I've been super confused about this and this video finally after a lot of research explains it beautifully.

Great summary but I want to reinforce the concept of 100 points of grip. Because the lateral cornering force and longitudinal braking force are in perpendicular angle, they don’t simply add/substract, but should be calculated by pythagoras theorem. Therefore the resulting sum of limit forces are kinda astonishingly large. Consider: 70% cornering + 70% braking = 98% grip 0.49 + 0.49 90% cornering + 40% braking = 97% grip 0.81 + 0.16 40% cornering + 90% braking = 97% grip 0.16 + 0.81 as long as we manage the inputs in controlled/progressive manner, trailbraking can generate surprisingly strong braking force and hold up big lean angle at the same time. Good stuff. I understand what you are saying and believe it to be true, but I think it might be difficult for many people to make those sorts of calculations in their head.

@@stumanrides Right I totally agree and respect all instructors keeping it simple.

Great video! I've written a book and online course to teach trail braking to the average street rider. Your video here reinforces my theories and techniques. Best wishes!

T16 was killing me as I was braking far too much in an effort to keep the bike closer to the curbing. Now I see I can carry far more speed and let the bike run wider to set up an earlier drive out of T17. This video makes it easier for me to visualize.

I just found your channel because of an R3 video you had, but this video is a GEM! I use to over use trailbraking all the time on my cbr600rr. Hopefully I'll see you at chuckwalla soon!

Great vid but watch the sound levels on the intro. You want the whole thing near the same level.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll be more careful with the levels next time.

How to back it in? Just for fun. Not in a race or track scenario. Peacocking for the ladies. Lol
