Just to clarify the forbidden jutsu thing because the dub kind of makes this a bit confusing. The forbidden jutsu that naruto learned in episode 1 is specifically the "multi-shadowclone jutsu", there's 2 clone jutsu used in the leaf village (mostly), those are the "clone jutsu" and the "shadowclone jutsu", normal clones are just illusions with no physicality, shadowclones are physical but take more chakra. The "multi-shadowclone jutsu" is forbidden specifically because of the immense amount of chakra it takes to make that many clones. The only reason naruto can do it at all is because of the amount of chakra he has. We see jonin using the normal shadowclone jutsu (making one or a few shadowclones), but naruto is using the forbidden "multi-shadowclone jutsu" making a ton of clones.

let me clarify a few things.. firstly, a Jutsu is deemed forbidden when it meets one of the following parameters; That it is unethical (Reanimation) That it can kill the user by spending way too much chakra (Multi-Shadow Clone) or that it does outright kill the user. (Reaper Death Seal) secondly, Orochimaru has used forbidden Jutsu to transfer his consciousness permanently to a new body, meaning he is young again and just as powerful as he was at that age, while having the knowledge and skill that he has gained over his life. such a terrifying advantage.

Naruto was close to being gaara. However for Naruto he was weak and couldn’t do much, so he did other things to get attention. Naruto got extremely lucky because he found people like shikimaru and iruka, people who lessened his loneliness. Whereas gaara got no love, no attention except fear, and never had his loneliness lessened. And the change of heart you see in gaara that seems kinda abrupt happens immediately after his brother and sister step in to protect him. Allowing gaara to realize he had an opportunity to feel that with the people around him and he never realized it.

keep in mind that people would watch these episodes weekly, so there's an expectation that people can't remember things from one week to another that easily. That's why you keep seeing almost every episode shifting back to the Hokage struggling to take Orochimaru's soul out. When binging it seems like a glaring repeat, but when you take this additional context into account, it starts to make more sense.

Well I wouldn't say Gaara and Naruto had different reactions as kids. More that their emotional response had different results. Naruto didnt really have any power, but he also got angry, while Gaara just by getting angry could result in the sand adding to the body count

So the reason sarutobi was alarmed when orochimaru peeled his face to reveal that young face; he essentially found a way to cheat death by molting his body the way a snake does. Hence why his summons are snake themed. Where as jiraiya is the toad sage, orochimaru can be seen as the snake sage where he learned their secrets.

I dont think kid gaara (from the flashbacks) could control the sand. Seems like the sand acted out on its own, responding to gaaras emotions.

So Shukaku is a tanuki, a raccoon dog native to Japan. This and his sleep deprivation are why Gaara has dark rings around his eyes, similar to a tanuki.

Permanent insomnia = insanity = people hating and being afraid of a 5 year old. He's never felt pain so I'm not even sure he really understood that what he did was hurting and killing people? At least not when he was that young. He even tried to make it better with bringing medicine to the kid he hurt when Yashamaru explained pain to him. I think the reason why Shukaku twisted Gaara so much was that because he was sealed into a fetus the seal warped as he grew. Honestly I'm wondering if they could have adjusted the seal like what Orochimaru did with Naruto (sealed it tighter so no fox chakra would leak out), and saved everyone a whole lot of bloodshed. Or imagine if his family was actually kind to him...idk man. Temari and Kankuro have been terrified of him literally since he was born and he wasn't even a killer at that point. Also pointing out that Gaara's father did not stop trying to assassinate him ever since that attempt by Yashamaru. It fucks a kid up for sure lol. The funeral scene is such a gut punch, Naruto's eyes are so dead. All the little moments with the 3rd Hokage playing as they place their flowers...oof. Next arc goes absolutely crazy, can't wait for you to see it!

Should have retitled Forbidden Jutsu to High-risk Jutsu for the ones like Shadow Clones (since it splits your chakra evenly with the clones) to make them more distinguished.

I think you are the one of the best Naruto reactors. Too many people just sort of sit there and occaisonally cheer and never share their thoughts. If you are curious about exploring all the background for Kishimoto's influence in constructing Naruto here is a sort of guide. When Kishimoto first proposed Naruto, he intended it as an homage to Dragonball. Naruto was originally a Goku homage. It was the story of a little fox kit who is lonely and transforms into a little boy and journeys down into a nearby town to make friends. He becomes an apprentice ramen chef and finds a rival there (that was the prototype for Sasuke). Its important to note that Kishimoto built Naruto from there with Naruto and Sasuke as co main characters. Naruto's insanely overpowered shapechanging ability is a leftover from this early conception of Naruto when he was a kitsune spirit. The Shonen jump editors told him it was a good idea but he needed to jazz it up. Kishimoto was a big fan of kaiju movies and 1980s ninja movies. So he added giant monsters and 1980s style ninjas (if you watch 1980s ninja movies they have all sorts of magic powers that they use hand signs to do). Kishimoto then built Naruto's back story out over the course of the arcs pre time skip (in the manga there is just a time skip, in the anime, its split at that point between Naruto and Naruto Shippuden). Over time he added elements from the following in if you want to read stuff -Dragonball (you have already seen elements of this like InoShikaCho and so forth) -1980s Ninja movies -Kaiju movies -The Sannin (Jiraiya, Orochimaru and Tsunade) come from an old Japanese kabuki play called The Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant, which itself is based on an even old folk tale called Jiraiya the Toad. The Sannin are adapted with a sort of Japanese satire that is actually a tribute to them. There is an awesome silent black and white depiction of The Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant on youtube, though you may have to dig to find it. Its from the 1920s. -Shinto (the religion) -Samsara Buddhism -Chinese Folklore and Mythology -Yu Yu Hakusho -Hinduism -Japanese Buddhism you are correct that Monkey King Enma is based on Sun Wukong. He is named Enma in this after the deity from Japanese Buddism, Enma, which is basically the Japanese name for King Yama, the deity from mainland Chinese Buddhism who derives from the Hindu deity Yama. Monkey King Enma is an early Naruto homage to King Yama from Dragonball and King Enma from Yuyu Hakusho. Note, it becomes apparent later if you go back and rewatch Naruto after watching Shippuden,but Sasuke and especially Naruto are absurdly powerful for their ages but relatively undertrained at least until Kakashi started training them. Note 2 - That moment when Gamakichi basically lied to his dad about being bullied by Shukaku and had Naruto's back is when the fandom began to love Gamakichi. Note 3 - the blue/purple haired female is an ANBU named Uzuki Yugao. Her code name is Neko. In the light novels she was one of the ANBU who protected Naruto when he was a little kid. Gekko Hayate was her fiance (hes the ninja that overheard Baki and Kabuto talking that Baki killed). Edit Note 4 - Originally Orochimaru was not going to be introduced until after the Konoha Krush arc. The editors wanted Kishimoto to put him in starting with the Chunin exams. So Kishimoto decided he had to bring Jiraiya in early, but so much of the arc had been constructed that he sort of wedged Jiraiya in

It's funny how they hate Gaara for something he had no control over. His mom was too weak when she gave birth, not his fault. They put Shukaku when he was a baby, not his fault. Same for Naruto with Kyuubi. This is beyond dumb.

For Naruto episode 1 being capable of using a forbidden jutsu does undercut forbidden jutsus especially since they don't explain WHY shadow clone is forbidden until Shippuden so to give a best non-spoiler explanation. Naruto is the exception to the jutsu (shocking I know) because of an inherent trait in him. If Sakura or even Sasuke were to at this point even attempt the jutsu the price of using it would most likely hinder them rather than help and could possibly kill them if they took it too far I believe. As we saw with the 3rd Hokage he used it and while hurt and no longer in his prime he summoned 2 and multiple people around him commented on how this was shortening his life span.

So ironically, Kakashi was wrong about Sasuke's limit. No one realized this, but Sasuke actually used 3 Chidori. First one was on the demo, then second was when he was trying to exit Gaara hole and then that first one in the forest.

Yeah, the permanent insomnia makes sense as to why he would be unstable, and then add to that the psychological scars from childhood and it compounds on the insomnia and vice versa

we weren’t shown this, but from the context it is clear that they tried to kill Gaara many times before the incident with uncle Yashamaru, which is why he has such a reaction to the hatred of others. guilt for the death of his mother, the hatred of his father and those around him, the indifference of his brother and sister, the betrayal of his only close relative, of course, battered his young psyche so much that he carved the word “love” on his forehead as a child, but yeah, you ain’t sorry for him 😂

The difference between Naruto and Gara is Naruto’s 9 tails had a special seal that had only one key to be completely released. Plus he never knew he had it. Gara always knew and he knew people hated him for it on top of having a strong influence from the 1 tail.

Its not a horrible point, but to be fair. MANY of the academy students, never become genin. While the chunin exams are a massive part of the social contracts between nations, it would be like cancelling kindergarten classes because of the olympics.

Shuriken never do anything (visible) for a reason. Even irl throwing stars or knives were used mostly to force your opponent to either block or dodge while you close the gap for close quarter combat. So it makes sense that Naruto and his clones used a bunch of them when bum rushing gaara so they don't get countered by one of his hands or sand shuriken.

Gaara is such an amazing character. With "love" tattoed on his head, where he could never see it until he meets his mirror in Naruto. The difference bw Naruto and Gaara and how they turned out is basically cuz of the ppl around them esp Iruka for Naruto. Yashamaru, Gaara's uncle was never able to overcome the hate against him, but Iruka a stranger overcame his hate for the nine tails brat, and that's where their story deviates.

Orochimaru and Jiraiya are 50/51 during this arc. Hiruzen is only 68/69 Orochimaru is probably my favorite villain of Naruto because of how he just is pure chaos. He has his own reasonings for doing things. Like, he could have easily just taken Sasuke and not started a war, but he did because he was bored.

EDIT: I wrote this before Bunta explained shukaku and you understood, feel free to read it if youre interested, its basically just a spoiler free comparison between Naruto and Gaara and how they turned out different with similar upbringings. Huge reason why Naruto didn't become like Gaara is the difference in seals. Gaara's is much weaker so him and the monster are constantly fighting in his head, like how Gamabunta was talking about the Shukaku's host having eye bags because they can't go to sleep. Naruto's seal didn't let practically any of the fox's chakra out before his pure rage at zabuza, and then it was barely more than a wisp that would empower him but barely more than that. He barely got control of a small amount of chakra after jiraiya slightly weakened his seal and removed the 5 prongs seal from orochimaru. Basically Naruto had no inkling of why he was hated, and had no monster power to perpetuate that fear and empower his childish tantrums so he resorted to clowny acts to get attention. Gaara always had a murderous hateful voice in his head, and if he fell asleep it would control his body to rampage.

the reason forbidden jutsu are forbidden, is because they risk causing harm to the user (via too much chakra drain) and/or an inhumane amount of harm on the target, they are like war crimes irl. another criteria for a forbidden jutsu are ones that break the natural order, (like reanimating the dead.)

When Orochimaru had summoned the 1st & 2nd Hokage and was enroute to summoning a third dead person Hiruzen himself got nerved(and scared) thinking that Orochimaru was going to summon the 4th as the third corpse(and infact Oro was trying to do the same but couldn't because the 4th’s soul was sealed inside Shinigami).

Orochimaru can use his creepy abilities to make the body take his usual form, but it's still the body of the person he stole regardless of how it appears on the outside. What this means in practice is that if the body has some genetic advantage, he gains that advantage. If he takes Sasuke's body, he will have full access to Sasuke's Sharingan eyes. He could simply take Sasuke's eyes, but that would be far inferior because Sharingan eyes expend far more chakra when used by someone who is not gentically a Uchiha. That's why Kakashi has to use his sharingan sparingly and keep it covered when he is not using it, otherwise he would run out of chakra very quickly.
