" nope. article 1 section 3, iirc, says the president is NOT immune from criminal prosecution. to be accurate, it says if the president commits a a crime, they can be tried for it after they are impeached. this is a no brainer, and the trump lawyers don't have a leg to stand on. they are just doing it to delay. the only reason to even hear the case is to smack trump down and put a precedent on the board for the next idiot.

The most frustrating part about this is that Trump’s claim of absolute immunity is LUDICROUS. It’s frivolous. If a president had absolute immunity, Biden could do whatever he damn well pleases. They are hoping that Biden is too much of a good person to actually make use of their claims that: The president could literally execute the opposing party and the worst they have to deal with is the dry cleaning bill. I mean. Surely even if it was Mahatma Gandhi that was president they'd make use of the carte blanche to commit any crime necessary to ensure the people that pushes for that insane freedom don't remain in power. The only time I've heard someone arrested without being charged with a specific crime was when that crazy dude tied a bunch of balloons to a lawn chair and flew up into the air for a while. The FAA knew he had to have broken some law with regards to flight but had no idea what specific law he had broken.

My favorite part was honestly just the citation. I'm sure there's some formality that makes it necessary, but it's still hilarious to see Seuss cited in a legal document. Last time I saw that was literally in a case where someone was being sued for ripping off The Cat in the Hat for their book about the OJ trial. Which was also an insane case, but also an important one because it set the precedent that parody doesn't always constitute fair use.

@@TheRawrnstuff He's one of the most popular authors of children's books to have ever lived and generations of kids grew up first having his books read to us then reading them ourselves as well as watching various animated specials based on those books with How the Grinch Stole Christmas being the most obvious annual tradition but others like Horton Hears a Who, The Lorax, and Dr. Seuss on the Loose also regularly running for years. Back in 2013 Ted Cruz stood on the floor of the senate and read Green Eggs and Ham as part of a filibuster to try to stop Obamacare. In a list of the 20 best-selling children's books of all time Dr. Seuss takes up a full quarter of the spots.

@@blupunk01 Yes, I'm just curious about what has prompted Dr. Seuss' works to be repeatedly a part of political discussions of late - especially when the topic isn't even related to Seuss or his works. I mean, I'm pretty sure it's not like his works have recently become public domain or anything like that. It feels weirdly disjointed: Seuss wrote his books around 70 years or so ago. Will politicians bring up, say, _Dragonball Z_ or _Sailor Moon_ or some other Saturday morning cartoon the same way in 2060? Or has Seuss been a recurring theme all this time and I've just never noticed?

He used to be able to get decent lawyers, but then he got a reputation for not following advice of council and being sued for non-payment of legal fees. Also, most firms don't want to deal with the PR nightmare that comes with taking him on as a client now. One of his only good lawyers had to leave his firm in order to take his case in Florida, because his firm was getting backlash from Trump's stink leaching onto their other clients. And even then, he only took the case because he got a $3 million retainer, up front. Ordinarily the best law firms in the country would be lining up to defend a current or former president, which is what happened with Bill Clinton's impeachment. Not so much for Donny...

@@pipster1891Sure, if the "rock" is someone who has brought about fairly progressive policies (even if the "hard place's" minions have tried and sometimes succeeded to take them away again), was the first administration in decades to do something for infrastructure, helped out diabetics and people with other conditions that put them in financial jeopardy, stabilised the economy that threatened to go in a tailspin (after his predecessor mismanaged a pandemic and threatened the supply chain with stupid tariffs), freed people who had been incarcerated for ridiculously high amounts of time for doing something that's legal today, mended strained international relationships, ... And if the "hard place" is someone who rightly would long be doing hard time if he wasn't shielded by an army of cult members and cynical sycophants.

I just found out about this site a couple of weeks ago through their algorithms. I've laughed at every one of them and now I have to check out his Closer Look every time I see it on here. I don't need to subscribe since it pops up here every day and sometime twice with an older one. I've never even watched any of those Late Nite shows but I do catch the monologues and excerpts posted on here. Instead of staying up and watching the whole show, I get the best sections on here that if that subject hasn't made the news yet, it will eventually. haha

Not even this court will uphold Trump’s ludicrous claim. Think about what it would mean if they did - the presidency would immensely be immune from any check whatsoever. They would be placing a dictator over themselves. Not gonna happen. Besides, Kavanaugh wrote a brief in the late 90’s demolishing this question, I’m sure in an attempt to prove Clinton wasn’t immune from prosecution. The media has been treating this as if it were a real issue that might go Trump’s way. It isn’t, and it won’t.
