Tracy, thank you for sharing how you sow hydrangeas from seed. I appreciate that you showed us what to look for once the blooms had dried. Last year, I opened several of the little seed pods, but I didn't know what I was looking for. The ones I opened just appeared to have fine dust inside, and I was looking for hard little seeds. Did you leave them outside over winter or were they protected? I will try to germinate some again this year. Blessings to you and your family! ~Margie🤗🌱💐

Hi Margie, I kept the last year’s seeds outside in my garden shed….so the conditions mimic nature. Last years seeds germinated from seeds that I stored in my basement. So I would say either way - the seeds do okay as long as they are kept dry so they don’t get spoiled. But don’t forget to sow them thick as not all seeds are viable. I still need to do some more studying as I still don’t know how to tell viable seeds from non viable seeds. Happy seed sowing Margie!

Thank you for the hydrangea seed sowing tips. I planted daffodils for the first time this year. So cheery and beautiful in late winter and spring. Why didn't I plant them sooner!

Happy spring again Tracy! I started some lobelia seeds this year because of your videos. I start most of my seeds with the wet paper towel + ziplock bag method, they sprouted in a few days and I've put them in the seed starting tray. It's been an unseasonably warm end of April for us so the tray has already stayed outside overnight. Hope they will succeed and look as great as yours do! Would love to see how the seed hydrangea do, and if they turn out looking different from the parent varieties. 😃

Sounds like you got them off to a great start. My seeds have not germinated yet. We have nice sunny conditions this week so hopefully they will sprout soon. 💚💚💚

Sow extra seeds to make sure you’re guaranteed to get some viable seeds. All the best!

Cool. What kind of hydragea produced those seeds? Do you expect those to grow true to type or could they have been cross pollinated?

They are panicle types. The hydrangeas plant from seeds will be different for their parents. I have so many varieties in the garden so it will be interesting to see how they will look.
