Gave a thumbs up for sharing your excellent thoughts. We all go through the same dilemmas everyday. I probably have over 100 low to midrange end casios and feels like hoarding. Too much of time caring for these. Thanks again for clearing up my mind

Cutting down the collection is the right move, many collectors need to be careful that the "stuff" they own, doesn't eventually end up owning them!
@zaygezunt4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for being honest. You went from a focused collector to an obsessive collector. It's easily done, especially if you really love what you collect. Apart from the thrill of the 'find', you then have that wonderful feeling when the package arrives and the satisfaction of placing it with your other treasures. Eventually, that becomes like a routine and then a comfort. With more discipline you will love your collection more and find new ways of appreciating the individual watches. You are not alone!!

Thanks for the kind words, yes, discipline is the word, even though it is a hobby, there has to be even a little of that.

This is a really helpful insight for someone like me who’s starting to get into vintage watches. Thank you!Im enjoying your videos esp the generous tips such as this one, giving us your watchers a glimpse of your head space as someone who’s in this level of collection. Inspiring to say the least. More power to your channel.

Thanks Luisa, I am happy when new people join the hobby. Cheers.

Very wise. All your reasons coincide with mine, actually. Finally, you concentrate on particular line of watches you want to collect. As for me, I decided to collect VINTAGE GADGET WATCES with literally any function there is: from cigar light to SEIKO TV WATCH( my precious)))

I think most of us watch collectors have gone through this at some point, I know I have. After years of collecting I looked at my collection and realized that with a handful of exceptions the watches I enjoy the most are the ones that were around and new in my childhood in the late sixties and through the seventies, specifically the 1970´s. I am a child of the quartz/battery powered revolution so I have given away a large amount of my collection that does not fit into that catagory ( I hate selling and much prefer simply to give watches to friends that I no longer where, I simply cannot be bothered going through all the hassle of selling) New watches have very little interest to me as whenever I think about spending money on new I realize I can get something of far higher quality that is vintage. So a large part of my collection now are battery powered watches from the seventies and I have never been more happy. I know that genre is not that popular but for me the watches I now have are all the ones I dreamed of owning as a child but obviously could not afford at the time so it brings back so many memories of dreaming of these watches.

I can SO understand your reasoning, having gone through those troubles myself. One problem in particular, that you haven't mentioned is: buying (and holding on to) watches, that you THINK you'll never find again "in this condition". Even though the excitement about that exact watch has worn off long ago... I keep so many pieces in my collection, that I have no real attraction to anymore, just because my head tells me that I'm "going to miss it as soon as it's gone and feeling dumb and sad about it" - because it happenend before... If only we could spot any real collector, who loves those things as much as we do, so we KNOW for a fact, the pieces we sell to them will be in good care, it would be so much easier. We need to stop thinking, we're the best that could have happened to a rare piece, because there ARE others out there, who care just as much (if not more) :D

This is a problem that I have to overcome. I'm new to collecting digital watches but I've collected other things in the past & I've bought stuff just because I think I should have it. I'm going to force myself to be far more discerning with this new venture.

Downsizing a collection is a good thing, I can relate to the whole time vs enjoyment factor and then feeling a sense of commitment to the watches you need to fix or restore, I did this with old cars! I decided about 2 months ago with my watch collection not to buy anymore until I've fixed or sorted the ones I currently have and there's about five new watches sitting awaiting to be looked at already, so keeping away from EBay and Buyee for now. Spent most of tonight fixing and cleaning a Seiko A914 that I got 3 years ago! Great video and look forward to future ones. 🙂

Thank you for the comment and thoughts. Keeping away from eBay is something I am not quite ready to do :) as I still have some grails to look for and will not pass them up. However fixing my left over backlog is a good idea and likely to set a target a month for it (2 watches a month..). Cheers, Tibi.

@@VintageDigitalWatches Sounds like you're on the right track. Ebay is a dangerous place and its always so tempting to buy more watches! Cheers

I fully understand your reasoning my friend. I may find myself facing the same decision soon but will make sure there is a video review on my Casio channel before letting a watch go. Now lets see some more of those beauties I see on the shelves behind you.

I think you are correct but it is very difficult for me to part with my watches and I felt very identified with your arguments, in fact I also have 3 identical watches because I fell in love with that model. I found your points very interesting to get rid of them and I will try to implement them in mine.
@VintageDigitalWatches4 жыл бұрын
I feel you, was not easy to decide which will have to go but I managed to find the reasons in the video.
@undamned4 жыл бұрын
You did the right thing and you will likely appreciate what you have even more. Your points are excellent and very applicable to many collection-related hobbies. My collection is much smaller, but I've been undergoing a similar filtering process. As you mentioned in some ways, each piece should have a reason for being in the collection. As I organized, I realized I had some watches that looked so similar when placed next to each other, it was hard to justify having both of them.

When i started collecting i bought a load in first couple of years but last year i bought 2 watches. I ran out of watches i liked so just stopped and wont buy something for say 150 euro when i can be patient and snap one up for say 50 euro and buy a new case and strap. Also if a watch doesn't appear on ebay for say a year then comes up, the bids get ridiculous on it. Possibly the next year several of the same watch turn up and bids are halved. So be careful dont rush a buy, keep checking ebay and you then see whats the bargain. (usually the ones that just need a new battery but thats the chance you take).

Hi, Great channel. Can you suggest where i could send my vintage casio for repair? I have 2 very good condition j51w running man, both have an issue - i think the same. I suspect the contacts for one of the red front buttons is in constant contact preventing the other buttons from working - but i dont have the skills to repair it. Anyone in the uk able to solve this?
