Today we spend the day in the garden harvesting peas, calendula, chamomile. We then move into the kitchen to preserve the harvest. We learn how to blanch peas and the importance of that before you freeze them. The calendula and chamomile are then dehydrated for future tea to be enjoyed on a winter night.

This may never be seen, but at least it was said: Becky, I have been a silent watcher for months, maybe a year now. I am a couple years older than you and remember when I was in my twenties, having similar aspirations, but then life happened. People laugh at the thought of me watching someone do all the things they don’t even know I aspired to do, living in a converted pool house apartment without even a stove/oven. After really hard days at work, I come home and think to myself, I hope Becky has uploaded something today, and if not I go back and watch older videos, hence why I’m commenting on this older post. Your sweet, calm, and endearing nature, in all aspects of your life, help me decompress and relax. That was a very long-winded thank you for all of your efforts, successes and “failures”. Failures are simply learning experiences to help guide you to further success. You have taught me that. So again, thank you friend.

I love your gentle and bubbly nature and your lifestyle is truly beautiful and inspiring. I live in the Caribbean and always wanted to grow produce in raised beds but never really pressed the idea as I don't even know where to start - but you are inspiring me to truly figure it out. Furthermore I am a chef at my own restaurant and love to see people cook with confidence like you - You are so intuitive and use proper technique and i applaud people who encourage others to use recipes as a template rather than an exact scientific recipe. I truly am so grateful that I found you. Continue with your passions. Your family and husband and friends are blessed to have you! (As are your viewers!) I loved your story about "squirrel" which is a very familiar topic in my daughter's family. She has 3 boys (12, 17 and 21) and all three have attention issues. A couple of years ago my oldest grandson and my daughter were talking about being distracted and the word "squirrel" and literally at the same time, my grandson noticed a squirrel outside and yelled "squirrel" and then went back to talking with his mom. We were all killing ourselves laughing and he didn't even know why we were!!! I bought him a little ceramic squirrel to sit on his desk. So yes, squirrel is a sign of affection and if this is what you are called - well good for you!! Love your videos.

I’m sure my comment is a repeat - I’m 3 days behind. I wanted to tell you to harvest Chamomile you just slide the blossom between your fingers gentle with thumb on top and pop them off🤗 way less stems. Best done early morning and make sure all the green is gone from yellow center and not turning brown. The only face soap I use is my homemade chamomile, calendula, lemon zest and lemon essential oil. I use fresh and/or dry chamomile - Also I soak fresh or dry in very warm oil either melted tallow or lard or avocado etc - whatever I decide to put in my soap. It’s the Only face soap that doesn’t dry out or break me out🤗 This was a Super Fun all around video!!!💖🤗👍🏼

I have piles of boxes on my porch I walk past on my way put t o the chickens and gardens every day.. some of my boxes have been there a while.. on a homestead there are always things needing to be done and things that should be done, and I try to prioritize the things that are more time sensitive like planting or harvesting or caring for all the animals.. boxes can wait!! I am so glad I found you!! And I interrupt myself all the time lol as I am talking to myself in the gardens, cause sometimes you just need an expert opinion!!! Just keep being and doing you!! Lol, my family’s communication is exactly the same. We are loud, we talk over each other and interrupt each other and we are always trying to get our two cents in. I never noticed it as being different until my husband brought it to my attention. He had a similar thought that we were being rude. We never considered that but I can see it now how it can be offensive at times. I have worked on it because I realized I wanted to listen more and comprehend what was being said. I realized I was always waiting for my turn to have a say and join in. It’s kind of fun when I get around my family as we can chat for hours and hours and we get so boisterous and animated. It’s quite a lot of fun when we all get together. I like Becky’s take on it as another communication style. Love it! I feel a little better that it’s not just my family that communicates this way. ☺️It’s nice to be aware of other’s ways of communication as well and making allowances for them as well. It’s quite eye opening!

Shelling peas are something it's great to have a yard swing for (hers was under the pecan tree and made of cast iron) and whenever someone comes over, you get a few buckets of peas and some shelling pans, hand your friends a glass of sweet tea or a cocktail and sit and swing and shell peas while chatting. My best memories 💕

Hey there! This morning I have been putzing about! Got some little yellow tomatoes I grew stacked on the dehydrator (experimenting with that appliance has been great!) Which reminds me, I saw a comment in an older video someone said they just aren't into canning... Overly sugary, vinegary, gloppy messes! The results are......underwhelming. I so agree!! However I thoroughly admire those who excell at that art, especially pressure canning meats. I like a small stash on hand of pickles, jams, and chutneys but the sheer volume and time is a lot when it's for just one (me). I'm also dehydrating store bought apples too that are past their prime but I hate to waste anything! (plus Icooked a small pot of apple pie filling on the stove, but that's for otameal). Oh yeah, and roasting a small batch of garlic that actually looked good and was on sale! I enjoy learning about and doing these things, but unfortunately my family thinks it's all a waste of energy and I need to get out more. Oh well. Can't please everyone. Just thought I would share and say hi. You are a very special young lady.

Okay, I echo Teresa Mac comment about the eyebrows. You are beautiful in your own way. We all are. That's why we all are different. Normal is mundane and icky, except for body temperature. Leave it be! Family is family is family is family. What matters is you were invited. Peace on your doorstep.

The Camamille collecting reminded me of a childhood memory. My best friend's mother would pay us $.25 for each cup of Camamille buds we collected. It seemed to take forever to get enough of those little buds!! Cheap labor! Now as an adult, I wonder how much of giving us that task was just a way to keep us busy and out of her hair!!!

This has to be my favorite video of yours. Going from garden talk to coffee to eye brows to garden to tripping on wire in the garden back to garden talk to hummingbirds. Your REAL and this channel is great! I find myself trying to use all the greens of the veggies from our CSA and think "What would Becky do with this?" Even the ends and leaves lol Great video!

I love this video…. So many things… your energy, excitement, your squirrel moments… the note to self - don’t leave things to trip over, sharing of your oops moments. It makes me smile and laugh as I recall all the times I’ve done these things too! When visiting my son and his family, who have the garden, chickens and goats, the grandkids will stop what they are doing to tell me…. The chicken just laid an egg. HA! Never gets old. I started watching with a dinner freezer video about 3 weeks ago and love your channel. Yes, I subscribed right away and have been making my way through your videos. I’ve already bought the Canning Book (I had a small Ball book I have used in the past) so I can make the rhubarb bbq sauce ( under the Victorian recipe something). I’ve made the breakfast oatmeal recipe and so has my friend. Yum. I ready to make the fire cider. I got my first Azure order, thank you, for the Ceylon cinnamon. I’m going to stop here, 🐿 moments happing, just wanted to say - Thanks for sharing!!!!

Lol, your story about your interrupting family and your partner's family not being that way is literally the same as mine I also didnt know that I interrupted others often until he told me and then when I saw my family again, it was unreal...I couldn't believe I never noticed that before. it's like everyone competing for a space to speak. although because of this, my family is pretty good at guessing how each other feels and we often finish each others sentences hahaha it is definitely a work in progress and a difficult habit to break!

Girl leave those eyebrows alone. I told my daughters don’t pluck or tweeze because as you age eyebrows get thinner. Thinner but the hairs you have will grow long lol. Brows frame our face. I don’t know if slips(chits) with no leaves will produce. I am glad you pulled them.👍

I was in HS and college in the 90s when the thin eyebrows were the thing. My grandmother told me that if I overplucked them they wouldn't grow back. So what did I do, I overplucked my eyebrows. It was cool for a while. I'm in my 40s now. They don't grow back the way they were. I don't have enough. I wish I listened to my grandmother. :-(

Love your videos! You are an inspiration! Just a fyi: English peas (peas in the shell) keep growing pea pods. The more you harvest, the more you get next time. Try a small section on a lattice and try to harvest weekly. If it starts getting to hot, then the harvest is over unless you have a lot of mulch to keep the roots cool! I let some dry on the vines for seeds for the following year. But mainly dehydrate and freeze them.

I feel you with the interrupting thing. I live in Germany where it's super rude to interrupt someone, but I have lived in France where it's actually a sign of engagement in the conversation to interrupt someone. Actually here you are even supposed to make a quick pause bevore answering. Even though I live here since 10 years I do still have trouble in not interrupting people and they do think that I am rude when actually I am just really engaged in the conversation 😅

Hi Becky! You probably already know this, but thought I’d put in my 2 cents. I just buy some organic sweet potatoes & maybe russets or whatever I’m in the mood for. I make my own sweet potato slips by the old way of toothpicks in the sweet potatoes in a glass of water. And my other potatoes I plant are the ones I forget to eat or just don’t want to eat at the time, so they start growing their…whatever you call them. My sweets I put right into the ground, but this year I grew my russets in containers. I think they’re ready to be unveiled! Potatoes are so fun, because like you said, it’s a treasure hunt!

Aww hope you didn’t get hurt when you fell. But lesson learned. But your not alone I have done silly things also. I am known for loosing my tools. I set them down to pull a weed or plant something, then I can’t find it. I guess I planted them. This year I lost my red sunglasses. My husband actually got the metal detector out, but the metal stakes didn’t help. Maybe one day I’ll find them. OMG I’m floored by you talking about spouting out your thought and interrupting others. I thought it was just me. Whew! Glad I’m not alone. Love ya. Fairly new to watching you. Congratulations on the baby. Your viewers are probably going to overload your P.O. Box with things for the baby. What room in your new house is going to be the babies room. People might ask the room color so they can send something that matches. Much love, Debbie from Myrtle beach, S.C.

Hi Becky, I know I’m commenting a couple months later but here in the south peas are like our pride and joy, the shelling kind that is. Only way you can make it in the shelling pea department without achy fingers is a nice pea sheller. It’s an investment but wow pressure canning peas or even blanching like you did are so delicious.

Also while shelling peas, any friends with kids, you set them in a bare patch of dirt with old pie pans and spoons and have them "bake" mud pies and take scraps to the animals. They'll be happy as pigs in slop😂🥰
