Spinning vs Staying Behind

Many bowlers who play a straight angle have finger above equator.
This increases the chance of turning wrist and spinning ball.
Spinning is a result of an extremely high tilt, which reduces ball reaction against oil patterns.
This is why spinning release plays better on the dry part of the lane.

It looks a lot like the no-step drill. But what I like about your explanation is the multiple camera angles and the attention to detail in the thumb position. Can't say I've seen many people bring that up in their no-step drill explanation. Very well done!

I've been trying to find a video that actually explains all of this where a novice can understand. Finally, here it is! Thank you so much for making this!

This is something I've been trying to get right for a long time. I think most bowlers battle with the "right way" and rely on coming around the ball to see some hook. Let's all get this done correctly! Ill get it soon. Thank you.

Jan, this video is perfect timing for me. I've been working really hard at increasing my revs using the yoyo release. I'm a 200+ avg bowler but I'm trying to get to the next level. Thanks for creating these videos. I know its an enormous amount of work, just know how much we appreciate your effort and your helping so many bowlers !

I always liked the knee on towel drill to stay behind and feel the flat spot in the release.

1:02 I never actually thought about keeping my thumb pointing forward or exiting in the same direction as the ball. I will focus on this at the next practice. Great little gems of advice on this channel. I can't believe I haven't subscribed until now.

Haha great to know. Without same direction, our thumb becomes the sticks in the wheel blocking the way. Thank you for your subscription by the way :)

Quick question... Wouldn't keeping the thumb pointing forward and exiting in the same direction as the ball, make the ball roll over-under?

So why do we hear coaches say release the ball such that your hand turns into a position like you are offering a handshake to someone?

Better, but her fingers need to get much lower on the ball at release. She will be rev-challenged until she gets those fingers under the equator.

And a stronger wrist position. It looks OK at release but it way beyond OK the rest of the swing. To create power it must be straight or stronger.

@@janproshopchannelI look forward to her progress. If she can get good at rolling it up the back and getting under the ball, that'll show that it doesn't matter how a person throws it, anyone can relearn how to do it better.

So you're saying the optimal thumb position should be between 11o clock to one oclock for right/left handers ?

@@janproshopchannel I've been trying for decades to gain more revs . I'm just now finding out that when you lean too far forward with your head down it causes a weak release and chicken winging it
