Hi Everyone,
Welcome to the seventh episode of this semi-hardcore survival series, in this episode I managed to get the drop pod that was spawned at the start of the game and turn it into some sort of planetary drop pod that will allow me to grab some resources from the planet Oz and return to the asteroid!

For the artillery gun, have it target power systems so it stops shooting when the drone loses power. Otherwise, it shoots all functional blocks. That would help control the ammo usage.

I go with weapons for much the same reason but once the enemy drone is out of weapons (which are conveniently external), it's no longer a threat.

@@mdmaniac301I guess the question is when is which better. My thoughts are you can core the power out of a smaller quicker then you can hit all weapons on a bigger ship. So likely size dependant. Then again some modular ai ships are designed to ram once they lose guns.

I am gonna make a reccomedation. When you make a request to build with the build planner, pull all available parts first. That way, you end up using parts on hand first. It doesn't hurt to do it the way you are doing it normally, except when you are short of space or resources. Which, you have been the entire time.

Yeah I try to remember to do that most of the time, but sometimes I forget 😅 I did edit out alot of that stuff in this episode as well because I felt it was boring for people to watch, but some people like to see that stuff so it's always a bit of a balancing act with what I show in the episode and what I should skip because it would be boring 🤔

Parachutes are a good idea, even if it means a bit more grind to get the resources. Those drones are relentless

I'm sure someone already pointed this out a long time ago. but I'm yelling at my monitor that you've got a 3/4 full hydrogen tank on that rig you dragged home that you could tap for the pod. and it's got a mostly full battery you could drain for some emergency power too. good times.

It would be nice if you could set up a second playlist with the "uncut" videos which show all the boring stuff like travel and mundane building. For us geeks :) Thanks. Loving the series. Been binge watching 2-7 (and on). Appreciate the work.

I must admit I usually don't record all of that stuff, I kind of hit record when I have something interesting going on or I want to talk haha. The video files get reeeeeaaaaaallllly big if you just record everything unfortunately 😔. Thanks heaps for tuning in mate, I appreciate it 😉👌

I never even start my first asteroid base until i find uranium and ice in large supply. running out of power makes everything more difficult x.x

Yeah I have done that in the past, but this has been a challenge for sure, which has actually made me enjoy the game a bit more as it was getting a bit stale for me 😎👌

concept for decoy tower... build a small platform 3x3 and as tall as you want it... conveyor through the center. place advance rotor on small cargo at end of conveyor. build a spinning arm or platform with decoys at least ten blocks from the rotor. mount gun instalment over the rotor so it get ammo fed through the rotor... set the arm/platform to spin... enemies will aim for the decoys but never hit them while your turret in the center will kill them...

Assault cannon is more for the large grid ships, for small grid killers you should use the gat and auto cannons. Much better use of resources.

Just started the game. Learning a lot from your series plus it's very entertaining. My mars base seems very chilled compared to your hectic running battle with drones and resources

Good landing under pressure... 20 secs isn't a lot of time if missing deadline means an unpowered ship resting on asteroid above a gravity well.. Haha.. Good save.

what you have is GOCD - Gamers Organization Compulsive Disorder. i'm the same way when i build in space engineers i also dont have OCD but when i play games im very much GOCD. also those drones are small grid with the Warfare DLC not sure if its the first or the 2nd one but you can set your arty turret to only target large grid which will save you on ammo.

set weapons to target power or offense to knock them out or at least de-fang them. you can then collect them to recover any resources and materials they have and recycle them. also = take out the source of Drone Spawns and recycle it. move the ship project next to your base so it's got protection via the Base defenses. remove the ammunition from the ship turrets and put it into the base. same applies to all armed wrecks you recover. why make ammo when wrecks have ammo you can steal

I've binged all 7 episodes of your Space Survival and I must say, seeing you struggle is quite entertaining. *Subscribed* I don't think there's been one episode where you didn't say "Ow man, my planning is this series is just terrible". Maybe create a small (large grid) ship with long range turrets (target weapons) and try to capture the drone ship? Offence is a good defence after all... You could also build a decoy towers with a welder and optionally a decoy block projector and a small cargo container.

From the wiki: Decoys do not require power to operate, which means you can also drop them (for example by releasing a Merge Block) to watch the enemy’s reaction and identify where their turrets are located.

Yeah I'm really unsure as to how I'm gonna build this ship out, by hand, with a mod, with a welding wall, section by section or what. I guess that is the awesome part about this game, so many ways to do things you always find yourself doing something new 😎👍

@@TheGarageGamer86 that building mod you used for repairs on your Retem playthrough would be Kool to watch in a time lapse, we've seen welding wall time lapses a lot but watching an invisible hand weld it would be kool

You don't need a mod to determine how many components /ingots you need for a projected grid if you use build planner. You can shut off your assembler temporarily then queue up all the blocks in the assembler by going down the list of unbuilt blocks on the projector and it will tell you exactly how many of each type of ingot you need to complete the build. I do it all the time for my larger builds to make sure i have everything i need to build before i even weld up my first block.

Thanks for the advice mate! This is exactly what I did!! I only qued up the larger components though and then just built a few thousand of every component after that to make sure I have enough resources 😁👌

Your hydrogen engine was filled with hydrogen before you ground it down. That could have charged some of your batteries before you did that. Also, I think one of your rotors is shot up.

How did you get the piece of the ship to snap into the build planner?

When you have the welder equiped, middle mouse button click on an incomplete block, and it will add the parts to the build planner. Or you can select a block, walk up to a cargo container and middle mouse button click, then it will withdraw the parts for it into your characters inventory.

Is there a reason that you're building everything in large grid? It just seems like it would be a lot less resource intensive if you just made a small grid mining ship to gather resources instead of upgrading the starting ship.

Yeah it certainly would be more resource cost effective, but the complexity of small grid ships is way higher due to the larger amount of blocks, even though they use less resources it takes way more time to build them and with all the drones attacking me constantly I don't feel like I have the time to build something like that lol. 😎👌

are the guns more accurate if their range is reduced? Have their range just out of the drone range so the cannon takes it out before reaching their firing range. this might reduce the amount of outgoing fire.

Yeah because the target is bigger, I can't remember if it was this episode or the next one but I reduced the range on the arty turret to 800m to conserve ammo and make it more accurate at the same time, not sure how well it worked though 🤔

Yeah they burn through fuel waaaaaay too fast though, I have never really found them to be all that useful to be honest 😔

Not enough power? you are surrounded with stone, batteries can be made from the resources obtained from stone - build 4, put 1 on recharge and 3 on discharge, when empty, grind down the 3, make new power cells and repeat, no solar needed, just try not to run out of stone, 😂😂😂😂😂😂 You can charge your suit by sitting in a passenger seat.

I was going to suggest that too, first thing that goes down on any solar base after the first panel is a passenger seat to charge in. :)
