In a previous video we diagnosed a failed ABS Pump motor on this '16 GMC. The part showed up and we got it on there but now it is time to bleed it out, get it programmed and ship it down the road.

Thanks for part 2. As a former resident of WNY, I do not miss the snow, ice, and salt! I rescued a 1989 Suburban from a wrecking yard here in North Louisiana and I can still read the chalk markings on the frame! A little “panther piss” on the nuts and bolts and they spin right off. You are the Master, and I have learned so much from you. Here is an idea, write a book of handy hints for DIY folks!

RIP these norther cars. My Jeep GC had no rust at 15 years. My Sebring was a rust box at 3 and I'm in Australia. For us the southern cars are our rust belt. Within 3 or 4 years they know they are loosing horsepower and start shedding weight. We don't salt roads here. They use an environmental friendly powder. Not as effective so chaining up or cleats on the tires is required.

As a life long wny resident I'm jealous. My 2016 F150 that was ziebarted when we bought it is starting to decay, as is my 2015 ram 3500. The Ram was pretty cherry even as a hot-shot truck based in Tulsa OK until thistle in 2019 when I bought it and dragged it to the rust belt.

Having experienced a GMT800 Chevy that spent a lot of time upstate, never again. Somehow its frame was mostly solid but every exposed surface was a crusty mess. After a couple of years I got tired of dealing with the rot and started looking south. Ended up getting a ZJ that lived in GA and southeast VA most of its life, and the difference was tremendous.

I live in the SUPER RUST belt, and I have been using "Corrosion Free" under coating for years! It's a biodegradable, non-toxic oil based undercoating that you have them apply once a year!! My 8 year old 4runner has zero rust!! Our largest city puts close to two million dollars PER DAY worth of salt on the roads during winter! We always joke that local rivers and streams will support saltwater fish, it's that bad!! Corrosion Free costs about one hundred dollars a year, cheap insurance if you ask me!! I would have it applied yearly, even if I didn't live in the rust belt because it makes everything that much easier to work on!! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

At least in PA where we do have inspections, ABS is not something that is checked. Your vehicle can also pass with the air bag light on. All they care about is rust, ball joints/tie rod ends, brakes, lights and tires, more or less. I've only ever lived in counties that have emissions testing, so your check engine light must also be off and emission readiness monitors need to be set. They do allow one monitor to be not set, but the light must be off.

In rust belt Ontario (which is to say all of Ontario) I use anti-seize and loosen and tighten the bleed screws every spring and fall when I swap the summer/winter tires. I also clean and grease the slide pins as well as the calliper hardware. With that routine I can avoid dragging brakes and stuck bleeders over the long term. AS always thanks for helping me become a better DYI mechanic.

A few things, first, the timing is impeccable. I just did a new abs pump and module on an 03 Olds Aurora. Second, shout out for the Detroit Axle sticker on your box. At my last job we bought frequently from them. And lastly, you mentioned every day on the 40's in February. We in Detroit had a 74° day a few days ago. Of course in true Michigan fashion, it dipped into the 20's the next day. Nice break from the cold though. And most importantly, thanks for the lessons.👍👍

I like the way you showed the programming section. It's a little frustrating we can't do that at home without the correct hardware, but I suppose once we get to that point we'd be able to find a pro who can do it for us. It didn't occur to me that with a bad motor, you're hooped if you can't get air bled from the ABS module itself. It is yet another reason to leave bleeder screws alone unless you need to go there.

Hi Eric. Really enjoy your insightful videos. I particularly enjoy the electrical troubleshooting you do. I noticed a few times that when you find a blown fuse, you discard the fuse, usually without examining the fuse or commenting. Fuses tell you a story. If the fuse is just opened it probably says that the current went higher than the fuse rating, so the fuse just opened. But if the fuse is all black and there are pieces of fuse metal imbedded in the plastic, that tells you dead short. Current went to infinity. POW!! So it’s just a little bit of a clue to help figure out what happened. Thanks for the great advice and info. I’m a fan!

I put stainless speed bleeders on my mother in-laws car and was able to get them loose 3 years later when the pads had rust jacked. I live in the south so don't deal with rust much other than this one car I work on for vacation. I dont like Doorman but they make a kit for when you strip it. You tap and intall the insert then the bleeder that comes with it.

Eric, Here in the rust belt of Iowa I have resorted to using the liquid teflon around the threads for the bleeders. Then I put a vacuum cap on the bleeder. If I can get a 3/8 piece of hose to hold onto the vacuum cap I fill the hose full of grease and push that over the vacuum cap, Finally I spray the whole backside of the caliper with fluid film. Gets me about 6-8 yrs out of a caliper here. Usually I have piston failure before the bleeders freeze up if I do all of this. Try it on one of your personal vehicles, It works pretty good here. Your mileage may vary though.
