Marisoul Hernandez es la cantante principal del grupo ganador de un Grammy, "La Santa Cecilia". Nacer en el corazón de Los Ángeles y criarse en el Eastside tiene una profunda influencia en su música y conexión con su comunidad. Marisoul Hernandez is the lead singer of the grammy-award winning group, "La Santa Cecilia." Being born in the heart of Los Angeles and growing up in the Eastside has a deep influence on her music and connection to her community. During the interview, she shares her thoughts on the country's conservative sentiments towards working class immigrants and how having a daughter has heightened her awareness of the dangerous realities that women are too-often subjected to in today's world.
Sounds of California: Boyle Heights (2020-2021) is a project led by the Alliance for California Traditional Arts (ACTA) in collaboration with the Community Power Collective and local residents to record, compose, present, and archive the local soundscape, focusing on themes of anti-displacement and belonging. The statewide Sounds of California initiative works in partnership with the leading Latino public radio network, Radio Bilingüe, and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.
