Slo Mo with Mo Gawdat

Slo Mo with Mo Gawdat

Күн бұрын

This week, I speak with John Butler in what may be the most genuinely Slo Mo episode to date. Recorded in Bakewell Parish Church, a place filled with prayers of the hopeful going back over a thousand years, this conversation is an honest perspective and retrospective on the purpose of our existence, and nothing less.
John Butler has been practicing meditation for nearly 60 years. Now in his eighties - a self-proclaimed 'little boy with a grey beard' and humbled back into innocence, he shares his insights with the world on a KZfaq channel that now has over 200,000 subscribers. He has also published 8 books, to describe his amazing life in search of spiritual perfection - details on his website.
"Who am I, but just one more of those who, since time began, have walked the hills and gazed upon the stars? When we, with heart outstretched, feel close to God, it's safer to be humble than to think we know. Experience, however, is given to be shared. While others receive otherwise, each part unique, though incomplete, contributes to the whole."
Listen as we discuss:
- Why John doesn't consider himself wise or a teacher, and thus avoids a slippery slope.
- How defining meditation has deterred us from its aims.
- Two things in the world that have no limit.
- Silence is a good practical approach to the infinite.
- How the journey inward often begins when life shakes us up.
- John's story from farmer to reluctant KZfaq sensation.
- Everything in the world works under perfect law.
- Looking back on life as an old person.
- Why we feel ourselves divided.
- Why the word "happy" feels too small.

His writings and YT channel is a gift to humanity. He brings hungry souls back to God and out of this dimension of delusion and suffering. Thanks Mo and John. 🙏🙏💞💞😊😊

Mo, it touched my heart deeply to observe you during this conversation. What I saw, was the version of Mo as little boy talking to the elder that life put on your path for a brief moment. It was lovely to see the child within the former CEO of the world. Thank you for talking to John it was a beautiful episode; and a necessary one.

This year its being a real revelation to me, I stoped my insatiable human need of love and recreation in relations-ships that go nowhere, those romantic and non-romantic, without knowing that I, little by little ostracized myself and started seeing and caring for my way of thinking and doing, this podcast really felt deep and in resonance to what I started feeling and founding lately, I know is a journey yet to reveal me lots of things but looking back I can see that, that part when he talks about failures that evoke somewhere where you just need to be, turns out to be true at any instance in life if you just can take a moment and do some retrospect to then realize so... we are in the moment and place we need to be always, even if today feels like the wrong or the failure, it is just fine and well. thank you lots John for your insights and thank you Mo for sharing them to be found for those whom need it.

Really wonderful interview 😇 John is a beautiful example of how surrendered an Enneagram type 6 can become (my own egoic propensity also). They embody “FAITH” just by being in their essence. The silence. The stillness… Stillness was always going to be something drawn to John as he journeyed further down the spiritual path, it is what we need for our growth just as much as Enneatypes 1’s & 2’s do also. I asked my meditation teacher 20 years ago “what’s the point of having Beings in life that dedicate themselves to meditate throughout their existence?” as I battled to still my own mind. Her answer is one I’ll always remember… “They bring a lot of light to the world” 🌱🧘🌸

Well done. A very nice video. John and I have been friends for many years and when I lived in Bakewell, at my request when I was a troubled young man he pointed the way and helped guide me towards the stillness. A journey which never ends and ever deepening to this day.

Why is this interviewer such an appeasing people pleaser I find his schmoozing interviewing style not too appealing Yes John does look 80 or more Yes some teachers like to be thought of as teachers Why does he try appeasing constantly so not to cause the slightest offence where there wouldn't have been any? No
