didnt hillenburg just not want nick to completely run spongebob into the ground (like what theyre doing) and to not make any purely cash grab prequels for his show? the musical seems to have a lot of love and respect put into it, and its far from a cashgrab bc musicals are actually pretty hard to get money out of due to how much has to be spent in order to even get it onstage, so it doesnt seem like something that would spit on hillenburg's memory.

I think it also prevented the dumpster fire that happened to Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. Having all of these artists write songs (some of whom had actual experience writing scores for musicals before), and then having a very skilled composer (Tom Kitt) mesh all of that together worked a lot better than leaving the task of the score writing to folks who had zero experience writing a score for a musical.

People complain that this is "Childish", but they don't see the bigger picture. For me this musical was so great in so many ways, not just the music and characters etc. It's great because of how it can impact the people watching it, reminding them of their childhood, happiness etc. It reminds us of the happiness that we tend to lose as we grow older. I'm just a 15 year old kid, i honestly don't know that much about adulthood, but all i know is that it's hard, and that sometimes they just need something to put a good smile on their faces, a good show of nostalga, like this broadway musical. That's why i think it's great, it's for everyone to enjoy. Edit: Thank you all for the likes aswell, i never had this many in a while. (^-^)
@AnEmu4044 жыл бұрын
Marzel Yeah! And while this might be great for kids, there’s a whole lotta serious topics it deals with! There’s a lot of jabs at science sceptics and people trying to make money out of global warming and the climate crisis, it deals with racism too. Bikini bottom is literally metaphor for what’s going on with the world right now, as well as the musical having a banging soundtrack. Every single song is an absolute bop, don’t @ me.
@AnEmu4044 жыл бұрын
: 3 I personally think it does have a purpose, if not just for entertainment, it raises awareness of climate change and the different ways people are responding to it. Even if it’s not explicitly said, I think the general message of the musical is incredibly relevant at the moment. Also, you can think the songs weren’t that creative but I did. There were some great song writers on their team, such as Brendon Urie, David Bowie and others. In my opinion *every* song is a bop. But, it’s subjective after all, so think of it what you will.
@AnEmu4044 жыл бұрын

I watched the version they broadcasted on American TV here on the internet recently and I also saw an earlier version here on KZfaq and I have to say that this thing is absolutely brilliant. The cast is very much what these characters would look like if they were human. (I mean, look at Ethan Slater. That's a 100% what Spongebob would look like as a human) They do their best to mimic the voices from TV which is a big help. The preformances are hilarious, which is not easy, especially with a cartoon as absurd as Spongebob. The sets are beautiful, the jokes are over the top (just like TV) and broadway went as far as to use Tom Kenny himself as the narrator, which is a nice easter egg for the fans. It's a 100% Spongebob in my opinion and I hope it keeps running for a long time.

Growing up, I never thought I would like musicals. Seeing the Spongebob musical on TV changed my mind. Everything was so well choreographed, the songs sound amazing, and it's easy to tell that the actors enjoy what they're doing. One thing I always look for in a live performance is how much the performers enjoy it, since, if the performers don't enjoy it, the magic of it is gone.
@clorbdorb12454 жыл бұрын
Absolutely this. I always illustrate this by talking about my experience with two high school shows I was a part of: The first, Guys and Dolls, is an absolute trainwreck of sexism that promotes outdated gender roles and aside from a few absolute bangers is a total snoozefest. But it was fun for the audience because we clearly had a blast being in it! Contrast that with Mamma Mia! which is arguably better with more consistently good songs, a tighter story, and less sexism (though it's pretty slut-shamey, ngl). Aside from our choreographers, every adult involved in creating our production was an absolute asshole and no one had fun. A lot of people described it as soulless and uncomfortable.

Okay, honestly, it's amazing. Like taking away everything that's silly about it, you've got to admit how progressive it also is. For example, with the main female characters - Sandy, Pearl, and Karen - they're all played by diverse women. Sandy and Pearl are both played by black women, and Karen's actress is Asian American. The news reporter - "Perch Perkins" - also wears heavy makeup throughout the show with glittering highlighter and a fabulous purple-esque hairdo. Despite this, he starts and absolutely rocks the most badass song in the show, No Control, with possibly the lowest voice in the show, absolutely crushing gender norms and the toxic "boys can't be pretty and wear makeup while still being awesome" mentality. Also some of the ideas put forth are brave to be put in a children's show, like the idea of Pearl feeling like she's fighting for her father over his greed, people finding someone to blame out of fear and blaming Sandy because she's "different" than them and "not from here", and the whole ongoing joke about the government not knowing what to do and blaming the media. Despite this, this show manages to make an amazing impact while still managing to make the whole audience smile and laugh, which is surprisingly hard to do. Kudos to the writers, cast, and crew for this. (also I didn't know this but apparently you can buy the Nickelodeon recording off of Amazon in HD instead of streaming it and help them out even more)
@ruzspruce99842 жыл бұрын
It's genius! The best part is how many people contributed to the songs, by writing one song each! Every style of the song is different, personalized by the songwriter, which gives it an extra twang when it comes to expression!
