Part two of Soss Hinges...I'll show you a simple version of a Soss hinge template that you can easily make to create the stepped mortise necassary to house a Soss hinge...perfectly! You'll see the finished project, some simple ways to conceal...whatever, and tips & tricks along the way!

Soss hinges are pretty nice if installed properly and your jigs will certainly help with that. The thing I think I like best about your videos is the unique ways you find to build in hidden storage to a number of your projects. Hats off to you.

Everything you demo speaks of years of experience. I use a little hammer too-call it my fine adjustment tool. Please a video on knife hinge install.

Excellent. I have a cabinet shop and do a lot of furniture for customers. Had the SOSS 204 template but didn’t like it. Made a copy of your small unit and used it for tall doors on an arched top glass door cabinet. Thanks, Gary #glsystems

Enjoyed both parts 1 and 2 Ramon! Picked up some good tips/tricks. I especially like the tape trick. I make lots of jigs as well, but I have a problem finding places to store the dang things. Any good tips on jig storage other than get a bigger shop?

Very nice! Question: the 204 is 23/32 thick, how thick is the cabinet door?3/4? Almost impossible not to go through the door with the proper mortice!

It’s pretty easy to get the exact depth with a plunge router. Sample the cut on some material. I probably cut the screws to a length to fit the door thickness. With tight fitting hinges and four of em…they support well, even a heavy door with a mirror. Thanks a lot

I am making a door to cover a wall safe. Seen lots a video's on these Soss hinges. My problem is understanding how these hinges work. When using the hinges, if not located correctly, you will get interference to the framing when opening the door , another words, the hinged side of the door will hit the framing. From my understanding how these hinges work (from your video's) is because of the off centered mounting position, which changes the pivot point. Thus, does away with the interference. I ordered my hinges but haven't received them yet. So I don't know if I am correct or not. Retired machinist, made MANY bellcranks for aircraft over the years. Pivot point is critical with these. This is why I'm thinking this. Is this correct? or am I thinking wrong? Thank you for sharing this video!! Good information.

Yes, you’re correct…pivot point is everything with Soss hinges! I always make a sample, but the offsets (hinge set back) stated with the instructions is good and will give you a bit of slack. I’ve often used different offsets. In other words, the door may have a different offset than the cabinet or box. I love Soss hinges and use them quite often. I’m compiling content for another KZfaq video that will show a good number of projects that I’ve used em on. And I can show some variables that will help, like chamfering corners to gain clearance, etc. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

@@ramonartful *UPDATE:* Yes , very much this help..... Oh, BTW, I also love staining my projects. The gun cabinet you made was Gorgeous!! Thank you for the quick reply too. ............................................................ *Update:* I got my hinges delivered this morning. These hinges are a *Game Changer!!* Years ago I actually tried to make a hinge that does exactly what these do, but never had any success with it. For the DIY'er out there, the engineering and design is TOP NOTCH!! The way they work is, the pivot point rotates outward has it opens. which removes the "interference" of the door hit the framing on the hinged side. I didn't know these hinges extincted until 2 week ago. I did purchase the wooden guide. Not really impressed with it. I will be making one out of aluminum this weekend, as I'm sure the guide will "wear" fairly quickly with use. I'll be in the shop today!!
