What most people forget is that this movie is probably going to make a crap ton of money. Sonic fans will see it to see how it turned out. Sonic haters will watch it to rant. Let's not kid ourselves, even though they fixed Sonic's design, the story looks pretty cliche. You could replace Sonic & Eggman with anything else and it would barely make a difference. Which is all the more reason to go and see it so they can fix all that in the sequel! And if there is a sequel: - Keep it in Sonic's world, maybe have it where Sonic brought Eggman there to protect Earth - Bring in Tails, and maybe Knuckles - Have the plot revolve around getting the chaos emeralds - Bring in Metal Sonic as a new threat - Super Sonic final battle - Have an after-credits scene teasing team dark in a third movie - Make a third movie

Hey movie has had a lot of attention put into it, so even if It kinda gets to 30 mil in opening weekend, it's probably still gonna make big bucks.

I totally agree with you. I think people are playing the wait and see game with this one. I think people have been burned too many times and aren't that confident in how companies handle their beloved I.Ps. People also may have in their mind this is the same company that thought the first design was a good idea so the confidence has to be somewhat earned back and the redesign was definitely a step in the right direction. At least the places I looked, the Sonic stadium forums and the Sonic Reddit, I don't actually remember seeing many people demanding a redesign. I saw a lot of people saying "I could do better", and taking to image editing software to rework the first trailer's art, and indeed with less horrific results than that first trailer gave us, but all that proves is that there's a lot of really dedicated Sonic fanartists online, which we knew already, and at least some of those fanartists are talented. What the first trailer got was mostly mockery; not demands. If Sonic fans ever had any sense of entitlement to good Sonic stuff, then it almost certainly was dispelled years ago, many times over. Now, many fans are just jaded, with no expectation of getting good things, and fine with mocking Sonic things that displease them, and then, of course, you have the people who DON'T like Sonic who do exactly the same. When the above two start to say the same stuff, they're loud enough for even those people who don't care one way or the other about Sonic, maybe even those who have never heard of it, to hear and join in the lampooning as well. This film's creators couldn't ignore all of that, so they fixed the design. But while casual observers likely only care about the design, Sonic fans dug deeper into the flaws with this movie, and while the second trailer made it look a good deal better than the first, and not just due to the fixed design, the more I see afterward the more I'm questioning how good a grasp this thing has on comedy. Maybe it'll do action better, but we haven't seen too much of that in the trailers. Finally, though we've now seen more of Sonic's homeworld than I expected based on this film's premise and that first trailer, it's still not enough for my liking. For many people's liking. This film doesn't reflect Sonic games much, plotwise. It omits characters that exist in the games, adds in characters that don't, throws out Robotnik's motives from the games and gives Sonic EMP powers out of nowhere just so they can write in a new conflict and give Robotnik new motives. Given that disparity, I don't see why any fans are obliged to support this. As a publicity tool for the series, it comes up short due to being potentially misrepresentative, and as a springboard for a more fanservice-heavy sequel, it feels manipulative and questionable. I do not need a good Sonic movie. I do not need a bad Sonic movie. I am not entitled to a Sonic movie of any sort. That movie, in turn, is not entitled to my money. I may see it, but I am not expecting it to be much better than okay; conversely I don't think it will destroy the series if it bombs.

People have been talking about the Sonic movie since the teaser poster. The second trailer was trending on the launch day of Disney+. Plus, even after the redesign, the movie still has a modest budget of $95 million, whereas Dolittle had $175 million. I think we'll be fine.

I think the redesign really hurt it. They had to put all the marketing on hold till not only they finish the redesign but now had to re do all the posters and promos. Just now they released tv spots and clips but I think everyone forgot about it.

Something I've been noticing for a while now is that people seem to be viewing the outside world as if they're in a bubble (The internet). They have all this hype and excitement about things going on outside their little bubble, but they never leave the bubble. The majority of people are most likely going to wait until they can watch the movie from the comfort of the inside of their bubble.

The ratings should be in between 80-90%

I mean it's not surprising, the trailers don't look good. The redesign wasn't really the main problem. The problem is the story and feel of the movie.

Last time I have been to a theater was Jurassic Park and Twister. Sonics and Ghostbusters Afterlife is bringing me to the theaters this year.
