Timestamps and takeaways for our benefit. 0:00 White vs French Defense (Tarasch variation) : Development and center control. Black should play c5 in these positions. 10:30 Black vs Nimzo Larsen: Develop normal and classically vs the Hippo, maintain the space advantage, aim to open a line 19:57 Queen's Gambit Declined (Cambridge Springs): Feel good opening trap. Prioritize defense in the middle game when up material. 28:06 White vs Sicilian (Delayed Alapin): Expanding with tempo, knocking pieces around. Check > capture tactic.

Frankly I'm more of a sledgehammer than a rapier guy! A trait of advanced drivers is that they are passed by as many cars as they pass, which makes me a good chess player! A cat's motto is, when in doubt wash. (h/t Paul Gallico.) So, when in doubt attack! I have learned from you to keep looking for winning tactics and to take every opportunity to push pieces north.

Have a happy new year, and thank you very much for your definition of "initiative," which I usually think about as asserting one's vague idea of what should happen in the future, regardless of any temporary attacks. In my understanding it was possible theoretically for a player defending to have the initiative. Your definition is more consistent with the way most people use the word, I'd say.

Love how much this episode combines opening theory, is littered with helpful principles, and helps to see traps and strong attacks! My coach has recently been showing me the value of pawn sacrifices, when other principles are followed well early on. Happy to see how much this series is transforming beyond cozy friday night vibes, into deeper sharp educational play! Or maybe it's just that my understanding is getting much better, from my 1 on 1 lessons.

Hi Eric, not sure if you'll see this, but are there cases in the Cambridge Springs where Ba3 is a threat? Kind of similar to the London trap you've shown in a few videos when white gets Ba6 (for instance in your Andrea Botez London Lesson Video)? I feel like there should be as it seems to be an almost mirror image of that position but I can't seem to get it to work. Thanks!

25:20 my instinct is to play Qd5 here to try and trade the Queens while also defending against their main threat when I'm a piece up. Maybe white has Qg4 to refuse the trade and I haven't looked any deeper because it isn't my game. But I'd be looking to see if I can continue attacking the queen while developing in that line before committing to Qd5. I'm mostly just curious why you never mentioned or seemed to consider Qd5 at all @Eric Rosen

He’s played the f-pawn after castling kingside in earlier games in this speedrun as well, to grab the f-file with the rook. In this case I think it was the opponent’s g4 move that led him to think in terms of checkmating with the rook and queen.
