What happens when you're broke and cannot afford repeated copays to see more doctors for a condition that has no cure and poor treatment options? This is an absolute nightmare. I'm also punished for having a college degree. When you're sick YOU'RE SICK.

The criteria for disability insurance in America are flat-out insane. You basically have to become a motionless torso joke and by then, it seems to me, striving for longevity is pointless. Don’t mitigate loss early, when intervention might actually boost quality of life, but instead wait until there is no chance of a positive outcome and just pay the minimum support possible to ensure decades of misery. It makes no sense to me. I had quadruple bypass surgery at 57 followed by a severe surgical site staph infection that almost buried me. Now, facing a long recovery, I’m hearing that getting support from a system I paid into for more than 40 years is going to entail a knock-down, drag-out fight that likely will not provide me with benefits. And America wonders why suicide and mass shootings are through the roof. Why save the life if the remaining additional time gained is going to be spent doing battle with a bunch of bottom-of-the-bell-curve suits who mistakenly believe they’re better equipped to judge your situation than you are???

I have Ankylosis Spondylosis, and the one thing I remember vividly, L&I (Labors and Industries) said in the meeting with the Judge, L&I said they approve of my disability because they deem me a Liability in the workforce.

I have a friend who had an 8 disc fusion in her back. She also has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, nerve damage in her leg and memory issues due to a car accident. She has PTSD from being molested through her childhood and then being raped and held for 3 days when she was in her late teens. She is now 45 and with all her issues and conditions they denied her. I don’t care if she’s only 45, she CANNOT work!!! What does she have to do for SSD to recognize this? It’s ridiculous and now she’s depressed and suicidal. Is that what it’s going to take? I was told at 30 i could apply, and my various medical providers were upset i wouldn't. I wanted to wotk and pushed through for 2 more decades and have worked since i was 9. Now,i had to foot fused ,arthritis, osteoporosis, copd and degenerative disk disease and pretty sure POTS ,waiting on cardilogist for diagnosis. The lady i speak to at ssdi for the evaluation keeps saying if i have a hearing and if i have a medical exam. Is that bad, and they are just going to deny me ? I wish i could still work. My condition is undiagnosed, and I was told I'll never get a diagnosis. Am I screwed? I woke up one day and the right side of my entire body was numb. I was misdiagnosed with a high-grade glioma. Had a biopsy done (which left parts of the left side of my head numb) and it showed only necrotic tissue. I was told it might be related to treatment I had for cancer 27 years ago but that is vastly out of the range of typical long-term effects. My Neurologist said it's like something in my brain exploded and now it's dissipating. But I'm still numb. I'm 7 months into awaiting approval and my application has only recently passed 50%.

What is your opinion of the 4- year reviews for SSI? What should a person be mindful of to keep their benefits? What is usually done during these reviews? I am coming up for my 1st one later this year.

Sorry for being slightly off topic, but when you mentioned cognitive decline after covid. The place I work did not shut down (essential lol), hundreds of people, and we were not able to keep distance, but we were required to wear the cheap blue masks. Many people missed work due to covid, and it was like over the years we all just had a mild case at one time or another. The weird part is it seems like very quickly everyone started having memory problems. I'm 52 but it I work with people in the 30-60 range, and it's like at the exact same time everyone just started forgetting everything, I mean serious memory loss, even the younger ones. I keep pointing it out to people, and they agree. I have had physical problems with discs in my back for years and have learned to handle pain pretty well, but I'm very worried I'm quickly getting to the point I won't have the mental capacity to do my job. I'm wondering if covid caused memory problems in many people, and the doctors just aren't talking about it because they don't understand why. Are other people experiencing this?

I just called the SSA office today for my SSDI case. The first representative told me I was approved. She read my file and said I should be getting paperwork in the mail soon. I called back to update phone number for SSA online profile. I asked again to be sure and a different representative stated that my medical records/information is still under review at this time. I got my ssdi 3 years ago for hidradenitis supporitiva. Unfortunately there is no cure or treatment. I have only antibiotics to prevent infection and cause cellulitis or bacterimia. They have agenda I waited over five years to get denied three times. Had five doctors write am 100% percent disabled but yet they denied me. I talked to a 79yr old homeless man with many health conditions he waited ten years to get his and now he waits for housing assistance a year into it still homeless our system is slammed and needs to change it's creating more problems. I have family she sent in for ssd only has bipolar and she was married. She got court date and decision all within 8 months and they denied her. My PCP is a navy doctor trained by the government but yet they take his words like their crap. So if a government trained doctor credentials are not good enough and my condition by his own words I can't work at all. Even writes me letters every month to give to dhs for food assistance. Even dhs is like go back to work their system can't handle people in the gray area like me. Now they cut my food off when I can't work my conditions are bad and still they denied. But think about it ten years of not working and if truly disabled and filing for ssd you can't work or get any income without the administration complaining. So it's ten years with out money unless you got family to pay for you then your stuck in the streets with no food. Ssd is a joke and the time frame it takes them to say approval or denied I could have sold tons of drugs and become a kingpin in the streets by the time you even get a decision. Money and food are two things people can't live without for too long but yet here we are system taking years and dening people who could use that money to help pump into the economy. They can't work and no money. If the government would actually help these people then the economy would be in a better place. Instead of denied disabled people living on the streets. I'm from Tennessee and I got diagnosed with stage 2 multiple myeloma I applied in August but had to much in my account so that held me up. Then after all the paperwork I sent in job history for ssi/disability my case worker says they want to do a mental evaluation next year when I'm suppose to go into surgery for a transplant and I will be in the hospital for month or more . I disagree with number one. Since birth brain damage caused or compromised my balance, fine finger dexterity, deformed my feet & legs, vision and more, all affecting my ability to walk so I fall A LOT! How will seeing doctors every month or whenever change or improve my cerebral palsy, fix my legs and feet, correct my congenital brain damage, correct my absent depth perception caused by said brain damage. Point is most of my disabling conditions are caused by continuing brain damage or muscular skeletal deformity, degeneration and associated cognitive autistic deficits for which no effective treatment exists. I got my ssdi notice of award sent to me showing I was approved. Official decision approval date was January 24, 2023. Notice of award states "You are entitled to monthly disability benefits beginning December 2022. Further, it states: "We found you became disabled under our rules on June 30, 2022." My question is since I was officially approved in 2023 with a disability onset date in 2022, was I eligible for up to the 2023 max amount or was I eligible for up to the 2022 max?

My hearing has been put off for about 5 or 6 months because of MY screw ups and I was certain I was going to lose them. I kept screwing up because my brain function, especially short term memory, have gotten REALLY bad but I have a pretty bad case of cirrhosis and those things can be side effects of it. The problem is it hasn't been diagnosed but what conversations they might have had with my doctors or what they've read coupled with my forgetting just about everything must have made it glaringly obvious. Nobody who needs benefits would allow themselves to screw up just about everything they put their hands on and I told them as much. A prime example is right now. I completely forgot what I was about to say and typed the same sentence twice. I'm not counting my chicken just yet but what makes me think I might be safe is three fold; they haven't told me to kick rocks, I opted to continue recieving benefits and immediately reapplied for my medicaid and a plan to insure I would get back what I lost without so much waiting since that's inevitable, and I forgot the other one but I said all of that to say that they allowed it, they stopped making me pay premiums and im actually getting that money back. I may be wrong but that screams approved in my mind. It's a damn good thing I hired a lawyer.
