I had my spleen removed in 1987. I don't have to take any med. for it, although I am sensitive to dirty environments and colds. I try to eat healthier. That is the most important thing.

I've just completed 6 months of chemotherapy after having been diagnosed with SMZL. I have to wait for a PET scan and possible bone marrow biopsy before meeting with my consultant to let me know whether I'm in remission or not. Loved listening to your story and would love to be able to chat to you properly as feel so alone sometimes because ours is not one of the more common types of lymphoma :(

I had mine removed at 27. I don’t take any antibiotics daily. My daughter had hers out at age 5 and she took penicillin daily til 18. I live a normal life and rarely get sick.

Hello, we're sorry to hear your friend has had a splenectomy, however pleased to hear he is fine. Generally, people recover well following a spenectomy, however their immune system will not work as well as it used to, and they may be more prone to infection. Your friends medical team will be able to offer more individual advice, however if you would like to read our information about splenectomy, you can find this here lymphoma-action.org.uk/about-lymphoma-treatment-lymphoma/splenectomy-having-your-spleen-removed We send our best wishes to you and your friend.

My spleen was removed and I was good for about 10 years. That was the easiest surgery I have ever been through honestly.

@@ronaldkrikorian4712 Hi Ronald, I do not get vaccinations except the 3 every 10 years. (Decade flu, decade pneumonia and then tetanus) my doctor then said only those 3 and I have stuck to it. I eat whatever I want now. I am more aware of eating fiber but that is more.from my gallbladder being removed not my spleen.
