Soap making video for the Soap Challenge Club June 2020 - One Pot Wonder: Advanced Category to use all natural ingredients with 5 layers.
Please always follow safety requirements while making soap! Sodium/Potassium hydroxide is caustic and can cause burns on skin or on mucous membranes!
This month's soap challenge looks quite simple but I think it is a test for the colour palette as well as the control of trace. Pouring all the soap in one pot and creating a feathering effect was the aim of the challenge. I also did another attempt and I don't think the feathering effect was as obvious compared to this one.
Make sure you use don't over blend for this technique and getting it to a medium trace might work it best.
The colourants I used in this video were:
Red -Red Clay
Orange, yellow - Tumeric Powder
Green - spirulina
Brown- Cocoa Powder
Essential oil blend: Rosemary, sweet orange and patchouli
Time links to the video:
0:18 Mixing of lye solution and oils
0:43 Adding essential oils
0:54 Splitting the batch into 5 equal portions
1:06 Colouring of the soap
1:47 Pouring each of the soap batter into pitcher
2:10 Pouring into the soap mould - one pot wonder technique
2:27 Decorating the top of the soap
2:43 Cutting the soap
2:58 Finished photo
My soap ended up with many stearic spots and the tumeric powder bled quite a bit. The feathering effect would have been better if my trace was slightly thicker, otherwise it is an interesting design! I'll definitely use this technique in the future!
Thank you Amy for organising such a challenge again. For more information about the Soap Challenge Club: soapchallengeclub.com/
