Mayra Simons es una líder comunitaria y organizadora que vive en Boyle Heights. Originaria de Sinaloa, México, Simons se dedica a los esfuerzos de empoderar a las familias migrantes de habla hispana en su vecindario con información y recursos relacionados con el cuidado de la salud y la vivienda. Sounds of California: Boyle Heights (2020-2021) is a project led by the Alliance for California Traditional Arts (ACTA) in collaboration with the Community Power Collective and local residents to record, compose, present, and archive the local soundscape, focusing on themes of anti-displacement and belonging. The statewide Sounds of California initiative works in partnership with the leading Latino public radio network, Radio Bilingüe, and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage.
