In the early 1970s, conservationist/mountaineer/filmmaker Art Twomey launched a campaign, along with concerned citizens on both sides of the Purcell Mountain Range in s.e. British Columbia that called upon the provincial government to protect the wildlife habitat in the southern core of the range. In 1973 Art appeared on a popular outdoor show produced by the Canadian Broadcast Corporation called Klahanie to raise awareness.
The NGO wildsight.ca was born out of the movement to create "The Purcell Wilderness Conservancy" and today Wildsight continues the work begun by Art and others all those years ago.
