Exactly! The puck carrier stops skating before the top of the faceoff circle. Spurgeon takes 2 or 3 more steps. It seems really simple, like everyone should do that to easily catch the breakaway. But your body and mind will scream at you to stop accelerating towards the stationary goaltender or the stationary wall behind him. It's really hard to over-rule your own survival instinct at top speed.

@jonmendelson1104 Жыл бұрын
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that the Sharks lost (hoping for a Bedard in their future), but that Giroux breakaway should not have counted. Motte tripped Hertl in the takeaway with the refs looking right at it, then DeBrincat got off the ice and was replaced by both Giroux and Tkachuk, Tkachuk got off the ice pretty quickly but that very easily could've been called too many men in addition to a trip.
@Melanstone
@Melanstone Жыл бұрын
@@jonmendelson1104 Both of those points are most definitely true. That being said considering they missed a blatant high stick on stutzle and an obvious trip on debrincat earlier in the game they might have owed us that one. When you mentioned the Sabres the goal that popped into my mind was Skinner's breakaway goal against the Sharks but you got it right going with the Quinn shootout goal. Skinner's goal may have been a hat pick for him, but it was a dang it each for Dell and Cicek which moves it to Thursday! It might even be three dang its since it also meant they had to listen to "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" by Whitney Houston which is Skinner's goal song...

Really nice to see my Sabres here three times, and not on the receiving end of the Hat Picks. It's mildly infuriating to me that these Wings can beat teams like the Devils and the Dolts and the Capitals and the Islanders, but against a Buffalo team that, while definitely on the up and up, is still one of the bottom 10 teams in the league (and one in our division as well) we not only give away 4 points but do so by letting in 13 goals.

Ya missed the Kappy Hat Trick, but the ones you picked were mostly pretty awesome.

The best thing is Steve is totally right. The next similar goal McDavid scores like that against Washington is even better, dudes a freak.

The goal line save was great, but the Giroux goal really shouldn't have counted.

The Sabres making it three times makes me happy, if only we can get consistent

The most amazing thing about the Sabres this year is they are 24th in the league but FIRST in goals scored.

Was really hoping to see Kapanen's game-winning goal in the Vegas game or his hat trick against the Blues in this week's hat picks, he was a healthy scratch for a while and comes back and you can tell how much effort he put into improving his game

Still waiting for a "McDavid" segment on hat picks. We know it should be there, you know it should be there, the guy is a literal highlight factory. Get it done Steve!
