i was 30 years old got crushed at a sawmill had 3 surgeons working on me, worked till i was 34 then the mill said they could no longer keep me i was a high risk , set me into deep depression i had been working from age 12 , had shrinks trying to get into my head , work comp people giving me test , they told me to sign up on SSDI , that the money I had been earning for the jobs I use to do, they had no place for me , I signed up for SSDI , 6 months and I got on with 6 months back pay , plus comp & the mill paid me a lump some of cash , i could not sue the mill i was under comp. I lost 80% use on my arms & back . people who do not know me and find out im on ssdi have a fit say i should be working at walmart as a meet & greet , I was earning 45 grand a year , Pay went to 15 grand on my SSDI , walmart pay 200 a week half of the ssdi a month . they must not understand the part i was crushed and i had worked from age 12 . No one wants a guy that's on weight limits 5# not even walmart .

Don't let them call it entitlement either. They owe you your disability check you worked and paid it in. Imagine if you had of paid the amount paid in weekly for private disability insurance. How much more would get each month. Entitlement my butt.

Seems to me SS works hard to keep you from getting full benefits. When I first applied I was eligible for ssdi but by the time I went through the process I only qualified for ssi. Worked since I was 14. Fell through the cracks of the system somehow. Now I get survivor benefits which is a joke because they cut my ssi so there was no point in applying for those survivor benefits after my husband died. Only got $255.00 death benefit. Ended up having to pay them back $200.00 for overpayment from back payments of survivor benefits. You would think SS could do proper math. $200.00 is a lot when you don't get much. Don't get me wrong I'm thankful for what I receive but the system needs a serious overhaul.

Anyone and everyone receiving SSI and or SSDI will be converted to SS Retirement upon reaching their personal retirement age which varies a bit from person to person based on their birthyear. Which means any and all benniits that were available will be altered to that which Retirement individuals get. The biggiest change will be to ones medical. Where as on use to get a 100 percent med coverage. Retirement individuals med plan is a 80 20 split. Thus where one is use to totally free, now is responsible for 20 percent.

So I get the bare minimum because I was disabled before I ever had any possibility of working. Our "GREAT" country can't even take care of its most vulnerable!? Cool! Awesome! I basically have 8 months left until I'm on the streets because I can't find anywhere else to live and I can only afford to rent rooms but apparently not even that anymore! I'm desperately trying to find limited income housing in California so I don't have to leave the one state I know as home and reestablish care in a new state with new laws.
@treyweeeee
@treyweeeee 2 жыл бұрын
@@mind_of_A I did that! Now I rent a room out of the back of a random business. The thing is, all of those options and the options that I have had to endure for 15 years and for probably the rest of my life as I see people not caring that so many people have more money than they could possibly need whereas people like me who really ought to be able to get at least poverty income not below poverty income like it was originally stated to be when social security was first enacted, It's just sad that these are the options I'm faced with. I've already been homeless, homeless shelters are actually worse than being on the street! If you don't believe me do research yourself that doesn't come from one source and isn't biased to one side. Obviously there are homeless shelters that do a lot of good, but, it doesn't expunge the bad that exists. Also, after recovering from homelessness from 2013 to 2015 I have now accumulated a small rooms worth of stuff, call me conceited or materialistic but I kind of want to keep the small amount of belongings I have instead of being ripped away from everything that I have been able to slowly accumulate so far. So again, excuse me for being a bit distraught that I can't even get half of what people make just because I was literally born with my disabilities. But whatever, totally fair system! Also, just fyi, I'm on disability for a legitimate reason and the reason why I can't live in an RV or in shelters anymore is because I need better personal Care tied to my medical Care than those living situations can provide. It would be legitimately more humane for somebody to give me the same treatment you would give a dog versus living like that.

The thing is, every time you have to move, switch doctors, hospitals, etc. you have to go through being rediagnosed for everything you have been diagnosed with. This is a legal thing because if you go from doctor A to doctor B in a new state, if doctor B takes doctor A's word from patient files and previous diagnosis, if the diagnosis is wrong and ends up causing harm to the patient, they can sue and then both doctors A&B are held liable. But here's my problem. I DO NOT have the health to go through being rediagnosed for everything and have to have a gap in the plethora of medications that I have to take to be able to NOT fall apart and possibly almost probably worse. So if I can't figure out a way to get to stay in this area I'm MORTIFIED at the aspect of having to move somewhere where I have to go through this again when the last time I had to... Well that's too much information, just take my word; it was bad. But the thing is I can't find ANYWHERE to live on my type of SSI income because I was disabled before being able to make work credits for any better payout. So I get less than the intended minimum regular people get. 14 years ago, to rent a room from a house was only a few hundred dollars depending on a number of factors. But now I'm seeing rooms being rented for the same price my house costed me to rent. I can't afford that but these SAME people wants first month's AND second months rent WITH last month's rent, deposit, pet deposit if applicable, to make 4 times the monthly rent a month, ridiculous rules, terrible restrictions, ect. Really, it's over the top. Also, the sheer amount of money that they are asking for would be ILLEGAL for me to have since these people are forcing you to have to pay so much and earn so much but in reality, people who are on my type of income can't have $2,000 or more in monetary worth. So, IDK what to do because NOWHERE will take a chance on me even though I'm not anywhere near a bad tennant. But yeah, I think me wanting to keep my healthcare is important and valid but I have to move where I can afford to but I can't afford ANYWHERE in the US, I've been putting out at least 20 applications for 2Years now! I'd love to live in Washington, or Oregon, or Maine, or, well, honestly I'm not picky but there are certain states I do have to pass up because they don't have the ability to take care of me medically, they don't have income protection, or other legal protections from bigotry and hatred. Again, there are SO many more places I'd rather be but I'm poverty stricken, but I've been trying but I don't make 1/3rd as much I need to to survive. I don't know what is going to happen. I'm quite scared because I can't see this in anyway getting any better unless we realize how backwards our actions are and that we've had the ability to elicit real challenge that would benefit everyone in the short term AND long term. I don't know but these Western Imperialist ideologies are not working. But yeah. Again, I agree with you, I just don't have the health, the money, or the connections to move anywhere I need to or want to.

In addition, anyone receiving SSI or SSDI when reaching legal age of retirement which causes a bit per ones age. Will be relabeled as retired and there previous SSI or SSDI bennifits will be changed to that of retirement. Which in total gives less bennifits than SSI and or SSDI. One of which and the most dramatic is the medical bennifits. SSI and or SSDI pay nothing for any form of medical and or medicines, retired individuals, thanks to Obama, are mandated to maintain a medical policy, the cheapest of which is Medicare at 105 bucks a month, which is an 80/20 package. For those use to having total FREE. Coverage as they did on SSI and SSDI. That's a big but to handle.

@@EL-kf8nq How much does one on SSDI pay out of pocket for any type of medical coverage. How much does one on SS pay out of pocket for medical coverage. As a retired person, I'm responsible for 20 percent. Those on SSDI don't pay a dime. Not to mention, various states have bennifit for those on SSDI but not those on SS. Because my retirement check is considerable higher, I don't qualify for most state bennifits. If it's true and a picture says a thousand words, then your retort is a bit short.

Yes sometimes it takes a while. Those who have never had to try it have no idea of the stress and whoops one has to go through. But you have no other options when your in need of it and someone behind a desk decides. If you didn't need it your certainly wouldn't put yourself through such trevail. This is how whacky ss is. My sister has six brain tumors and three are cancer. She is legally blind. And a host of other issues and all of the sudden they took her check still don't know why. She is in the process of getting it back when it never should have been taken in the first place. Anyone who hasn't dealt with ss doesn't have a clue how it works. They do this type of thing all the time to people. You can lose your benifits at anytime for any reason they see fit. It's a shame.

This explanation doesn’t have a lot of logical points in it. What I mean by that is your parents can literally collect SSI because of your disability at birth. Because of that the whole age thing doesn’t make any sense at all because in that case you’re not the one applying, your parents are. And people wonder why SS light has no money. In my opinion they need to stop letting people apply for SSI just because their children are born disabled. They should have to wait until their child is a certain age before they even consider it and even then they shouldn’t be allowed to use any of the money because it’s not theirs.
