After a few tries and needing a break from frustration, I figured out the trick. The guards all moved in a pattern that would eventually leave an opening to quickly zip web from shadow to shadow. These segments were divided into little safe areas for you to pay attention to the newer, slightly harder pattern and do it again. I managed to get through the stages pretty quickly and only getting hung up on the very, very last section because it had the shortest window of time and you really needed to thread the needle at the end. Felt like I'd get caught with a pixel of my toe out of the shadows.

you can tell that video games were mainly developed to be fun. Today, video games are mostly just a product to make money. All these achievements are now only there to make money and keep the player in the game. At that time people voluntarily stuck to the game because it was so much fun. Don't want to know how many times I've played through Vice City or how many hours I've spent there with chaos and cheats. I can tell you a lot more than with GTA5.

Treyarch (Then): Guess we're the Spider-Man company now! Treyarch (Now): Which Call of Duty line are still making? Black Ops right, no Vanguard, people like that one right? Even the cheat code topic made me sad... Such a bygone era is gaming, when that was commonplace.
@NN010

Damn shame what’s happened to them. They haven’t even had a full 3 year development cycle on their COD games since Black Ops 3 in 2015. BO4 had its campaign cut & replaced with a Battle Royale mode due to an over ambitious concept, Black Ops: Cold War had to be rushed out in 18 months & be a PS5 & Xbox Series S|X launch title & Vanguard Zombies feels like it had even less time than that (combined with having to adjust to a new engine as Vanguard was made with the Modern Warfare (2019) engine instead of what Treyarch have been using & evolving since World at War) with how barebones it is. Hopefully they’ll get at least 3 years to develop their next COD game (which given that Modern Warfare II (2022) is coming this year and the reports of Activision taking a year off next year, seems likely).

This game had a surprising level of care and effort put into it. It's not the greatest spider man game ever, but it had lots of fun extras. The fact you could replay the entire game as a Green Goblin, with his own unique voice, was a step they didn't need to take. Love it for that.

I remember getting an XBox original years ago, and wanting to find a game to play on it. I ordered this game on Amazon, (since Spider-Man 2 was too pricy then), and I had a real blast. Played it a bunch, and loved it. Dated, yeah sure, but it was of it’s time, and I loved playing it. It’s a fun game! Also, that Goblin gameplay was great, loved how they made it work. Kinda wish more games worked in stuff like that.

Calling something "dated" is a detracting and superficial way of pointing out the time period it came from. Imagine talking about a game from 2002, just to call it "dated" 20 years later. You're essentially saying that it's too indicative of its time to be good, which is just silly, especially considering that everything in your comment contradicts that statement.

I honestly wish Tobey Maguire channeled more of his performance in costume as Spider-Man in the video games, within his film portrayals. One thing I never really liked about Raimi Peter was that he wasn't as much of a quippy nuisance to his villains and lacked a lot of personality behind the mask in general, but here and in Spider-Man 2, he's basically exactly what I wanted, especially when he talks smack to Shocker

As someone who's completed the bomb mission on the hardest difficulty many times, I can confidently say that it's not random at all. It's hard as hell though, that's for sure. On the superhero difficulty it requires nigh perfect timing, as well as knowing well the enemy placements and the best path from one bomb to another. You also have to consistenly web certain robots before they shoot, because their damage is insane and they can obliterate you in a couple of seconds. Really hated this mission while I was still learning the ins and outs and struggling with it, but now it's my personal highlight of the game. On the hardest difficulty the mission is such an adrenaline rush that there is nothing quite like it in any other Spider-Man game, a really unique and intense skillcheck that could only exist in a Spidey game. Really liked the GBA version as well, although the second Kraven boss fight is a bitch.

In particular, how absolutely ballin' some of the movie tie-in game's music tracks are, like the Green Goblin's theme. The only thing that sucked about it is that it was really short to the point I beat it as Spider-Man and the Goblin while still having time to screw around with cheat codes, all within a three day weekend. Probably would've been even better with more development time, a bigger budget and more free reign to do a different story that existed within the Raimi universe. Would've been cool to see what they could come up with, like maybe Kingpin as a major villain or something.

I'm pretty sure this was the 1st videogame I sunk alot of my childhood into that wasnt my older brothers Super Mario World cart. All the unlockable costumes and cheats ruled. I was so glad that Ultimate Spiderman brought that spirit back with all the costumes and Venom mode, because that lack of extras really dragged the Spiderman 2 tie-in game down.

You forgot to mention 2 things: One, there was a tutorial and a some minigames where the narrator is Bruce Campbell, being his usual self of course. And one of the cheats made you into Mary Jane, which if you beat the game with, has her making out with herself on the bridge. This was reportedly removed in later copies of the game

Technically, this was Spider-Man 3. I mean it's techincally (mechanically?) a successor to Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro. I have a vague memory of I think the actual Spider-Man 3 game having a reference to Enter Electro as well I think.

More mechanically since this was more in line with the movie's story.

Got this game on ps2 as a kid and I got it again in my 30’s and it’s still a blast to play. I even have the tips and tricks video on the special features disc for the movie that I like to watch for nostalgia

This game was so much fun back in the day. It was a proper evolution from the previous PS Spider-Man games, which those I thoroughly enjoyed, before Spider-Man 2 completely changed the formula for future Spider-Man games. It holds up really even today and reminds me of a simpler time in gaming.....

I just made my own playthrough and review on my channel and I have to ask about the bomb mission because why did we have such different experiences with certain missions like that? I had no issues with it and basically treated it as a joke in my review whereas things like the stealth sections really gave me trouble. It's kind of funny we put out similar videos so close together on a game that's been out for 20 years (not that I'm accusing, the videos are vastly different in every way). Anyway, loved your video, have a great day

This game will always hold a special place in my heart, it just has so much going on that works. Sadly what doesnt work is turning around and half the combat. Turning is an animation on its own if you turn too far which has got me killed, and the fights with the foes who can break your combos or just grab you outright are a chore to deal with. Theres no real defense options so you gotta jump and pray

I had this game as a kid. First Spider-Man game I ever owned. Never actually beat it on my own though--me and my brother just used the level skip cheat to jump past levels that were too hard for us. But still, I have very fond memories of beating the Green Goblin in the last level as Shocker ("SHOCKER!").

That game made Spinneret a thing before the comics did. Yes, Mary Jane was a Spider-Person in the comics, but that was after this game...right?

I remember if you had the original release of this game (which I do have) you could type in a code that lets you be Mary Jane only she was clearly taller to match Spider-Man's height and at the end of the game in this mode Mary Jane makes out with herself. I assume Activision realized their mistake because upon the game's Greatest Hits release they altered it to where you couldn't be Mary Jane but just a random reporter lady and I think the cutscene just shows Spider-Man kissing MJ in that version.

I played this after playing Spider-Man 2 (both on Xbox) since I was a latecomer to the 6th generation, and while there was a lot I liked about it I found the mechanics and level-based design a lot less satisfying than the second one. It was still really fun, but once I unlocked everything I didn’t revisit it much until I found all the cheat codes.

Since they didnt have access to the movie, maybe they were like, “I would THINK Green Gobs would plant bombs in places and Spidey has to defuse em.” So they made that mission with that assumption?
