Old Tear Drop Bell Railroad Crossings

In our early days when we first started railfanning we didn't know how rare tear drop bells were gonna be.
We only ever seen 2 in operation specifically at Arthur Street and Duke Street, but it wouldn't be long before they would be remove sometime between July 18, 2017 and July 2018 is our best estimate.
This is a couple of video clips we had from chasing in our early days when and where tear drops bells railroad crossing were still being used in Guelph, Ontario.

AWESOME!! I can’t believe that you got some actual good footage of both Teardrops in Guelph! I thought both had never been recorded before. Sad that they are gone now as only 2 teardrops remain in service in Ontario. With the rest being in museums. I’ve also managed to obtain one!

I have a couple more clips, but these were the best clips showing the bell at least. The other ones I have are on the wrong side of the road. So you don't get to see them in that well in the video.

The teardrop on duke street was a generation one made between 1917 1926. it was the last one in Canada so sad to know it's gone but good knowing there is a video of it!

Thanks for sharing the knowledge. I did not know any of those things. Wish I had done a proper video of those crossings when they had teardrops. Unfortunately I didn't really know what they were until later and by the time I thought about it they were gone. 😪

These were the only 2 I knew of and they were in Guelph. Of Course there is a possibility of coming across another one day. In fact there was I railfan I met who found one in Quebec I believe this was the video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jpp6grOc0LjVo2w.html

@@Trains4Fun I will have to check but I think there may be one in Brampton at the level crossing when the old CP/OBRY line crosses the diamond with CN. There are a few old crossing bucks and lights that haven't been used in a few years as that line is no longer in use (as I'm sure you may know) - I'll get back to ya on that.

@@Trains4Fun if I don't make it out there any time soon I will ask one of my buddies to go and see. The last time I was around the diamond I was at the downtown Brampton Go Station. I know the signal lights are still in use, makes no sense and nothing runs on that line anymore and I saw some fairly nice cross bucks but it was during the day so I mean, ya wait until nighttime.
