Soap making video for the Soap Challenge Club January 2021 - Crystal Salt Soaps.
Please always follow safety requirements while making soap! Sodium/Potassium hydroxide is caustic and can cause burns on skin or on mucous membranes!
For this soap, it is better to use coarse sea salt and you can choose to coat the sea salt with mica of your choice to change the colour. Marking your mould of you would cut your soap is also useful with designing your crystal soaps. Remember you need a medium to a thick trace for your soap to avoid moving the salts you have laid out.
The colourants I used in this video were:
Blueish grey - indigo powder in jojoba oil
Black - activated charcoal in jojoba oil
Essential oil blend: Grapefruit, tea tree and lavender

This technique gives such a rustic and beautiful look to the soap. I love how it looks like. But it is indeed quite messy to have the salts falling off here and there. It was a fun technique afterall. Remember to plane the soap on its side to avoid drag marks.
I am a soap hobbist so I don't buy my materials in large batches. I love shopping at iherb for my oils and essential oils. You may get a 5% discount through my link below:
