Күн бұрынI previously reviewed the Sony a7S ii mirrorless camera, which is similar in a lot of ways to the a7Rii, but after using both and breaking down the differences between the two, I think the a7R ii is the superior option.
It is the best all-around camera for both photo and video on the market within it’s price range right now.
In this video review I share what I like most about shooting on Sony mirrorless cameras and breakdown some of the pro features that are included (like zebras, focus peaking, etc.) that should be in similarly priced cameras from Canon.
I also address some of the main complaints about battery life, button options, and confusing menus as well as how to overcome or deal with them.

There is something that most reviewers never mention when generally comparing high-end mirrorless cameras with high-end DSLRs, and it's the average maintenance costs. When you start to have quite some camera bodies around this is definitely something to consider. Since I switched to Sony A7 cameras (2 A7II, A7RII), I never had to worry about that anymore, and the only things that need to be done I can do myself (cleaning the sensors and the bodies and lenses).

you might want to consider the wireless sony mic systems that work seamlessly with this model. Model URX-PO3, and another system by Sony that allows for two wireless mics simultaneously!

Absolutely, with native Sony Lenses OR the metabones + speed booster adapter. Although I'd stick with native sony lenses.

it is indeed. I did a wedding with native and Sony A mount Tamron 70-200 and it was great. With metabones IV with Canon EF 70-200 2.8 is ii is even better but when possible, native will be the best option.

Hi Caleb!! I’m a hybrid shooter and I like to do all kinds of filming and shooting and currently I’m at a stand still on going with the A7sii or the A7rii. The A7r has such great photo quality and that’s what I really want but I also want good low light capability for filming. Do you think that the A7rii would be good enough for some decently low lit areas? If not could you recommend another great hybrid with good low light capabilities. Thanks!!

Currently using the canon 70d with my Sigma (canon) 30mm 1.4 - I like it but I'm looking at switching to either a panasonic GH4 or a sony camera. But I'm not sure If it's worth it (I've got the cash free) - would love your thoughts Caleb? Thanks man :)

Switch only if you're unable to do something with your current setup that you need to be able to do. Why do you want to switch? What is "broken" with your current camera set-up?

+JuanDa Arias Fernández You need an audio input device that takes and can power XLR like the one showed in this video. XLR-K2M or XLR-K1M. Links in description.

right now i do photo and video, i use the gh4 for video and nikon d750 for photos. Im thinking about selling both for the a7rii but dont know what to do about lenses. Doesn't this camera crop in 2x in 4k video? If so what lenses do you think would be best for someone trying to replace the 24-70, 70-200 and an 85mm?

You can shoot in 4K in both full-frame & in APS-C cropped mode on the a7r ii, which is awesome. Sony has G-Masters of all three of those lenses you mentioned that are E-Mount. I'd pick all those up. Those are the best lenses out there for Sony Mirrorless right now.

Caleb Wojcik good to know! so why are people saying to shoot in apsc mode? I want the shallow depth of field and normal focal lengths. and dang those are expensive lensies, 3-4x as much as the panny versions and twice as expensive as the nikon versions.

+PeglegMedia APS-C mode gives you 2x less noise and rolling shutter than shooting full frame on the RII, anddddd it's better video quality than the SII but not quiteeee as good as the 6K to 4K A6300

Sully Cortez yea the a6300 looks awesome all around but i need a full frame for photography and want that extra shallow depth of field

You can still get extremely shallow DOF with the a6300 and shoot at f1.4. You don't "need" full frame for photography in my opinion. Whats about the A6500 in comparison to the A7RII ? Iam thinking about getting one of these, but iam a little bit scared... Cause A7RII Pictures are huge and i dont got that money for much Harddrives, and iam afraid that the lowlight performance on video is bad :( but on the other hand A6500's pictures are not that crsip... hard decission... can someone help me? :D

I have an a7r which I love and use only manual lenses. Apart from 4k - slow motion on 1080p - stabilization are there any real increments in sensor and optical quality

The sensor is the biggest upgrade. Getting 4K in full frame & APS-C mode is great. The new autofocus features are great for photography especially. Optical quality really depends on the lenses you use.

Thanks for your quick reply. I know that the sensor upgrade gives the additional 4k increment but how does it work otherwise - does the BSI sensor make a difference. I use mainly vintage legacy glass so autofocus is of no interest at this point. I also do not want to upgrade to 4k as a lot of my visual kinetic composition work is software intensive and would not work on 4k. So 4k would be mainly to crop the material. Lenses would remain the same. Most of the vintage lenses that I use work very well with the a7r. To be honest I find that some of the new lenses that I've used don't give me the same textures - they are optimized for a different kind of image. I feel that the visual potential lies also in painting with light - not just pixel peeping. Also how does lens stabilization work with manual lenses with adapters that have no electronic interface.

I believe the image stabilization only works when you have a compatible lens on the camera, so older/vintage lenses won't enable you to turn on IBIS.

That's not true! All lenses are stabilized as the IBIS is build inside the sensor. If a old lens doesn't have electronic communication with the camera, you can set the focal length manually in the camera.

I also have the a7R ii and if I want to choose the records settings it only shows me 50p 50M, 25p 50m and 100p 50M. Do you know how I can fix that? In 4K I only have 25p 100M and 60M

I'm on the NTSC settings and it sounds like you have yours set to PAL.

Hi! Does your review of this camera still stand today? Also, I've been looking at cameras for shooting interviews and monologues. I'm aware of Sony mirrorless cameras having overheating issues. Is that the same with the a7s and a7r?

+Fit By Kevin le Yeah, same thoughts at this point. The a9 is a better photo camera, but a7R ii is still great. Latest firmware limits any overheating problems.

Shoot in crop mode and you will have better image quality, low light and no moire

in crop mode, the camera has a full pixel readout which translates in better image quality, more details, no aliasing and moire and better low light performance. The only con is more rolling shutter. In full frame mode the sensor has line skipping. Actually I don't know the reason why the low light is better in crop mode, one would think that FF is better in low light, but it might by related to the fact that in crop mode the camera reads a 5K image and downscale it to 4K. I'm not sure if this is happening in FF also, but if it's not then you have more pixel area in crop mode than in FF and that would explain the better low light. But judging by how better the low light is in crop mode (it's not only 1/5 th better), there must be some other reason for that.

shit. I thought this is gonna be diffirent review, at least with comparison of 120fsp 720p at r2 vs 120fps 1080 at s2. Difference in timelapse shooting, ability to crop, eye focus r2 vs s2 and some other stuff since you got both cameras?
