It was an interesting moment being able to catch an Ontario Northland Railway(ONR) train around Port Colborne, Ontario.
A train that normally could only be seen somewhere between Moosenee and North Bay in Ontario.
However this train here was been use for a special event filming for a tv show "Handmaids Tale" and spotted by many railfans traveling south along various other railroads along the way.
This was one of our moments catching the ONR train in the Niagara Area.
Location: Elm Street near Port Colborne, Ontario
Harbour Spur Milepost 1.94
Date: July 19, 2022
Thanks for watching!

Those are some of the coolest-looking Canadian locomotives and coaches I've ever seen! Great footage!

Usually we chase trains, but this time it came to us. This train is not normally something we would be able to see without making a huge trip with special arrangements. Were talking like a 8-12 hours driving one way and possibly staying over night at a motel just to see them. I think the coaches are use for passenger service call "polar express" to run passengers from Cochrane to Moosenee. About 186 mile route. Anyways it was nice having a chance to see it. Not sure if we will see again. Unless they decide to use it for another special event. Thanks for the comment!

Wow, not entirely sure that I've ever seen a brighter shine on a train set before. What a lovely and striking catch.

I'm sure they took the time to clean and polished them before they let it go on tour on the other railroads. Also got to look good if your going to be in a movie or tv show.

Ive taken the train to Moosonee from Cochrane several times for work purposes. 5 hour ride. Interesting to do once for sure. Moosonee feels unlike anywhere else that is easily accessible in Ontario. There is tidal action there and I have twice seen seals in the river. Super strange seeing ONR and especially this specific consist designated for the route between Cochrane and Moosonee in Niagara lol. Great catch that will only happen once

I knew someone who was a teacher in Cochrane for a long time, now retire. Other then that I don't know much about what it's like to live in Northern Ontario, but I'm sure it's really interesting. I was not aware there were seal in the area, but that's amazing. I always thought those were just artic critters, but I suppose anything is possible. The other strangely related thing about ONR is there a has been alot sighting recently of ONR hoppers in the area as well. So maybe something in the railroad industry is brewing between the various operators around Ontario. Who knows forsure, but it's fun speculating.

I caught ONR on home rails all the way up in North bay recently. I can tell you they do not run passenger service to North bay anymore. It’s stuck way up far North. Awesome catch!

I have heard some talk about having it back. Not sure what the current status is. Maybe it will be just seasonal?

The government of Ontario is planning on bringing back passenger service along the majority of the ONR line where the "northlander" train ran 10 years ago or so. This time the terminus is supposed to be in Timmins and Cochrane depending on the day I believe? I could be wrong about that. Also North Bay is NOT WAYY up north lmao. Northern Ontario begins past North Bay imo

I think that the 2nd locomotive is an FP45 or something like that. It is too big to be an F40PH.

Your logic is completely backwards. The FP45’s are the large ones and the 2nd locomotive is a F40PH
