Cool Thanks Maestro Quincy This fits in perfectly with where I’m back as I’m just got Tommy Igoes Lifetime charts up to advanced. Chk him out doing it 190 . Very beautiful. He also ( yeah ) includes a flam speed up & slow down in & then out of the flam rudiments section which includes Flam accent aka flam accent . Try his flam combo smile . My fav rudiments , the ones it took me the longest and hardest to get good . Paradiddle variations. Single triplet rolls . & all of them 😂 but love if say 5 stoke roll in 16 ths accents in 1/4 can be a triplet phrase . Btw love 6 stroke roll with accents on the end . Diddle rudiments always great . How about a double paradiddle in 3/4 phrased triplet like . And of course singles & doubles . Are drummers forgetting the importance of great sounding doubles especially open ones ? Thanks again

I get so frustrated with rudiments to the point that I don’t want to play them anymore. Now, after watching your video, I know that I have to relearn them and practice them patiently to become a better drummer. What’s a drummer that can’t play rudiments very well… a bad drummer. Thanks for showing me that it takes a lot of patience and a lot of work.

Hi Quincey, great lesson as usual. As far as rudiments, I've (before dislocating my thumb... so hard to be off pad!) been playing flams and I'm really enjoying playing them between accents. An exercise I like is playing flam-4's and moving the accent across the grid while keeping the flaps on the 1. Then, you can move the flam around while keeping the accent on the 1. Similar to pretty common paradiddle exercises where we move the accent around keeping the sticking consistent, not sure who to credit. The way we can play 8th notes and move the accent around while keeping a consistent flam really opens up a new dimension. Polyrhythms are possible when the flam isn't attached to accents. Playing an accent every four strokes and a flam every five strokes is a ton of fun. I wish I had been into this years ago!

In terms of favorite rudiments to solo with, there's particular application of the flam tap I learned from Philly Joe that I've always liked. The flam is played as a quarter note, and the tap is an 8th. I think I first heard it from one of his fours on "Billy Boy." It's a nice way of implying 3 over 4. Great stuff as always!

Know a Myles Jones? (sorry but that named pre-distined you for music). This lesson is gold. My favorite rudiments on the kit - 6 stroke roll, started with the right hand on the second rack tom,, accented, then finished lightly (almost dragged) on the snare. I use it to start a fill. Also, for a short burst of high intensity ride cymbal I'll use a paradiddle played near the bell with the right hand, and the left hand parts on the snare, ghosting all but the back beat. Matching the kick to the cymbal hits is optional. And you ask what rudiments we heard - I heard you player hertas a couple times.
