their many times, fans joke she probably has her own set of keys now). Suzuka with all her ASH training (her being both the youngest and the most experienced of the Karen Girl's) and her mindset/the way she thinks, was the one that wasn't nervous and was just sleeping in the dressing room an hour before their performance. Ayami and Yuika were nervous and thus impressed. This is what Ayami told many years later when she was on the live show of Yuika and former SG member Ida. An other venue related info, is that when Suzuka was the leader of SG, they attended Perfume at Budokan. This might have been the rise of Perfume and their first performance at such a bigger/important venue. Suzuka said she would lead the younger SG members to their spots in the audience (she was the oldest and leader), but it seems she got lost. Eventually to get their and immensely enjoyed the show. The chorographer of Perfume came from ASH and was also for Karen Girl's, Mini-Pati, SG. Perfume is her rise to fame. (ran out of time...)

Impressive ! You did really well a new fan, very detailed/deep and no big mistakes, etc. Just some missing context which is usually explained. Or sometimes you explained it in an unusual order, instead of chronological. You went deep into the 'fox hole'. Biggest things I would mention: Babymetal performed at Summer Sonic in 2012, so the year before in 2013 you mentioned. In 2012 they were the youngest ever to perform at the festival. They performed at not the smallest stage, but an even smaller 'side show' stage Which was for comedians, etc. at the food court. 1 video exists, look it up. This was before any band, etc. They didn't only end up on that stage before they were such a small artist (even in stature, except for Moametal of course, she isn't small ;-) ), but also because of scheduling problems, they were still part of Sakura Gakuin and had to practice (I assume for a big event). The reason they were part of the promotion of the Metallica Through The Never in Japan was because Babymetal met Metallica at Summer Sonic in 2013. The reason it happened was because Babymetal was wearing Metallica tribute shirts, the photographer, Ross Halfin, of Metallica's tour had noticed. Metallica's Lars wanted to take photos with Babymetal and because it was just before the performance, he came all the way to the other side of the festival to watch them perform (So the headliner went to the smallest stage). (Ross Halfin is one of the best known photographers in the industry). And Babymetal went to see Metallica perform on the big stage. Babymetal are busy bees (real/regular Japanese school, Sakura Gakuin, Babymetal) and this was actually their first metal live performance they witnessed (I'm certain their age mattered as well being allowed into venues). This is the performed Su-metal always quotes to really get a deeper understanding and the appeal of (live) metal music. Obviously I wouldn't have put everything in the video, but some of it would have added context. The festival organizer is a friend of Kobametal and he was asked to go to their first single-artist live show in at the famous, but small, Rock-May-Kan (so not as part of Sakura Gakuin). He was so impressed he wanted them for Summer Sonic, in 2017 Babymetal performed at the mainstage, before the headliner (Foo Fighters), this is the highest spot any Japanese artist can achieve, because a foreign act is always at the top to attract Japanese fans of that artist to the festival. Their was some hope among Babymetal fans Foo Fighters and Babymetal would do a collab and a collab between Foo Fighters, but instead Rick Astley and Foo Fighters happened (can't be mad, it was good fun, you can find videos online). That collab had world wide music press, so it's a missed opportunity for Babymetal to get that press (from a Babymetal fan perspective). Yui's message says she would want to return as Yui, she never said: solo artists, she just meant not as Yuimetal. Based on everything else she said in her message, I would say it could very well be she wants to return as an actress ('her other dream'), as she used to be a child-actress as well (you can see it in the Buttons-metal video: Collection of Yui Mizuno TV Clips Pre-SG + Caio Style). Whatever it is, we all hope she'll return to the spotlights soon, so we can cheer her on. In 2014 when they performed at Sonisphere in the UK, the festival organizer of Download tweeted that they would never perform at Download Festival, as you mentioned Dragonforce brought them as special guests on their show in 2015 (a day or 2 later they performed Road of Resistance, which they helped write, and Gimme Choco at a Metal awards show) and in 2016 Babymetal performed on the mainstage. I always liked what Herman Li said about RoR, 'faster than some of our songs'. Your face in a video: it works ! "You got talent kid." 🙂 Seriously, I'm impressed if this is your 3rd video.

My first suggestion for you is Band-Maid. An all female Hardrock band based in Tokyo started in 2013. Fun fact, they are dressed in Japanese Maid outfits (enhance the name Band-Maid). Apparently Yui was friends with Ayami Muto of Karen Girls. Or her family was friends with Ayami Muto's family. Ayami Muto was quite a bit older. For children. Ayami Muto was close with Suzuka Nakamoto when they were in Karen Girls and Sakura Gakuin. They were closer to the same age and Suzuka had all older sisters and was mature for her age. Ayami Muto was also very short so her and Suzuka seemed the same age. In the early Babymetal videos Suzuka is much taller than Yui and Moa and obviously looked at them like little sisters. Anyways, Yui probably got to meet all of Karen Girls because she knew Ayami Muto. Either that or because she was in the same talent agency. Or maybe she joined later on. Dunno. :)

Solid. A native Japanese speaker would pronounce "baby" like "beby" so, it would rhyme with "heavy". You'll find a lot of puns, alliteration, and other word play in almost everything that they do. The song "4 no Uta" is a great example of this.

New fans making "explanation" videos. Oy vey😂 I know I'm nitpicking but, here we go, don't take offense: It's Moa (moh-ah) not Mo. Moametal not Mometal. Yui (Yu-ee) not Yu. Momoko was born in Fukuoka and moved to Kanagawa. You have it backwards. And of course, the mislabeling of the song iine as "Line". Other than that, the only other "complaint" I have is that these "info" videos have already been done several times before. I, as well as the rest of The One, appreciate your effort though. I just feel, personally, that these new videos are quite unnecessary, as there are more concise, accurate and informative videos already out there. But I understand the fervor of a new fan. I was a new fan once too 😂. Babymetal becomes addictive and has a tendency to take over certain aspects of your life. Discovering Babymetal was a life changing experience for me, as well as it was for others in this fandom. Making lifelong friends from around the world in the Babymetal community has been the best experience of my life. Even as far as traveling to Japan, which is WAY out of character and out of my comfort zone as an introvert. I welcome you to The One. Welcome to the Fox family. You should really delve into Sakura Gakuin and discover why Su, Moa, Yui, and Momoko are so endearing to us OG fans who discovered Babymetal while they were still in Sakura Gakuin. I mean, if you're gonna go deep, GO DEEP. Kitsune up! 🤘🦊

Good job, as a new fan you have clearly done a lot of research and you didn't miss too many essentials I think. They did play 10 concerts at the Budokan in Tokyo over the first 3 or 4 months of 2021 as a part of their 10th anniversary celebrations. For those shows to happen they had to play to a half capacity crowd with other very strict rules and restrictions because of Covid and then they announced a hiatus starting in October 2021. A lot of fans thought that meant they were breaking up, so there was a lot of relief when they started releasing very short teasers of new songs in 2022 and then announced the concept album would be released in March 2023 after 4 or 5 new singles which were released roughly one a month.

I believe Koba said in an interview that they didn't make any money from the 10 shows because they didn't want to half ass the production that fans have come to expect.

BABYMETAL ceased to exist in the fall of 2017. It's been a pop group ever since. There's plenty of proof. Very sad. Huge waste of talent.
