Not to diss in Eric in anyway, but if your looking for most instructive definitely watch some of naroditsky’s speedrun. A lot longer games so he goes more in depth on every move and does in depth analysis afterwords as well.

This series is the most I've learned about chess since I was told how the pieces move. Sure, play the fundamentals, but ALSO how to understand threats and diffuse or punish them. The idea that EVERY opponent move could be a threat is just so key.

18:48 Giving a check with the queen looked very appealing, taking away castling right and crippling white's development while having easy development for black's bishops. Black would be likely to win back the center pawn shortly after, too.

Thank you for these instructional videos. I have watched videos, read books and played a lot of games but I repeat the same blunders. I have lay rapid except in OTB tournaments because I try to take time between moves but mostly wonder what am I supposed to be thinking? What am I supposed to be looking for. Your videos explain that. You do not rush through potential moves but rather detail candidate moves and consequences of each. Sincerely, you have taught me to be a much better player and I thank you. Happy New Year

Happy holidays. Sometimes at this time of year it's nice to give one big gift but stocking stuffers are nice too. A stocking stuffer is a small inexpensive toy like a dreidel or a spinning top. You deliver a bunch of them say in a something hung by the chimney place with care in the hopes that St Nick will soon be there. That was fun. Thanks Eric.

Ahh... the Legal trap. Learned it earlier this year and immediately saw it in my games since I play Italian. Which means I probably have come across the Bg4 many times before I learned the trap. Now I turn it into a win and after I learned it. This and the fried liver occur more often as I've seen while playing Italian.

MERRY CHRISTMAS ERIC! Can you make a beginner/ intermediate Ruy Lopez video? Maybe system-based, or a few different systems (eg. Anti-Berlin against Berlin, maybe the same style setup against all closed Ruy Lopez variations) just to make the Ruy Lopez a bit simpler and easier to play. Thanks, and again, Merry Christmas Eric!

I had not seen the Legal checkmate before. I'm going to have to spend some time on that. In game 3, instead of c3, I think Qe2 looks good. It removes the pin, and if black wants to trade on f3, it opens the g file for white's king's rook. White of course can castle queen's side or leave the king in the center, as conditions warrant. If black declines to trade, then h3, followed by g4 gets a pawn assault on the black king's defense going.

10:30 After 10.Bxf6, Black can avoid the quick mating attack with 10...h6 and 11...Kh7. White would still have a winning game. 9.Bxf6 wins a clear piece. Interestingly, the engine prefers the 9.Nxf6+ line, though most humans would find it easier to win up a whole piece than "only" this much better position with equal material.

whenever i see the tiktok garbage, i play Be7. I've figured out the lines to refute it over the board, and checked it against engine later. Best is to bait white to sac on f7 and develop quickly. With best play from white black gives back the piece but black is still completely winning.
